Numerical Prediction of Total Resistance Using Full Similarity Technique

model tests are often conducted by researchers in a real or a numerical towing tank to calculate residuary resistance of a ship with the aid of Froude similarity. Common ITTC-1957 formula is usually employed to calculate frictional resistance. As computer technologies develop over time, CFD tools are used for calculating total resistance of a ship at full scale without establishing any dynamic similarities. In this paper, both Froude and Reynolds similarities are numerically implemented to four different model scales by using virtual fluids. The total resistance at different Fr numbers calculated by the numerical study is validated against the experimental data of DTmB 5512 (L=3.048 m) model hull. The results show that establishing Froude and Reynolds similarities together in numerical simulation is possible in principle. To determine whether it has advantages for prediction of full-scale ship total resistance by employing this method, it is also examined the model scale with the same number of elements and Reynolds number of the full-scale ship. Results show that numerical calculation of total resistance for a full-scale ship in a model scale by defining virtual fluids has only slight advantages on the prediction of residuary resistance. Additionally, no advantage in the calculation of frictional resistance is observed.

AIm： To determine whether listening to music decreases the requirement for dosages of sedative drugs, patients＇ anxiety, pain and dissatisfaction feelings during colonoscopy and makes the procedure more comfortable and acceptable. mETHODS： Patients undergoing elective colonoscopy between October 2005 and February 2006 were randomized into either listening to music （Group 1, n = 30） or not listening to music （Group 2, n = 30）. Anxiolytic and analgesic drugs （intravenous midazolam and meperidine） were given according to the patients＇ demand. Administered medications were monitored. We determined their levels of anxiety using the State-Trait Anxiety Inventory Test form. Patients＇ satisfaction, pain, and willingness to undergo a repeated procedure were self-assessed using a visual analog scale. RESULTS： The mean dose of sedative and analgesic drugs used in group 1 （midazolam： 2.1 ± 1.4, meperidine： 18.1 ± 11.7） was smaller than group 2 （midazolam： 2.4 ± 1.0, meperidine： 20.6 ± 11.5）, but without a significant difference （P 〉 0.05）. The mean anxiety level in group 1 was lower than group 2 （36.7 ± 2.2 vs 251.0 ± 1.9, P 〈 0.001）. The mean satisfaction score was higher in group 1 compared to group 2 （87.8 ± 3.1 vs 58.1 ± 3.4, P 〈 0.001）. The mean pain score in group i was lower than group 2 （74.1 ± 4.7 vs 39.0 ± 3.9, P 〈 0.001）. CONCLUSION： Listening to music during colonoscopy helps reduce the dose of sedative medications, as well as patients＇ anxiety, pain, dissatisfaction during the procedure. Therefore, we believe that listening to music can play an adjunctive role to sedation in colonoscopy. It is a simple, inexpensive way to improve patients＇ comfort during the procedure.

AIm： To evaluate the role of leptin levels in the differentia diagnosis of ascites. mETHODS： Ascitic leptin, TNFα and serum leptin levels were measured in 77 patients with ascites （35 with malignancies, 30 cirrhosis and 12 tuberculosis）. Control serum samples were obtained from 20 healthy subjects. Leptin and TNFα levels were measured by EUSA. Body mass index （BmI） and percentage of body fat （BFm） by skin fold measurement were calculated for all patients and control groups. Peritoneal biopsy, ascites cytology and cultures or biochemical values were used for the diagnosis of patients. RESULTS： In patients with malignancies, the mean serum and ascites leptin levels and their ratios were significantly decreased compared to the other patient groups and controls. In tuberculosis peritonitis, ascitic fluid TNFα levels were significantly higher than malignant ascites and cirrhotic sterile ascites. BmI and BFm values did not distinguish between patients and controls. CONCLUSION： In patients with malignant ascites, levels of leptin and TNFα were significantly lower than in patients with tuberculous ascites.

AIm: To evaluate the therapeutic role of caffeic acid phenethyl ester (CAPE) in a rat model of ceruleaninduced acute pancreatitis (AP).mETHODS: Seventy male Wistar albino rats were divided into seven groups. Acute edematous pancreatitis was induced by subcutaneous cerulein injection (20 μg/kg) four times at 1-h intervals. CAPE (30 mg/kg) was given by subcutaneous injection at the beginning (CAPE 1 group) and 12 h after the last cerulein injection (CAPE 2 group). Serum amylase, lipase, white blood cell count, and tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α levels were measured, and pancreatic histopathology was assessed. RESULTS: In the AP group, amylase and lipase levels were found to be elevated and the histopathological evaluation showed massive edema and inflammation of the pancreas, with less fatty necrosis when compared with sham and control groups. Amylase and lipase levels and edema formation decreased signif icantly in the CAPE therapy groups (P ma was improved nearly completely (P = 0001). Inflammation and fatty necrosis were partially recovered by CAPE treatment. The pathologicalresults and amylase level in the placebo groups were similar to those in the AP group. White blood cell count and TNF-α concentration was nearly the same in the CAPE and placebo ***: CAPE may be useful agent in treatment of AP but more experimental and clinical studies are needed to support our observation of benef icial effects of CAPE before clinical usage of this agent.

Robotic Removal of a Hypogastric Splenic Cyst. A Case Report and Review of Literature

Background: Splenic cysts are infrequent findings in everyday medical practice. They are usually associated with nonspecific symptoms and the diagnosis is incidental. In most instances they are located in the left subcostal region, except for cases of huge sized cysts which can extend to the whole abdomen or pelvis. Aim: To present a case of a large hypogastric splenic cyst in a nulliparous woman, managed with robotic cystectomy. Review of the literature is included. Case: A 19-year-old woman, presented to the gynecologic department with a painless, palpable mass in the lower abdomen. Ultrasonography revealed a pelvic cystic mass, originally misdiagnosed for an ovarian cyst. Serum biomarkers and?β-hCG were negative. Definite diagnosis was made during explorative laparoscopy where the cyst was found to originate from the spleen. The surgery setup was changed from a lower to upper abdominal procedure. A robotically-assisted cystectomy was performed without concurrent splenectomy, and the splenic cavity was filled with an omental patch. There was no blood loss and the operation time was 163 minutes. Recovery was uneventful and there was no recurrence for a period of 16 months postoperatively. Conclusions: Pelvic splenic cysts are rare, and may be incidental findings during routine abdominal ultrasound scans. modern minimally invasive approaches such as robotic surgery offer safe and efficient alternatives to standard techniques.

金属切削加工中冷却润滑液的使用会增加加工成本,污染环境,而干切削和近干切削可以彻底消除或极大地减少冷却润滑液的使用,所以其成为许多单位研究热点。近来奥氏体不锈钢在各行业内应用越来越广,为了充分了解奥氏体不锈钢的切削性能,本文对奥氏体不锈钢0Cr18Ni9在传统乳化剂、干车削和微量润滑车削条件下进行切削试验,通过设计多因素正交试验方法,建立压电式测力系统测量切削过程中的动态平均切削力,在不同的冷却润滑方式下,比较背吃刀量、切削速度、进给量等切削用量对切削力的影响,得出各个因素的影响曲线图,从而揭示奥氏体不锈钢0Cr18Ni9在车削过程中的切削力变化情况,为实际的生产加工积累和提供基础数据。
