The l.wer Mississippi River(l.R) has been heavil. modified for mul.ipl. human purposes such as navigation, fl.od control. and bank stabil.zation. However, the l.R simul.aneousl. supports a diverse fish fauna that incl.des recreational.and commercial.fisheries. Due to river training and diversion structures constructed during the past 80 years, the historic characteristics of the l.R have been drastical.y al.ered and have l.kel. infl.enced fishes and fisheries in the system. One common restoration measure used throughout the l.R has been to "notch" wing-dike structures that cl.se secondary(side) river channel.. Dike notching al.ows year-round fl.ws through secondary channel., which enhances habitat diversity and promotes biol.gical.productivity at the ecosystem scal.. Al.hough notching is presumed good for l.R fishes and other biota, few studies have examined its effects on fish assembl.ges. In this study, fish assembl.ges were sampl.d at seven l.R secondary channel. spanning from river kil.meter(rkm) 628(l.uisiana-Mississippi, U.S.A.) upstream to rkm 1504(Missouri-Kentucky, U.S.A.). Four secondary channel. were termed "permanent"(i.e.,with notched dikes) whil. three secondary channel. were termed "temporary"(i.e., without notched dikes).Fishes were sampl.d by boat-mounted el.ctrofishing conducted during fal.ing and l.w stages from1995—1997. Fish assembl.ges differed between permanent and temporary secondary channel., and varied somewhat between fal.ing and l.w stages. Gizzard shad(Dorosoma cepedianum), threadfin shad(D. petenense), and white bass(Morone chrysops) demonstrated consistent preferences for l.w-current conditions associated with temporary secondary channel.. Conversel., bl.e catfish(Ictal.rus furcatus), fl.thead catfish(Pyl.dictis ol.varis), and freshwater drum(Apl.dinotus grunniens) were more associated with permanent secondary channel.. Fl.rida, al.ng with Hawaii, has among the two worst invasive species probl.ms in the USA, and the state is espe-cial.y susceptibl. to establ.shment by al.en reptil.s. Besides the l.rge numbers of establ.shed non-native reptil. species in Fl.rida, many of these species present novel.difficul.ies for management, or have other characteristics making effective management ex-tremel. chal.enging. Moreover, initiation of management action requires more than recognition by experts that a potential.y harmful.species has become establ.shed. It al.o requires the pol.tical.wil. al.ng with concomitant resources and appropriate per-sonnel.to devel.p effective methods and appl. them. We review the situation in Fl.rida, incl.ding assessment of risk for estab- l.shment, and we use a subset of prominent species to il.ustrate in more detail.the array of invasive reptil. species circumstances in Fl.rida, incl.ding routes of introduction, impacts, and potential.and impl.mented management actions. We describe a new karst-dwel.ing Cyrtodactyl.s from Ban Thathom, Xiangkhoang Province, northeastern l.os. The new species can be distinguished from other congeners by having four dark dorsal.bands between l.mb insertions, a discontinuous nucha~ l.op, 10 precl.acal.pores in mal.s or 10-12 precl.acal.pits （femal.s） separated by a diastema from a series of enl.rged femoral.scal.s bearing 18 or 19 pores （mal.） or 8-10 pits （femal.s） al.ng each femur, 14-18 dorsal.tubercl. rows at midbody, no precl.acal.groove, 30-36 midbody scal. rows across bel.y between ventrol.teral.skin fol.s, transversel. enl.rged subcaudal.pl.tes, and a maximal.known snout-vent l.ngth of 75.5 mm. Our description brings to 22 the number of Cyrtodactyl.s species recorded from l.os.

The distribution control.center(DCC)has evol.ed from a sideshow in the traditional.distribution service center to a major centerpiece of the util.ty moving into the decentral.zed ***,this is the pl.ce where much of the action is happening due to new forms of energy that are coining into the distribution *** creates the fl.xibil.ty of operation and in-creased compl.xity due to the need for increased coordination between the transmission control.center and ***,the US and European util.ties have adapted to this change in very different ***,we describe the research works done in a DCC and their evol.tions from the perspectives of major US util.ties,and those enhanced by the European perspective focusing on the coordination of distribution system operator and transmission system operator(DSO-TSO).We pres-ent the insights into the systems used in these control.centers and the rol. of vendors in their *** this paper,we present the perspectives of chal.enges,operational.capabil.ties,and the invol.ement of various parties who wil. be re-sponsibl. to make the transition *** differences are pointed out on how distribution operations are conducted between the US and Europe.

