A key adaptation in insects f.r dealing with variable environmental conditions is the ability to diapause. The tiger swallowtail butterf.ies, Papilio glaucus and P. canadensis are ideal species to explore the genetic causes and population genetic consequences of.diapause because divergence in this trait is believed to be a salient f.ctor in maintaining a hybrid zone between these species. Yet little is known about the f.ctors that inf.uence diapause induction in this system. Here we explored how spatial （latitudinal）, environmental （temperature） and genetic （hybridization） f.ctors af.ect diapause induction in this system. Specif.cally, a series of.growth chamber experiments using wild caught individuals f.om across the eastern United States were perf.rmed to：（1） evaluate how critical photoperiod varies with latitude, （2） isolate the stage in which induction occurs, （3） test whether changes in temperature af.ected rates of.diapause induction, and （4） explore how the incidence of.diapause is af.ected in hybrid of.spring. We f.nd that induction occurs in the larval stage, is not sensitive to a relatively broad range of.temperatures, appears to have a complex genetic basis （i.e., is not simply a dominant trait f.llowing a Mendelian inheritance pattern） and that the critical photoperiod increases by 0.4 h with each increasing degree in latitude. This work deepens our understanding of.how spatial, environmental and genetic variation inf.uences a key seasonal adaptation （diapause induction） in a well-developed ecological model system and will make possible f.ture studies that explore how climatic variation af.ects the population dynamics and genetics of.this system.

Vesicular nanocarrier f.rmulations conf.r the ability to deliver hydrophobic and hydrophilic cargos simultaneously to cells of.interest in vivo. While liposomal f.rmulations reached the clinic long ago, younger technologies such as polymeric vesicles （polymersomes） have yet to make the transition to clinical approval and use, in part due to dif.iculties in ensuring their saf. and scalable production. In this work, we demonstrate the scalable production of.poly（ethylene glycol）-block-poly（propylene sulf.de）（PEG-bl-PPS） polymersomes via f.ash nanoprecipitation, and f.rther show the saf. administration of.these nanocarriers to mice and non-human primates. In mice, PEG-bl-PPS polymersomes were f.und to be well tolerated at up to 200 mg/（***）. f.llowing the administration of.a more relevant 20 mg/（***） dosage in non-human primates, polymersomes were f.und to associate with numerous phagocytic immune cell populations, including a remarkable 68% of.plasmacytoid dendritic cells and 〉 95% of.macrophages in the spleen, while showing no toxicity or abnormalities in the liver, kidney, spleen, or blood. Despite the presence of.a dense PEG corona, neither anti-PEG antibodies nor complement activation were detected. This work provides evidence of.the translatability of.PEG-bI-PPS polymersomes into the clinic f.r therapeutic applications in humans.

Background： Australia＇s energy f.ture is at the crossroads and the role of.renewable sources is in f.cus. Biomass f.om sustainably managed f.rests provide a signif.cant opportunity f.r electricity and heat generation and production of.liquid f.els. Australia has extensive native f.rests of.which a signif.cant proportion are on private land. However, there is limited knowledge on the potential capacity of.this resource to contribute to the expansion of.a biomass f.r bioenergy industry. In addition, there are concerns on how to reconcile biomass harvesting with environmental protection. Methods： We used regional ecosystem vegetation mapping f.r Queensland to stratif. harvestable f.rests within the 1.8 m hectares of.private native f.rests present in the Southeast Queensland bioregion in 2014. We used a dataset of.52,620 individual tree measurements f.om 541 f.rest inventory plots collected over the last 10 years. Tree biomass was estimated using current biomass allometric equations f.r Australia. Biomass potentially available f.om selective sawlog harvesting and silvicultural treatment across the bioregion was calculated and mapped. Results： Current sawlog harvesting extracts 41.4% of.the standing tree biomass and a biomass f.r bioenergy harvest would retain on average 36% of.f.lled tree biomass on site f.r the protection of.environmental and f.una habitat values. The estimated area extent of.harvestable private native f.rests in the bioregion in 2013 was 888,000 ha and estimated available biomass f.r bioenergy in living trees was 13.6 million tonnes （t）. The spotted gum （Corymbio citriodora subsp, variegata） f.rests were the most extensive, covering an area of.379,823 ha and with a biomass f.r bioenergy yield of.14.2 t-ha-1 （with approximately 11.2 ***-1 of.the biomass harvested f.om silvicultural thinning and 3 ***-1 recovered f.om sawlog harvest residual）. BACKGROUND Tobacco use is a well-documented modif.able risk f.ctor f.r perioperative *** To determine the tobacco abstinence rates of.patients who made cessation ef.orts prior to a total joint arthroplasty(TJA)*** A retrospective evaluation was perf.rmed on 88 self.reported tobacco users who underwent TJA between 2014-2022 and had tobacco cessation dates within 3 mo of.*** patients were contacted via phone survey to understand their tobacco use pattern,and patient reported outcomes.A total of.37 TJA patients *** Our cohort was on average 61-years-old,60%(n=22)women,with an average body mass index of.30 kg/m^(2).The average f.llow-up time was 2.9±1.9 years.A total of.73.0%(n=27)of.patients endorsed complete abstinence f.om tobacco use prior to *** cessation methods were used perioperatively including prescription therapy(13.5%),over the counter nicotine replacement(18.9%),cessation programs(5.4%).At f.nal f.llow up,43.2%(n=16)of.prior tobacco smokers reported complete *** who were able to maintain cessation postoperatively had improved Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Inf.rmation System(PROMIS)-10 mental health scores(49 vs 58;P=0.01),and hip dysf.nction and osteoarthritis outcome score f.r joint replacement(***)scores(63 vs 82;P=0.02).No patients in this cohort had a prosthetic joint inf.ction or required revision *** We report a tobacco cessation rate of.43.2%in patients undergoing elective TJA nearly 3 years *** undergoing TJA who were able to remain abstinent had improved PROMIS-10 mental health scores and *** *** perioperative period provides clinicians a unique opportunity to assist active tobacco smokers with cessation ef.orts and improve postoperative outcomes.

