Background.With rising concerns regard.ng the effects of red.meat on human and.environmental health,a growing number of livestock prod.cers are exploring ways to improve prod.ction systems.A promising avenue includ.s agro-ecological practices such as rotational grazing of locally ad.pted.***,growing consumer interest in pasture-finished.meat(i.e.,grass-fed.has raised.questions about its nutritional ***,the goal of this stud. was to d.termine the impact of two common finishing systems in North American bison—pasture-finished.or pen-finished.on concentrates for 146 d.on metabolomic,lipid.mic,and.fatty acid.profiles of striploins(*** lumborum).Results Six hund.ed.and.seventy-one(671)out of 1570 profiled.compound.(43%)d.ffered.between pasture-and.penfinished.cond.tions(n=20 animals per group)(all,Pd.animals,the muscle of pen-finished.animals d.splayed.elevated.glucose metabolites(~1.6-fold.,triglycerid.s(~2-fold.,markers of oxid.tive stress(~1.5-fold.,and.proteolysis(~1.2-fold..In contrast,pasture-finished.animals d.splayed.improved.mitochond.ial(~1.3-fold.higher levels of various Krebs cycle metabolites)and.carnitine metabolism(~3-fold.higher levels of long-chain acyl carnitines)(all Pd.higher levels of phenolics(~2.3-fold.,alpha-tocopherol(~5.8-fold.,carotene(~2.0-fold.,and.very long-chain fatty acid.(~1.3-fold.in their meat,while having lower levels of a common ad.anced.lipoxid.tion(4-hyd.oxy-nonenal-glutathione;~2-fold.and.glycation end.prod.ct(N6-carboxymethyllysine;~1.7-fold.(all Pd.C,gamma/beta-tocopherol,and.three phenolics commonly found.in alfalfa were~2.5-fold.higher in pen-finished.animals(all Pd.ng,or grazing plants rich in those compound.,may be *** Pasture-finishing(i.e.,grass-fed.broad.y improves bison metabolic health and.accumulates ad.itional po

Approaches for pred.cting low-lying resonances,uniformly treating bound.and.resonant levels have been a long-stand.ng goal in nuclear ***,we explored.the viability of the complex momentum representation(CMR)approach coupled.with new *** focus on pred.cting the energy of the low-lying 2p_(3∕2)resonance in 17 O,which is critical for s-process nucleosynthesis and.missing in previous theoretical *** a Wood.-Saxon potential based.on the Koning-d.laroche optical mod.l and.constrained.by the experimental one-neutron separation energy,we successfully pred.cted.the resonant energy of this level for the first *** pred.ctions of the bound.levels and.1d.(3∕2)resonance agree well with the measurement ***,we utilize this approach to stud. the near-threshold.resonances that play a role when forming a two-neutron halo in^(29,31)*** found.that the CMR-based.pred.ctions of the bound.level energies and.unbound.1f7∕2 level agree well with the results obtained.using the scattering phase shift ***,we successfully found.a solution for the 2p_(3∕2)resonance with energy just above the threshold.which is d.cisive for halo formation.

A controlled.hyd.oponic experiment was und.rtaken to investigate Cd.uptake in relation to the activity of Cd.species in solution other than the free ion （Cd.2＋） by maintaining a constant Cd.2＋ activity und.r variable SO4^2- and.Cl^- concentrations exposed.to maize （Zea mays vat. Cameron） plants. The objectives of these experiments were：（1） to d.stinguish and.quantify the d.fferent uptake rates of free and.inorganic-complexed.Cd.from nutrient solution, and.（2） to mod.l the uptake of Cd.by maize with a Biotic Ligand.Mod.l （BLM） in a system which facilitates the close examination of root characteristics. Results of the current experiments suggest that, in ad.ition to the free ion, Cd.O4^0 complexes are important factors in d.termining Cd.uptake in nutrient solution by maize plants. Higher nominal SO4^2- concentrations in solution generally resulted.in a greater Cd.accumulation by maize plants than pred.cted.by the Cd.2＋ activity. A better integration of the complete d.taset for the 3 harvest times （6, 9 and.11 d.ys after treatment） was achieved.by includ.ng consid.ration of both the d.ration of Cd.exposure and.especially the root surface area to express Cd.uptake. Similarly, the fit of the BLM was also improved.when taking into account exposure time and.expressing uptake in terms of root morphological parameters.

d.veloping a practical means of red.cing alloimmunization in chronically transfused.patients would.be of significant clinical benefit. Immunocamouflaging red.blood.cells (RBCs) by membrane grafting of methoxypoly(ethylene glycol) (mPEG) may red.ce the risk of allo-immunization. The results of this stud. showed.that antibod. recognition of non-ABO antigens was significantly red.ced.in an mPEG-d.se- and.polymer size-d.pend.nt manner, with higher molecular weight mPEGs provid.ng better immunoprotection. Furthermore, in vivo immunogenicity was significantly red.ced.in mice serially transfused.with mPEG-mod.fied.xenogeneic (sheep; sRBCs), allogeneic (C57Bl/6), or syngeneic (Balb/c) RBCs. Following a primary transfu- sion of sRBCs, mice receiving mPEG-sRBCs showed.a >90% red.ction in anti-sRBC IgG antibod. levels. After two transfusions, mice receiving mPEG-sRBCs showed.red.ctions of >80% in anti-sRBC IgG levels. Importantly, mPEG-mod.fied.autologous cells d.d.not ind.ce neoantigens or an immune (IgG or IgM) response. These d.ta suggest that the global immunocamouflage of RBCs by polymer grafting may provid. a safe and.cost-effective means of red.cing the risk of alloimmunization.

The presence of lignin red.ces the quality of lignocellulosic biomass for forage materials and.feed.tock for biofuels. In C4 grasses, the brown mid.ib phenotype has been linked.to mutations to genes in the monolignol biosynthesis pathway. For example, the Bmr6 gene in sorghum （Sorghum bicolor） has been previously shown to encod. cinnamyl alcohol d.hyd.ogenase （CAd., which catalyzes the final step of the monolignol biosynthesis pathway. Mutations in this gene have been shown to red.ce the abund.nce of lignin, enhance d.gestibility, and.improve saccharification efficiencies and.ethanol yield.. Nine sorghum lines harboring five d.fferent bmr6 alleles were id.ntified.in an EMS-mutagenized.TILLING population. d.A sequencing of Bmr6 revealed.that the majority of the mutations impacted.evolutionarily conserved.amino acid. while three-d.mensional structural mod.ling pred.cted.that all of these alleles interfered.with the enzyme＇s ability to bind.with its NAPPH cofactor. All of the new alleles red.ced.in vitro CAd.activity levels and.enhanced.glucose yield. following saccharification. Further, many of these lines were associated.with higher red.ctions in acid.d.tergent lignin compared.to lines harboring the previously characterized.bmr6-ref allele. These bmr6 lines represent new breed.ng tools for manipulating biomass composition to enhance forage and.feed.tock quality.
