Comparative quantitative analysis of fruit oil from Hippophae rhamnoides(seabuckthorn) by qNMR, FTIR and GC–MS

Objective: To develop a qNMR method for quantitative analysis of triacylglycerols in fruit oil of Hippophae rhamnoides(seabuckthorn, SBT) and analyze commercial samples of SBT oils using GC–MS and ***: SBT fruit oil(IpHRFH) was extracted with hexane and the triglyceride(TAG) was isolated by vacuum liquid chromatography. Six different branded SBT oils purchased from e-commerce suppliers(Amazon) and in-house prepared SBT oil was analyzed by qNMR and fatty acyl composition of TAGs determined by using NMR. In-house oil was also analysed by GC–MS and FTIR ***: The qNMR results showed that the oil contained 80.3% of triacylglycerol(TAG). The SBT oil TAGs comprised of linolenate 6.6%, palmitoleate/oleate 65.4%, and total saturated fatty acyl chain including palmitate 28% as determined by qNMR. GC–MS analysis revealed that the major acyl functionalities present in the TAG were palmitoleic acid 36.5%, oleic acid 12.9%, palmitic acid 21.2%, and linoleic acid 18%. Of the six commercial samples analyzed, samples from only one supplier(SW) were fruit oil;All others were the seed oils or mix of fruit oil and seed oil. The labels for samples except for the SW did not indicate whether it was fruit oil or seed ***: The results suggest that SBT oil should be analyzed by combination of GC–MS, FTIR and qNMR for factual content of free fatty acid or TAGs, which are chemically different in nature and affect the quality of oil. GC–MS showed the content of omega free fatty acids after hydrolysis, while qNMR and FTIR showed the content of TAGs. The major acyl functionalities found in SBT fruit oil TAGs are palmitoleate/palmitate/oleate, while linoleate and linonelate make up a minor fraction. Furthermore,analysis of commercial samples showed discrepancies between label claims and actual content.

Bayesian and hierarchical Bayesian analysis of response - time data with concomitant variables

This paper considers the Bayes and hierarchical Bayes approaches for analyzing clinical data on response times with available values for one or more concomitant variables. Response times are assumed to follow simple exponential distributions, with a different parameter for each patient. The analyses are carried out in case of progressive censoring assuming squared error loss function and gamma distribution as priors and hyperpriors. The possibilities of using the methodology in more general situations like dose- response modeling have also been explored. Bayesian estimators derived in this paper are applied to lung cancer data set with concomitant variables.

Modeling and simulation of carbon nanotube field effect transistor and its circuit application

The carbon nanotube field effect transistor （CNTFET） is modelled for circuit application. The model is based on the transport mechanism and it directly relates the transport mechanism with the chirality. Also, it does not consider self consistent equations and thus is used to develop the HSpICE compatible circuit model. For validation of the model, it is applied to the top gate CNTFET structure and the MATLAB simulation results are compared with the simulations of a similar structure created in NanoTCAD ViDES. For demonstrating the circuit compatibility of the model, two circuits viz. inverter and SRAM are designed and simulated in HSpICE. Finally, SRAM performance metrics are compared with those of device simulations from NanoTCAD ViDES.

Spinal cord compression secondary to bone metastases from hepatocellular carcinoma

Bone metastases are rare in primary hepatocellular carcinoma （HCC）. Spinal cord compression （SCC） due to bone metastases occur commonly in patients with lung and breast carcinomas, and metastatic HCC is an unusual cause of SCC. Spinal cord compression is an oncologic emergency and treatment delays can lead to irreversible consequences. Thus, the awareness that SCC could be a potential complication of bone metastases due to HCC is of significance in initiation of early treatment that can improve the quality of life and survival of the patients, if diagnosed earlier. This paper describes four cases of primary HCC with varied manifestations of SCC due to bone metastases. The first patient presented primarily with the symptoms of bone pains corresponding to the bone metastases sites rather than symptoms of associated hepatic pathology and eventually developed SCC. The second patient, diagnosed as having HCC, developed extradural SCC leading to paraplegia during the course of illness, for which he underwent emergency laminectomy with posterior fixation. The third patient developed SCC soon after the primary diagnosis and had to undergo emergency laminectomy. post laminectomy he had good neurological recovery. The Fourth patient presented primarily with radicular pains rather than frank paraplegia as the first manifestation of SCC.

