Removal of endocrine disrupting chemicals from water through urethane functionalization of microfiltration membranes via electron beam irradiation

Polyethersulphone(PES)membranes modified with urethane functional groups were prepared through an interfacial reaction using electron beam *** removal of eight endocrine disrupting chemicals(EDCs)was studied using both pristine and functionalized PES *** prepared membranes underwent characterization using several techniques,including attenuated total reflectance-Fourier transform infrared(ATR-FTIR)spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy,contact angle analysis,and measurements of pure water ***,dynamic adsorption experiments were conducted to evaluate the adsorption mechanism of the prepared membrane toward the eight *** urethane functionalized membranes were hydrophilic(52°contact angle)and maintained a high permeate flux(26000 l/h m^(2) bar)throughout the filtration *** adsorption results demonstrated that the introduction of urethane functional groups on the membranes significantly enhanced the removal efficiency of 17β-estradiol,estriol,bisphenol A,estrone,ethinylestradiol,and *** adsorption loading of 17β-estradiol on the functionalized PES membrane was 6.7±0.7 mg/m^(2),exhibiting a 5-fold increase compared to the unmodified PES *** membranes were successfully regenerated and reused for three adsorption cycles without experiencing any loss of adsorption capacity.

Potential health risks related to environmental endocrine disruptors(EEDs)have aroused research hotspots at the forefront of water treatment ***,nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide/schwertmannite nanocomposites(N-TiO_(2)/sch)have been successfully developed as heterogeneous catalysts for the degradation of typical EEDs via photo-Fenton *** to the sustainable Fe(Ⅲ)/Fe(Ⅱ)conversion induced by photoelectrons,as-prepared N-TiO_(2)/sch nanocomposites exhibit much enhanced efficiency for the degradation of bisphenol A(BPA;ca.100% within 60 min under visible irradiation)in a wide pH range of 3.0-7.8,which is significantly higher than that of the pristine schwertmannite(ca.74.5%)or N-TiO_(2)(ca.10.8%).In this photo-Fenton system,the efficient degradation of BPA is mainly attributed to the oxidation by hydroxyl radical(·OH)and singlet oxygen(^(1)O_(2)).Moreover,the possible catalytic mechanisms and reaction pathway of BPA degradation are systematically investigated based on analytical and photoelectrochemical *** work not only provides a feasible means for the development of novel heterogeneous photo-Fenton catalysts,but also lays a theoretical foundation for the potential application of mineral-based materials in wastewater treatment.

We introduce a training protocol for developing machine learning force fields(MlFFs),capable of accurately determining energy barriers in catalytic reaction *** protocol is validated on the extensively explored hydrogenation of carbon dioxide to methanol over indium *** the help of active learning,the final force field obtains energy barriers within 0.05 eV of Density Functional *** to the computational speedup,not only do we reduce the cost of routine in-silico catalytic tasks,but also find an alternative path for the previously established rate-limiting step,with a 40%reduction in activation ***,we illustrate the importance of finite temperature effects and compute free energy *** transferability of the protocol is demonstrated on the experimentally relevant,yet unexplored,top-layer reduced indium oxide *** ability of MlFFs to enhance our understanding of extensively studied catalysts underscores the need for fast and accurate alternatives to direct ab-initio simulations.

Based on the best-track dataset from the Shanghai Typhoon Institute/China Meteorological Administration, the paper provides a comprehensive summary and analysis of tropical cyclone (TC) activities in the Western North Pacific (WNP) and the South China Sea (SCS) for 2022. Using the historical climatology from 1951 to 2020, the anomalous conditions during 2022 in TC frequency, origin locations, tracks, intensity, and duration for the entire ocean basin as well as landfall events in China are examined. Results show that the overall TC frequency is slightly lower than normal, but the multiple TC events have a very high frequency of occurrence. Origin locations of TCs, which mark the starting points of their paths, show a large westward and northward deviation from climatology. Around 40% of the named TCs exhibit a shift in their direction of movement from westerly to easterly. Additionally, comparisons of the means, medians, upper and lower quartiles all indicate that the intensity of TCs in 2022 is generally lower than the climatology, with the duration of TCs at tropical storm intensity or above being shorter than usual. A notable observation is the fewer incidence of TC landfalls in China, but with a geographical concentration in Guangdong Province. These anomalous annual TC activities are influenced by related atmospheric and oceanic environmental conditions modulated by multi-scale climate variability. The aggregation of multi-walled carbon nanotubes （MWCNTs） in the aqueous phase not only inhibits their extensive utilization in various aspects but also dominates their environmental fate and *** role of surfactants at low concentration in the aggregation of MWCNTs has been studied,however the effect of perfluorinated surfactants at low concentration is *** understand this interfacial phenomenon,the influences of perfluorooctanoic acid （PFOA）,and sodium dodecyl sulfate （SDS） as a control,on MWCNT aggregation in the aqueous phase were examined by the UV absorbency *** of pH and cationic species on the critical coagulation concentration （CCC） value were *** CCC values were dependent on the concentration of PFOA,however a pronounced effect of SDS concentration on the CCC values was not *** CCC values of the MWCNTs were 51.6 mmol/l in NaCl and 0.28 mmol/l in CaCl 2 solutions,which suggested pronounced differences in the effects of Na＋ and Ca2＋ ions on the aggregation of the *** presence of both PFOA and SDS significantly decreased the CCC values of the MWCNTs in NaCl *** aggregation of the MWCNTs took place under acidic conditions and was not notably altered under neutral and alkaline conditions due to the electrostatic repulsion of deprotonated functional groups on the surface of the MWCNTs.

Enantioselective synthesis of (R)-α-amino acids via heterocyclic intermediate-(3S)-2,5-dimethoxy-3-see-butyl-3, 6-dihydropyrazine (5), using l-isoleucine as chiral auxiliaryreagent and glycine as raw meterial, has been studied. The alkylation of compound 5 withbutyllithium affords its lithium derivative (6) according to the cardanion mechanism. Then 6reacts with alkyl halide RX (7) to give the alkylated products (8) with very high diastereo-selectivity. In this reaction, the group R of 7 enters trans to the see-butyl group at C-3, i. *** (R)-configuration is induced at C-6 of 8. After hydrolysis the (R)-α-amino acid methylesters (9) are obtained.