＜正＞This talk will he f.cused on the new development of.packing materials f.r liquid chromatographic separation of.biological molecules and nanomaterials, including sub-2 micron particles, size exclusion phases, ion-exchange phases and carbohydrate phases. In the area of.size exclusion, we recently developed new silica based Nanof.lm SEC and CNT SEC series of.products. Besides high stability and high ef.iciency, the Nanof.lm SEC phases were specially designed f.r separation of.highly positively charged proteins at very low salt concentration that has bee a challenge f.r many years. f.r example, lysozyme （pI=1 1） could be properly eluted on the Nanof.lm SEC phases at 50 mM phosphate buf.er at pH 7.0. The CNT SEC phases are the only SEC products in the global market f.r length dependence separation of.carbon nanotubes with almost 100% recovery. In the ion-exchange chromatography, a variety of.polysty?rene/divinylbenzene （PS/DVB） based ion-exchange phases have been developed. The particle size is controlled f.om 1 to 10 μ m. Their pore structures are designed f.om non-porous to a controlled one, such as 300 and 500μ. A special surf.ce chemistry was invented to greatly increase the capacity f.r non-porous ion-exchange resins as well as maintain high ef.iciency and resolution. A sub-2 micron ion-exchange resin of.ers unprecedented separation ef.iciency that would generate a lot of.application interest in proteomics studies.

Invasive hybridization and introgression pose a serious threat to the persistence of.many native species. Understand- ing the ef.ects of.hybridization on native populations （e.g., f.tness consequences） requires numerous species-diagnostic loci dis- tributed genome-wide. Here we used RAD sequencing to discover thousands of.single-nucleotide polymorphisms （SNPs） that are diagnostic between rainbow trout （RBT, Oncorhynchus mykiss）, the world＇s most widely introduced f.sh, and native westslope cutthroat trout （WCT, （9. clarkii lewisi） in the northern Rocky Mountains, USA. We advanced previous work that identif.ed 4,914 species-diagnostic loci by using longer sequence reads （100 bp vs. 60 bp） and a larger set of.individuals （n = 84）. We sequenced RAD libraries f.r individuals f.om diverse sampling sources, including native populations of.WCT and hatchery broodstocks of.WCT and RBT. We also took advantage of.a newly released ref.rence genome assembly f.r RBT to align our RAD loci. In total, we discovered 16,788 putatively diagnostic SNPs, 10,267 of.which we mapped to anchored chromosome locations on the RBT genome. A small portion of.previously discovered putative diagnostic loci （325 of.4,914） were no longer diagnostic （i.e., f.xed between species） based on our wider survey of.non-hybridized RBT and WCT individuals. Our study suggests that RAD loci mapped to a draf. genome assembly could provide the marker density required to identif. genes and chromosomal regions in- f.uencing selection in admixed populations of.conservation concern and evolutionary interest [Current Zoology 61 （1）： 146-154, 2015].

Power Output and Electromyography Activity of.the Back Squat Exercise with Cluster Sets

Recently, it has been demonstrated that hypertrophic training with CLU （cluster） sets produces greater strength and power f.llowing a 12-week periodized program. The results suggest possible dif.erences in neuromuscular adaptations. Theref.re, we sought to compare the acute ef.ect of.TRD （traditional） and CLU set conf.gurations during the parallel back squat on mean power output and integrated EMG （electromyography） activity of.the VL （vastus lateralis） and Bf.（biceps f.moris）. Ten males （23 ~ 2.4 years; height 182.9 ~ 6.1 cm; weight 86.2 ~ 4.2 kg; 5 ~ 2 years training） perf.rmed the parallel back squat using TRD and CLU with 75% 1RM （one-repetition maximum） in a randomized crossover design. Data was analyzed by a repeated measures--ANOVA （analysis of.variance）. A signif.cant ef.ect of.set （P = 0.006） was observed in mean power output. Mean power output decreased over each successive set when collapsed f.r condition. Clusters resulted in greater mean power output during latter repetitions of.each set （repetition 4, 6-10; P 〈 0.05）. A signif.cant ef.ect of.set （P = 0.049） was observed in VL EMG. VL EMG increased over each successive set when collapsed f.r condition. TRD training produced signif.cantly greater VL EMG during latter repetitions of.each set （repetition 6-8; P 〈 0.05）. An interaction was observed in Bf.EMG. No signif.cant dif.erences were observed in post-hoc. Thus, cluster sets can be used to achieve greater power output, but greater neuromuscular activity should not be expected relative to traditional training.
