Water conservation in the Arab region: a m.st for survival

The Arab region covers an area over 13 m.llion square kilom.ters in size, with alm.st 90% of its area classified as arid or ex- trem.ly arid with very little precipitation, extrem.ly high evaporation and alm.st no vegetation cover. The region is classified in m.ny international reports as the poorest region in the world in the context of renewable water resources and critical water scarcity which hinders the socio-econom.ic developm.nt of m.ny countries in this region. The rapidly increasing population has reduced the per capita share of renewable water to less than the poverty line of 1,000 m./（capita＇a） and, in som. Arab countries, to less than the extrem. poverty line of 500 m./（capita＇a）. This has led to over-exploitation of non-renewable groundwater and desalination of salty water in m.ny countries with considerable costs and contam.nation of m.ny renewable sources. Atm.spheric processes re- sponsible for aridity in the Arab region are projected to intensify due to clim.te change, resulting in an alarm.ng decrease in pre- cipitation and increase in evaporation rates. m.ny concerned entities in the region consider water security as a key elem.nt for food security and ultim.tely political stability. Hence, various efforts have been exerted to identify key problem. and suggested solutions. The Arab Water m.nisters Council of the Arab League, as well as Reports of the Arab Forum.for the Environm.nt and Developm.nt （AFED） and the recom.endations of the 13th Regional m.eting of the Arab National Com.ittees of the Interna- tional Hydrological Program.e of UNESCO （niP）, have all m.de sim.lar recom.endations on the need to address the issues of water scarcity in the Arab region which will be further discussed in this paper. However, none of these reports focused on ＂Water Conservation＂ as an equally im.ortant action for coping with water scarcity in the region. There are m.ny definitions for ＂Water Conservation＂ in the scientific literature, including huge water savings

Proteintyrosine phosphatase 1B(PTP1B)inhibitionis consideredas a potentialtherapeuticfor the treatm.ntof cancer,type2 diabetes,*** presentwork,weinvestigatedtheanti-diabeticpotentialof8-hydroxydiospyrin(8-HDN)from.*** against the PTP1B *** showed significant inhibitory activity of PTP1B with an IC 50 value of 18.37±0.02μm.A detailed m.lecular docking study was carried out to analyze the binding orientation,binding energy,and m.chanism.of inhibition.A com.arative investigation of 8-HDN in the catalytic,as well as the allosteric site of PTP1B,was *** energy data showed that com.ound 8-HDN is m.re selective for the allosteric site and hence avoids the problem. associated with catalytic site *** inhibition m.chanism.of 8-HDN can be further investigated as an active lead com.ound against PTP1B by using in vitro and in vivo m.dels.

A general nonlinear m.them.tical m.del for the viral infection with hum.ral im.unity and two distributed delays is proposed and analyzed. Two bifurcation param.ters, the basic reproduction num.er, R0 and the hum.ral im.unity num.er, R1 are derived. We established a set of conditions on the general functions which are sufficient to determ.ne the global dynam.cs of the m.del. Utilizing Lyapunov functions and LaSalle＇s invariance principle, the global asym.totic stability of all equilibria of the m.del is obtained. An exam.le is presented and som. num.rical sim.lations are conducted in order to illustrate the dynam.cal behavior.

A highly reproducible and efficient in vitro shoot regeneration system.was developed in a potential m.dicinal plant, Albizia lebbeck using root explants. Root explants from.15 day-old-aseptic seedlings were cultured on m.rashige and Skoog （m.） m.dium.supplem.nted with different concentrations （0.5, 2.5, 5.0, 7.5 and 10.0 μm. of 6-Benzyladenine （BA）, Kinetin （Kn）, 2-Isopentenyl adenine （2-iP） singly as well as in com.ination with α-Naphthalene acetic acid （NAA）（0.1, 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 μm.. The highest rate of shoot m.ltiplication （16.0 ± 1.87 for the average shoot num.er and 5.16 ± 0.38 cm.for shoot length） was achieved on m. m.dium.supplem.nted with 7.5 μm.BA and 0.5 μm.NAA. The effects of m.dium.type, m.dium.strength, pH and subculture on shoot induction and proliferation were also tested. An average of 21.6±2.87 shoots per explants could be obtained following this protocol. Rooting was achieved on m.croshoots using half strength m. m.dium.with 2.0 μm.Indole-3-butyric acid （IBA） after four weeks of culture. The in vitro raised healthy plantlets were successfully established in earthen pots containing garden soil and grown in greenhouse with 〉80% survival rate.

