An in vitro and in silico study of anti-dermatophytic activity of gossypol from fruits of Thespesia populnea(L.)*** Correa

Objective:To isolate,purify,and characterize gossypol from the fruits of Thespesia populnea(L)*** Correa,test its antidermatophytic activity,identify its targets on the dermatophyte,and confirm the binding of gossypol with the fungal target by molecular docking ***:Gossypol from Thespesia populnea was characterized by high performance liquid chromatography,liquid chromatographmass spectrometry,Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy,and nuclear magnetic *** anti-dermatophytic activity of gossypol was tested against four different dermatophytes,*** mentagrophytes,Trichophyton rubrum,Microsporum canis,and Microsporum *** mentagrophytes was selected for further *** inhibitory mode of action of gossypol on Trichophyton mentagrophytes was determined by analyzing the modulation of gene expression in various pathways of the ***:Gossypol inhibited all the *** minimum inhibitory concentrations were 12.5μg/mL for Trichophyton mentagrophytes and Microsporum canis and 25μg/mL for Trichophyton rubrum and Microsporum *** minimum fungicidal concentrations were 50μg/mL for Trichophyton mentagrophytes,100μg/mL for Microsporum canis and Trichophyton rubrum,and 200μg/mL for Microsporum *** inhibited the mRNA expression of metalloprotease(MEP4)and isocitrate lyase(ICL).The binding of gossypol with the enzymes was confirmed by molecular docking *** best docking poses were found and the low binding energies were recorded with the two target ***:Gossypol is a potential antifungal agent and can be further explored as an anti-dermatophytic drug.

Age Estimation Using Single-Rooted Teeth of Indian Residents by Modified Kvaal’s Method:A Pilot Study

Background:This study aimed to create an age estimation formula with high sensitivity and specificity using the modified Kvaal’s dental radiographic *** parameters for age estimation were assessed by measuring the length and width of tooth,root,and pulp with the help of a stereomicroscope and digital image *** and Methods:Only single-rooted noncarious teeth were included.A total of 203 samples of teeth,with an age ranging from 15 to 85 years,were collected,of which only 123 samples were included in the *** of vertically sectioned teeth specimens were captured under a stereomicroscope(version SZ-790,×10 mm eyepiece),and parameters were measured using Adobe ***:Karl Pearson’s correlation coefficient was used to correlate age with the dental parameters,and step-wise regression analysis was used to derive the age estimation formula.A significant correlation of age with pulp length and root and pulp width having P<0.001 was observed,and an age estimation formula with a standard estimation error of 14 could be ***:Kvaal’s parameter in extracted single-rooted tooth showed a better reliability and reproducibility in age *** studies with a larger sample size and tooth-specific formula using principal component analysis should be considered to validate the accuracy of the present result.

Near-UV light assisted green reduction of graphene oxide films through l-ascorbic acid

Recent studies have highlighted the effects of various stimuli on the chemical reduction of graphene oxide(GO)through green reductant L-ascorbic acid(L-AA);however,the combination of near ultraviolet(NUV)light to increase the reduction rate has yet to be thoroughly *** this study,drop-casted GO films were subjected to chemical reduction through L-AA with various levels of exposure under 405 nm NUV *** structure and uniformity of GO stackings that form the film were characterized through scanning electron microscopy(SEM)and wide-angle x-ray scattering(WAXS).Additionally,WAXS was used to track the removal of oxygen-containing functional groups along with Fourier-transform infrared(FT-IR)spectroscopy and x-ray photoelectron spectroscopy(XPS)as a function of L-AA and NUV light exposure *** results demonstrated that the interaction between L-AA and NUV exposure has a significant effect on the reduction of ***,the results that yielded the highest reduction(C-C bond concentration of 60.7%)were the longest L-AA and NUV light exposure times(48 hours and 3 hours,respectively).This report provides a study on the effects of NUV on the green reduction of GO films through L-AA with potential application in solar energy and chemical sensing applications.

Severe traumatic spinal cord injury(SCI)results in a devastating and permanent loss of function,and is currently an incurable *** is generally accepted that future intervention strategies will require combinational approaches,including bioengineered scaffolds,to support axon growth across tissue scarring and cystic ***,we demonstrated that implantation of a microporous type-I collagen scaffold into an experimental model of SCI was capable of supporting functional recovery in the absence of extensive implant–host neural tissue ***,we demonstrate the reactive host cellular responses that may be detrimental to neural tissue integration after implantation of collagen scaffolds into unilateral resection injuries of the adult rat spinal *** demonstrated scattered fibroblast-like cell infiltration throughout the scaffolds as well as the presence of variable layers of densely packed cells,the fine processes of which extended along the graft–host *** reactive astroglial or regenerating axonal profiles could be seen traversing this *** encapsulation-type behaviour around bioengineered scaffolds impedes the integration of host neural tissues and reduces the intended bridging role of the *** of the cellular and molecular mechanisms underpinning this behaviour will be pivotal in the future design of collagen-based bridging scaffolds intended for regenerative medicine.

High-resolution patterns of palaeoenvironmental changes during the Little Ice Age and the Medieval Climate Anomaly in the northwestern Iberian Peninsula

to identify plant macrofossils,estimate peat humification and calculate hydroclimatic indices based on current bog species,with the overall aim of determining the climate conditions associated with evolution of the bog during the Medieval Climate Anomaly and the Little Ice *** proxies,together with historical and climate data,proved to be good indicators of the changes in bog surface ***:of the core led to identification of 9 different periods:two corresponding to the so-called Medieval Climate Anomaly(930 to 1345 AD,1075–665 calibrated years before present[*** BP]);four corresponding to the Little Ice Age(1345 to 1905 AD;665–105 cal yr BP);and three corresponding to the last century(1905 to 2000 AD).The findings revealed a generally dry climate that lasted until the 14th century,followed by a transition to a long period with a more humid,but characteristically very variable climate,which ended at the beginning of the 20th century and was followed by a rapid transition to more humid conditions and finally,a change to drier *** Medieval Climate Anomaly was indicated by the abundance of dry-adapted mosses(Leucobryum glaucum,Hypnum cupressiforme)and characterized by warm dry conditions and high levels of peat humification,with alternating wet *** LIA period was dated by a large abundance of Sphagnum species(an indicator of wetness)and a gradual increase in the humification ***,four different climate phases were differentiated in this ***-resolution reconstruction of the evolution of the CVM bog and the multiproxy approach have together enabled a more detailed identification of climatic variations in this area,which are generally consistent with the global models,as well as better definition of the elusive climatic oscillations in the last millennium and confirmation of the importance of local modulation of global *** study provides new information and a detailed chronology of climatic events that will hel

Fabrication of Gypsum Panels with Low-Cost Alternative Materials

During decades, gypsum has been employed as construction material for its versatility and particle size. In the present work, the possibility of developing gypsum panels with the incorporation of pumice and polypropylene as alternative materials has been investigated. Pumice as well as polypropylene allows obtaining lighter panels than those on the market and with a lower production cost. Each one of these materials was characterized separately. In the case of gypsum and pumice, their granulometry, pH and humidity were determined, whereas polypropylene was characterized by a traction-deformation essay. Then, panels composition （gypsum and pumice concentration）, particle size, water temperature and the way polypropylene was added, was assessed. Panels with a 70% of gypsum, with a particle size of 198 btm and with polypropylene added in a laminar fashion, presented a compressive strength of 350 kPa, which accords to the norm ASTM 1396 and with market requirements. Finally, it was proposed a block diagram of the process for the fabrication of 100 kg/day of formulated panels.
