Compelling shreds of evidence derived from both clinical and experimental research have demonstrated the crucial contribution of receptor for advanced glycation end products(RAGE)axis activation in the development of neoplasms,including gastric cancer(GC).This new actor in tumor biology plays an important role in the onset of a crucial and long-lasting inflammatory milieu,not only by supporting phenotypic changes favoring growth and dissemination of tumor cells,but also by functioning as a pattern-recognition receptor in the inflammatory response to Helicobacter pylori *** the present review,we aim to highlight how the overexpression and activation of the RAGE axis contributes to the proliferation and survival of GC cells as and their acquisition of more invasive phenotypes that promote dissemination and ***,the contribution of some single nucleotide polymorphisms in the RAGE gene as susceptibility or poor prognosis factors is also discussed.

Compelling evidence derived from clinical and experimental research has demonstrated the crucial contribution of chronic inflammation in the development of neoplasms,including gallbladder *** this regard,data derived from clinical and experimental studies have demonstrated that the receptor of advanced glycation end-products(RAGE)/AGEs axis plays an important role in the onset of a crucial and long-lasting inflammatory milieu,thus supporting tumor growth and *** are formed in biological systems or foods,and food-derived AGEs,also known as dietary AGEs are known to contribute to the systemic pool of *** they bind to RAGE,the activation of multiple and crucial signaling pathways are triggered,thus favoring the secretion of several proinflammatory cytokines also involved in the promotion of gallbladder cancer invasion and *** the present review,we aimed to highlight the relevance of the association between high dietary AGEs intakes and high risk for gallbladder cancer,and emerging data supporting that dietary intervention to reduce gallbladder cancer risk is a very attractive approach that deserves much more research efforts.

Multiple von Meyenburg complexes mimicking diffuse liver metastases from esophageal squamous cell carcinoma

Von Meyenburg complexes are benign liver lesions consisting of adenomatous bile duct proliferates. We present two patients suffering from esophageal cancer accompanied by the occurrence of yon Meyenburg complexes. Preoperative computerized tomography （CT） of the liver had not shown these lesions. In one of the patients, diffuse nodular manifestation was found in both liver lobes, mimicking diffuse hepatic metastases. Intraoperative frozen section revealed the benign nature of the lesions in both cases. The patients underwent esophageal resection without complications. To the best of our knowledge, the coincidence of von Meyenburg complexes and esophageal cancer has never been reported before. This uncommon entity should be taken into consideration as a differential diagnosis of liver lesions in malignancies. It underlines the importance of intraoperative frozen section for liver lesions of unknown origin.

The epithelium of human amnion from patients following normal pregnancy(normal amniotic epithelium) and from patients with toxemia were examined under the light and electronmicroscopes. In contrast to normal amniotic epithelium, the epithelium in toxemia exhibits the following morphologic changes: The cells are low cuboidal; the light cells are frequently seen; the microvilli on the free cell surfaces are inequally distributed; the nuclei are elongated and highly deformed, forming loops and lobes; there are no glycogen particles in the cytoplasm; and the basal membrane is thickened and in parts stratified.

Large grain Y-Ba-Cu-O (YBCO) superconductors doped with various amounts of depleted uranium oxide have been fabricated by top seeded melt growth (TSMG). The effect of depleted UO2 on the large grain microstructure has been studied systematically in samples with and without added Pt. Addition of uranium oxide results in the formation of U-phase particles of dimensions of a few hundred nanometers with an approximately spherical morphology in the superconducting YBa2Cu3O7-δ(Y-123) phase matrix. Addition of Y2O3 to the uranium doped precursor powder, rather than Y-211, yields a significantly finer distribution of second phase particles. The chemical composition of the U-phase particles, found in samples with no Pt addition, has been identified as Y2Ba4CuUOy, which exhibits paramagnetic behaviour. It has been confirmed experimentally that this phase forms during the peritectic solidification process. Magnetic measurements show that U-doped melt processed YBCO exhibits improved critical current densities and trapped fields compared to un-doped material.

In this paper, we propose an additional noise-free, independent center frequency and bandwidth tunable optical filter based on stimulated Brillouin scattering(SBS) losses. By suppressing the out-of-band signal with two broadened symmetric SBS losses, tunable pass bandwidths from 500 MHz to 9.5 GHz and the independent center frequency tunability are demonstrated. Considering the limited SBS interaction in the center frequency range,a flat-top response with minimum 0.3 dB ripple is achieved. Assisted by the extra suppression from polarization pulling, a maximum selectivity of 20 dB and an ultrahigh 250 dB∕GHz roll-off are reached. A gain-based SBS filter adds noise to the filtered signal. However, for our proposed filter setup, no additional noise is detected due to the transparency in the passband. Considering the wide independent bandwidth and center frequency tunability, flat-top response, and low-noise characteristic, our proposed filter can be perfectly used as a supplement of most commercialized conventional tunable optical single bandpass filters, whose minimum bandwidth is limited by 10 GHz.

Real-time spectrum sensing is essential to enable dynamic and rapid spectrum sharing of unused frequencies to cater the substantial demands of new wireless services deploying the existing RF *** this paper,we present a novel,real-time spectrum sensing approach for widely used RF signals based on Brillouin-scattering-induced transparency(BIT).A temporal discrimination of multi-channel input frequencies is achieved through the group delay tuning by *** tuning the pump power and frequency,the proposed technique is fully reconfigurable and viable for a broad range of spectrum *** experimental illustrations of the time domain sensing are presented for two-tone channels with 0.9,1.8,and 5 GHz frequencies to detect the unused spectrum within 3 G,4 G,and 5 G signals.

BACKGROUND One of the common late sequela in patients with end-stage renal disease(ESRD)is the calcium phosphate disorder leading to chronic hypercalcemia and hyperphosphatemia causing the precipitation of calcium salt in soft *** calcinosis is an extremely rare clinical manifestation of cyst-like soft tissue deposits in different periarticular regions in patients with ESRD and is characterized by extensive calcium salt containing space-consuming painful *** treatment of ESRD patients with tumoral calcinosis manifestation involves an increase in or switching of renal replacement therapy regimes and the adjustment of oral medication with the goal of improved hypercalcemia and *** SUMMARY We describe a 40-year-old woman with ESRD secondary to IgA-nephritis and severe bilateral manifestation of tumoral calcinosis associated with hypercalcemia,hyperphosphatemia and tertiary *** patient was on continuous ambulatory peritoneal dialysis and treatment with vitamin D *** switching her to a daily hemodialysis schedule and adjusting the medical treatment,the patient experienced a significant dissolution of her soft tissue calcifications within a couple of *** remission was achieved 11 mo after the initial *** Reduced patient compliance and subsequent insufficiency of dialysis regime quality contribute to the aggravation of calcium phosphate disorder in a patient with ESRD leading to the manifestation of tumoral ***,the improvement of the treatment strategy and reinforcement of patient compliance enabled complete remission of this rare disease entity.