The properties of the Legendre polynom.als are used to reduce the proposed problem. to the solution of non-linear system.of algebraic equations using Newton iteration m.thod. We give num.rical results to satisfy the accuracy and the applicability of the proposed schem.s.

Com.arative Efficacy of Different Herbicides for Weed m.nagem.nt and Yield Attributes in Wheat

Weed com.etes with crops for water, nutrients and light so weed infestation is one of the m.jor threats to crop. Present investigation was aim.d to asses the com.arative efficacy of different herbicides for weed m.nagem.nt in wheat crop under agro-clim.tic conditions of Pakistan. This experim.nt was laid out in a random.zed com.lete block design (RCBD) design with five replications. Different herbicides were used for weed m.nagem.nt in wheat crop. The post em.rgence application of herbicides included Aim.40 DF @ 0.02 kg a.i. ha-1, Agritop 500 GL-1 @ 0.43 kg a.i. ha-1, Isoproturon 50 WP @ 1 kg a.i. ha-1, Pum. super 75 EW @ 0.75 kg, Topik 15 WP @ 0.04 kg and Buctril super 60 EC @ 0.45 kg. For com.arison hand weeding and weedy check were also included. In each replication six treatm.nts of these six herbicides were kept. The significantly affected param.ters were fresh weed biom.ss (kg·ha-1), thousand grain weight (g), num.er of tillers m.2, weed control efficiency (%) and grain yield (kg·ha-1). Statistical analysis showed that m.xim.m.weed efficiency (84%) was recorded for Isoproturon 50 WP whereas m.nim.m.value (37%) was for Aim.40 DF. Sim.larly m.xim.m.num.er of tillers m.2 (250) was recorded for Isoproturon 50 WP and m.nim.m.(133) in weedy check. The herbicide Isoproturon 50 WP @ 1.0 kg a.i. ha-1 was applied at post em.rgence perform.d well and exhibited effectively weed control and better yield in wheat.

This paper is devoted to im.lem.nting the Legendre spectral collocation m.thod to introduce num.rical solutions of a certain class of fractional variational problem. (FVPs). The properties of the Legendre polynom.als and Rayleigh-Ritz m.thod are used to reduce the FVPs to the solution of system.of algebraic equations. Also, we study the convergence analysis. The obtained num.rical results show the sim.licity and the efficiency of the proposed m.thod.

Fractional differential equations have recently been applied in various areas of engineering, science, finance, applied m.them.tics, bio-engineering and others. However, m.ny researchers rem.in unaware of this field. In this paper, an efficient num.rical m.thod for solving the fractional Advection-dispersion equation (ADE) is considered. The fractional derivative is described in the Caputo sense. The m.thod is based on Chebyshev approxim.tions. The properties of Chebyshev polynom.als are used to reduce ADE to a system.of ordinary differential equations, which are solved using the finite difference m.thod (FDm.. m.reover, the convergence analysis and an upper bound of the error for the derived form.la are given. Num.rical solutions of ADE are presented and the results are com.ared with the exact solution.

Background:In regulating cupping therapy in saudi Arabia,there was a need to develop a system.for continuous m.dical and professional developm.nt for cupping *** current study aim.d to evaluate the effect of blended-internet continuing-m.dical-education(Cm.)on knowledge,knowledge retention,and intellectual skills in cupping providers com.ared with conventional,face-to-face ***:Participants were recruited from.a list of registered cupping providers(physicians,nurses,and physiotherapists trained and licensed to practice cupping therapy)for a random.zed,open,controlled *** providing inform.d consent,participants were allocated into three groups(classes).Classes were random.zed to(1)blended-internet Cm.(n=31);(2)conventional,face-to-face Cm.(n=31);and(3)control group receiving no intervention(n=32).Results:Posttest knowledge scores were increased to a greater extent by blended-internet Cm. training com.ared to conventional Cm.(P=0.002)or no training(Pm.larly,knowledge retention was significantly higher in the blended-internet Cm. group com.ared to the conventional Cm. group(P=0.011).Posttest skills scores im.ediately after the course were significantly higher in the blended-internet Cm. group com.ared to the conventional Cm. group(m.an difference:1.408,95%confidence interval:0.728–2.088,Pm.d to determ.ne if blended-internet Cm. is as effective as conventional,face-to-face Cm.,the results showed that cupping providers who participated in blended-internet Cm. had significantly higher scores for posttest knowledge,knowledge retention,and posttest intellectual skills.
