Regeneration carries the idea of regrowing partially or completely a missing ***,on the other hand,allows restoring the function of an existing but failing *** recognition that human lungs can both repair and regenerate is quite novel,the concept has not been widely used to treat *** present evidence that the human adult lung does repair and regenerate and introduce different ways to harness this *** types of lung stem cells are capable of proliferating and differentiating upon injury driving the repair/regeneration *** models,primarily in mice,combined with lineage tracing studies,have allowed the identification of these important *** of these cells,such as basal cells,broncho-alveolar stem cells,and alveolar type 2 cells,rely on fibroblast growth factor (FGF) signaling for their survival,proliferation and/or *** preclinical studies have shown the therapeutic benefits of FGFs,a recent clinical trial for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) using intravenous injection of FGF7 did not report the expected beneficial *** discuss the potential reasons for these negative results and propose the rationale for new approaches for future clinical trials,such as delivery of FGFs to the damaged lungs through efficient inhalation systems,which may be more promising than systemic exposure to *** this change in the administration route presents a challenge,the therapeutic promises displayed by FGFs are worth the effort.

Background: Gradients in local environmental characteristics may favour the abundance of species with particular traits, while other species decline, or favour species with different traits at the same time, without an increase in average species abundances. Therefore, we asked: do variations in species and traits differ along gradients of deadwood variables? Do species abundance and trait occurrence change with species richness within or between functional groups? Thus, we analysed the beetle assemblages of five forest sites located in Italy, along the Apennines ***: From 2012 to 2018 we sampled beetles and five deadwood types in 193 plots to characterise the deadwood gradient: standing dead trees, snags, dead downed trees, coarse woody debris, and stumps. We modelled beetle species relative abundances and trophic traits occurrences against the deadwood variables using joint species distribution ***: Out of 462 species, only 77 showed significant responses to at least one deadwood type, with a weak mean response across species. Trophic groups showed mostly negative responses to deadwood variables. Species abundance increased with species richness among sites only for phytophagous and saproxylophagous. Trait occurrence did not increase with species richness among sites, except for phytophagous and ***, trait occurrence changed significantly with species richness of several trophic groups within some *** found that increases in species richness do not result in decreases in species abundance of a given trophic group, but rather null or positive relationships were found suggesting low interspecific ***: Our findings suggest that in Mediterranean mountain forests there is still room for increasing the level of naturalness, at least for what concerns deadwood management. Clinical outcomes of non-operative management and clinical observation in non-angioembolised hepatic trauma: A systematic review of the literature

Purpose: Liver is the most frequently injured organ in abdominal trauma. Today non-operative management (NOM) is considered as the standard of care in hemodynamically stable patients, with or without the adjunct of angioembolisation (AE). This systematic review assesses the incidence of complications in patients who sustained liver injuries and were treated with simple clinical observation. Given the differences in indications of treatment and severity of liver trauma and acknowledging the limitations of this study, an analysis of the results has been done in reference to the complications in patients who were treated with AE. Methods: A systematic literature review searched "liver trauma" , "hepatic trauma" , "conservative management" , "non operative management" on MEDLINE (via PubMed), Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials databases, EMBASE, and Google Scholar, to identify studies published on the conservative management of traumatic liver injuries between January 1990 and June 2020. Patients with traumatic liver injuries (blunt and penetrating) treated by NOM, described at least one outcome of interests and provided morbidity outcomes from NOM were included in this study. Studies reported the outcome of NOM without separating liver from other solid organs;studies reported NOM complications together with those post-intervention;case reports;studies including less than 5 cases;studies not written in English;and studies including patients who had NOM with AE as primary management were excluded. Efficacy of NOM and overall morbidity and mortality were assessed, the specific causes of morbidity were investigated, and the American Association for the Surgery of Trauma classification was used in all the studies analysed. Statistical significance has been calculated using the Chi-square test. Results: A total of 19 studies qualified for inclusion criteria were in this review. Hilar cholangiocarcinoma is a biliary malignancy arising from the perihilar biliary tree,which is associated with poor oncological outcomes due to its aggressive biology,chemo-resistance and insidious onset[1].As stated by Di Martino et al.,the standard of care is radical resection,and during the last decades,there have been great efforts to improve survival of potentially resectable hilar cholangiocarcinoma,with surgery being the treatment associated with longer survival[2].However,radical resection still represents a challenging operation with high risk of intraoperative and postoperative complications.