Neuroendocrine carcinoma of gallbladder: report of 2 cases

BACKGROUND: Neuroendocrine carcinoma of the gall- bladder is rare. Its best treatment is not known. METHODS: Two patients underwent surgery earlier: one for suspected cholecystitis and the other for cholelithiasis. Magnetic resonance cholangiopancreatography ( MRCp ) showed residual lesions in the livers. The two patients un- derwent revision surgery followed by chemotherapy. RESULTS; Both patients tolerated the second stage surgery well, which was followed by chemotherapy with paclitaxel, ifosphamide and cisplatin for 6 cycles. They were treated this way for 8 months and 12 months post treatment, re- spectively. CONCLUSIONS: A proper diagnosis of neuroendocrine carcinoma is made often after surgery. As it is a slow grow- ing tumor and not very chemotherapeutically, sensitive sur- gery offers the best local control.

Introduction:Injecting drug use is a public health concern due to its clinical,social,economic,and legal ***:(1)To evaluate the prevalence of infections associated with injecting drug use;and(2)To assess the social profile of substance users and high-risk behaviors among people who inject drugs(pWID)receiving opioid substitution therapy(OST).Materials and Methods:A cross-sectional study was conducted among 100 pWID who were deemed eligible using inclusion and exclusion *** were collected through an interviewer-administered structured questionnaire after obtaining informed written ***:The results revealed that 14%of pWID had human immunodeficiency virus(HIV),7%had tuberculosis,and 2%had hepatitis B virus(HBV).None of the pWID self-reported hepatitis C virus(HCV)***,71%of pWID were living on the streets(***),and 41%of pWID had a history of sharing needles with other users in the preceding 3 *** or single pWID had significantly increased risk of homelessness(χ^(2)=4.570;p=0.032)and reported high-risk sexual practices with commercial sexual partners in the preceding 3 months(χ^(2)=4.163;p=0.041).Homeless pWID had significantly increased frequency of injecting practices(p=0.020).Conclusion:Despite the higher global prevalence of HCV compared with HBV and HIV among pWID,HCV testing is not currently conducted at most OST centers in *** to free needles and syringes should be enhanced to reduce the morbidity associated with injecting drug use.

A 65-year-old man presented with bone pains and anemia. Skull X-ray revealed multiple osteolytic lesions. The pa- tient was evaluated for multiple myeloma but detailed workup revealed the diagnosis of primary hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with osteolytic bone metastases. Thus, bone metastases due to HCC, although rare, should be considered in patients presenting with bone pains due to os- teolytic lesions.

Ascaridole: A phytochemical of modern medicinal perspective

American wormseed oil, also known as Chenopodium ambrosioides oil, is obtained from the herbs of the genus Chenopodium which comprises more than 200 species and belongs to the geographical region of Asia, Europe, China, India, America and other *** has been traditionally used for digestive, respiratory, diabetes, uro-genital, nervous and vascular disorders and has antihelminthic, vermifuge, emmenagogue sedative, antipyretic, antirheumatic and abortifacient activities. Ascaridole is a bicyclic monoterpene commonly known as ascarisin or 1,4-epidioxy-p-menth-2-ene which have sedative, antifungal and pain-relieving properties. It is a potent inhibitor of Trypanosoma cruzi,plasmodium falciparum, and Leishmania amazonensis and is well known for its worm-expelling potential. Ascaridole was firstly isolated by a German pharmacist in the 1900's and at that time it was one of the best antihelmintics for the treatment of ascarids and hookworms in humans and other species like cats, dogs, horses and pigs. Ascaridole could be extracted by using a non-polar solvent hexane due to its very poor solubility in water. From the literature support, it has been proved that ascaridole have very high potential in the modern and other system of medicine for the treatment of various disorders. So on the basic of its uses, here we have collected and compiled all the data regarding its medicinal uses, pharmacological activities and analytical techniques of the ascaridole in the present review and expected that this review will be beneficial for the researcher in the field of medicine and other allied science.
