Aim:Extrapyramidal syndrome (EPS) is most commonly affected by typical antip-sychotic drugs that have a high affinity with the D2 ***,manyresearch groups have reported on the positive relationship between the geneticvariations in the DRD2 gene and the therapeutic response in schizophrenia pa-tients as a result of the role of variations in the receptor in modulating *** this study,we evaluate the role DRD2 plays in chlorpromazine-induced EPS in schizophrenic ***:We identified seven SNP(singlenucleotide polymorphism) (-141Cins>del,TaqIB,TaqID,Ser311Cys,rs6275,rs6277and TaqIA) in the DRD2 gene in 146 schizophrenic inpatients (59 with EPS and 87without EPS according to the Simpson-Angus Scale) treated with chlorpromazineafter 8 *** alleles of all loci were determined by PCR (polymerase chainreaction).Results:Polymorphisms TaqlD,Ser311Cys and rs6277 were not poly-morphic in the population recruited in the present *** statistical signifi-cance was found in the allele distribution of-141Cins>del,TaqIB,rs6275 andTaqIA or in the estimated haplotypes (constituted by TaqIB,rs6275 and TaqIA) inlinkage disequilibrium between the two ***:Our results did notlend strong support to the view that the genetic variation of the DRD2 gene playsa major role in the individually variable adverse effect induced by chlorpromazine,at least in Chinese patients with *** results confirmed a previousstudy on the relationship between DRD2 and EPS in Caucasians.

In the continuation of our study on the Serratta marcescens O-antigen, two disaccharides8 and 13, corresponding to the key intermediates of oligosaccharides related to the S. marcescensO10 antigen, were srythesized by the trichloroacetate method. Their structures and compositionswere characterized by H NMR, C NMR, 2D NMR and IR, FAB-MS spectra.

Oxidation of 1 with KMnO_4 in acetone-H_2O (1:1) for 1h gave nevadenine 2 (38%). But. 3 was formed in 98% yield when prolonging time and raising temperature (40℃). Reaction of 1 and 10 with Conforth reagent afforded the ketones 11 (55%), 12 (30%), and 13 (13%), 14 (20%). respectively. While oxidation of 7 and 15 with a variety of the oxidizing agents gave 17 only in low 20% of yield besides the minor 16. In addition. 1 was converted to 2 by the fungi Curvularia lunata.

Evaluation of medical Cost Lost Due to Smoking in Chinese Cities

Smoking induces substantial diseases burden on both individual and the whole *** identify the true smoking-attributable economic loss, we introduce medical cost accounting as a means to calculate disease-speciflc medical cost, including inpatient and outpatient cost of those diseases caused by smoking. medical cost is defined as health fesource consumption in terms of money. Cost is allocated to departrpent and services according to coeffcient of benefit and operation time. The study in 1988 indicates that total smoking-attributable medical cost is 2.32 billion RMB Yuan in china, 1.70 billion RMB Yuan for outpatient, 0.62 billion RMB Yuan for inpatient. If indirect cost is included, the cost will be greater. Chronic obstructive emphysema has the highest proportion (55.41%) in smoking attributable medical cost

Migration inhibitory factor-related protein 14 (MRP14) is one of calcium-binding proteins, referred as S100A9. The heterodimeric molecule formed by MRP14 with its partner MRP8 (S100A8) is the major fatty acid carrier in neutrophils. The MRP8/14 complex has been also implicated in the intracellular transport of arachidonic acid and its precursors in keratinocytes. We show here the involvement of MRP14 in human esophageal cancer. In an initial study, mRNA differential display-reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (DD-PCR) was performed with two esophageal carcinomas, one esophageal adenocarcinoma and matched normal adjacent mucosa. DD-PCR with the arbitrary primer OPA3 showed that one cDNA band was highly expressed in normal tissues, but disappeared or substantially decreased in tumor counterparts. It was later identified to be the 3’-end of migration inhibitory factor-related protein 14 (MRP14).