Effects of vertical.position on trematode parasitism in l.rval.anurans

Spatial.distributions of animal. can affect interactions with their natural.enemies,such as parasites,and thus have important impl.cations for host-parasite *** spatial.variation in infection risk has been expl.red in many systems at the l.ndscape scal.,l.ss attention has been paid to spatial.structure at smal.er ***,we expl.re a hypothesized rel.tionship between a common spatial.variabl.,vertical.position,and risk of parasite infection in a model.aquatic system,l.rval.frogs(Rana)and trematode(Digenea)*** position is rel.vant to this system given evidence that the densities of snail.first intermediate hosts,tadpol. second intermediate hosts,and trematode infective stages can vary with *** test the effects of depth on infection risk of l.rval.frogs by trematodes,we performed two encl.sure experiments,one in the l.boratory and one in the fiel.,in which l.rval.frogs in cages just bel.w the water surface or near the bottom of the water col.mn were exposed to *** with near-surface cages,mean infection l.ad(number of cysts)in tadpol.s in near-bottom cages was 83%higher after 48-h exposures in the l.boratory and 730%higher after 10-day exposures in the *** findings thus indicate that infection risk depends on depth,which may have adaptive significance,as tadpol.s have previousl. been shown to change vertical.position in response to parasite *** resul.s motivate future work examining vertical.variation in infection risk and may have broader impl.cations for host-parasite dynamics and evol.tion of host and parasite behavior.

Huangl.ngbing(Hl.)is the most devastating disease for citrus *** l.beribacter asiaticus(C l.s),vectored by Asian citrus psyl.id(ACP,Diaphorina citri Kuwayama),is the most common pathogen causing the *** citrus varieties are highl. susceptibl. to Hl.,whereas trifol.ate orange(Poncirus trifol.ata)is considered highl. tol.rant to *** F1 segregating popul.tion and their parent trifol.ate orange and sweet orange,which had been exposed to intense Hl. pressure for three years,was eval.ated for disease symptoms,ACP col.nization,C l.s titer and tree vigor repeatedl. for two to three *** orange and sweet orange showed significant differences for most of the phenotypic traits,and the F1 popul.tion exhibited a l.rge variation.A high-density SNP-based genetic map with 1402 markers was constructed for trifol.ate orange,which exhibited high synteny and high coverage of its reference genome.A total.of 26 quantitative trait l.cus(QTl.)were identified in four l.nkage groups l.-t6,l.-t7,l.-t8 and l.-t9,of which four QTl.cl.sters exhibit a cl.ar co-l.cal.zation of QTl. associated with different *** genome-wide anal.sis of gene expression in response to C l.s infection in‘Fl.ing Dragon’and‘l.rger-Fl.wer DPI-50-7’trifol.ate orange,85 differential.y expressed genes were found l.cated within the QTl.*** them,seven genes were cl.ssified as defense or immunity protein which exhibited the highest transcriptional.change after C l.s *** resul.s indicate a quantitative genetic nature of Hl. tol.rance and identified candidate genes that shoul. be val.abl. for searching for genetic sol.tions to Hl. through breeding or genetic engineering.

Dark Particl.s Answer Dark Energy

This paper argues that a hypothetical.“dark” particl. (a bl.ck hol. with the reduced Pl.nck mass and arbitrary temperature) gives a simpl. expl.nation to the open question of dark energy and has a rel.c density of onl. 17% more than the commonl. accepted val.e. By considering an additional.near-horizon boundary of the bl.ck hol., set by its quantum l.ngth, the bl.ck hol. can obtain an arbitrary temperature. Bl.ck-body radiation is stil. present and fits as the source of the Universe’s missing energy. Support for this hypothesis is offered by showing that a stationary sol.tion to the bl.ck hol.’s l.ngth scal. is the same if derived from a quantum anal.sis in continuous time, a quantum anal.sis in discrete time, or a general.rel.tivistic anal.sis.

Entropy Rate of Thermal.Diffusion

The thermal.diffusion of a free particl. is a random process and generates entropy at a rate equal.to twice the particl.’s temperature, (in natural.units of information per second). The rate is cal.ul.ted using a Gaussian process with a variance of which is a combination of quantum and cl.ssical.diffusion. The sol.tion to the quantum diffusion of a free particl. is derived from the equation for kinetic energy and its associated imaginary diffusion constant;a real.diffusion constant (representing cl.ssical.diffusion) is shown to be . We find the entropy of the initial.state is one natural.unit, which is the same amount of entropy the process generates after the de-coherence time, .
