This paper reports on an investigation of the seismic response of base-isolated reinforced concrete buildings, which considers various isolation system parameters under bidirectional near-fault and far-fault motions. Three-dimensional models of 4-, 8-, and 12-story base-isolated buildings with nonlinear effects in the isolation system and the superstructure are investigated, and nonlinear response history analysis is carried out. The bounding values of isolation system properties that incorporate the aging effect of isolators are also taken into account, as is the current state of practice in the design and analysis of base-isolated buildings. The response indicators of the buildings are studied for near-fault and far-fault motions weight-scaled to represent the design earthquake （DE） level and the risk-targeted maximum considered earthquake （McER） level. Results of the nonlinear response history analyses indicate no structural damage under DE-level motions for near-fault and far-fault motions and for McER-level far-fault motions, whereas minor structural damage is observed under McER- level near-fault motions. Results of the base-isolated buildings are compared with their fixed-base counterparts. Significant reduction of the superstructure response of the 12-story base-isolated building compared to the fixed-base condition indicates that base isolation can be effectively used in taller buildings to enhance performance. Additionally, the applicability of a rigid superstructure to predict the isolator displacement demand is also investigated. It is found that the isolator displacements can be estimated accurately using a rigid body model for the superstructure for the buildings considered.

During mammalian fertilisation, the zona pellucida （ZP） matrix surrounding the oocyte is responsible for the binding of the spermatozoa to the oocyte and induction of the acrosome reaction （AR） in the ZP-bound spermatozoon. The AR is crucial for the penetration of the ZP matrix by spermatozoa. The ZP matrix in mice is composed of three glycoproteins designated ZP1, ZP2 and ZP3, whereas in humans, it is composed of four （ZP1, ZP2, ZP3 and ZP4）. ZP3 acts as the putative primary sperm receptor and is responsible for AR induction in mice, whereas in humans （in addition to ZP3）, ZP1 and ZP4 also induce the AR. The ability of ZP3 to induce the AR resides in its c-terminal fragment. O-linked glycans are critical for the murine ZP3-mediated AR. However, N-linked glycans of human ZP1, ZP3 and ZP4 have important roles in the induction of the AR. Studies with pharmacological inhibitors showed that the ZP3-induced AR involves the activation of the Gi-coupled receptor pathway, whereas ZP1- and ZP4-mediated ARs are independent of this pathway. The ZP3-induced AR involves the activation of T-type voltage-operated calcium channels （VOccs）, whereas ZP1- and ZP4-induced ARs involve both T- and L-type VOccs. To conclude, in mice, ZP3 is primarily responsible for the binding of capacitated spermatozoa to the ZP matrix and induction of the AR, whereas in humans （in addition to ZP3）, ZP1 and ZP4 also participate in these stages of fertilisation.

The Deccan Syneclise is considered to have significant hydrocarbon potential. However, significant hydrocarbon discoveries, particularly for Mesozoic sequences, have not been established through conventional exploration due to the thick basalt cover over Mesozoic sedimentary rocks. In this study, near-surface geochemical data are used to understand the petroleum system and also investigate type of source for hydrocarbons generation of the study area. Soil samples were collected from favorable areas identified by integrated geophysical studies. The compositional and isotopic signatures of adsorbed gaseous hydrocarbons （methane through butane） were used as surface indicators of pe- troleum micro-seepages. An analysis of 75 near-surface soil-gas samples was carried out for light hydrocarbons （c_1-c_4） and their carbon isotopes from the western part of Tapti graben, Deccan Syneclise, India. The geochemical results reveal sites or clusters of sites containing anomalously high concentrations of light hydrocarbon gases. High concentrations of adsorbed thermogenic methane （c1 518 ppb） and ethane plus higher hydrocarbons （∑c2＋ = 977 ppb） were observed. Statistical analysis shows that samples from 13% of the samples contain anomalously high concentrations of light hydrocarbons in the soil-gas constituents. This seepage suggests largest magnitude of soil gas anomalies might be generated/source from Mesozoic sedimentary rocks, beneath Deccan Traps. The carbon isotopic composition of methane, ethane and propane ranges are from 22.5‰to -30.2‰ PDB, -18.0‰ to 27.1‰,, PDB and 16.9‰-32.1‰ PDB respectively, which are in thermogenic source. Surface soil sample represents the intersection of a migration conduit from the deep subsurface to the surface connected to sub-trappean Mesozoic sedimentary rocks. Prominent hydrocarbon concentra- tions were associated with dykes, lineaments and presented on thinner basaltic cover in the study area, which probably acts as channel for the micro-seep

Background: Sympatric species adapt to, and temporally or geographically segregate access to similar limiting ***: We compared nesting habitat and diet affinities of six raptor species in central India between the years ***: A large composition of reptiles in the diet was characteristic for circaetus gallicus, Spilornis cheela and Elanus caeruleus, while Aquila fasciata, Falco chicquera and Nisaetus cirrhatus show a higher proportion of birds. Species with greatest similarity of diet were c. gallicus and S. cheela. considering the environmental characterization of areas where raptors built the nest, some species were ecologically closer than others. N. cirrhatus and S. cheela were related to the presence of water bodies, dry deciduous forest and evergreen forests, while E. caeruleus and c. gallicus preferred more open habitats. A. fasciata bred either on cliffs or trees, F. chicquera on trees or mobile towers, and the other four species built their nests exclusively in ***: We conclude that although there was overlap in diet and nesting ecology for a number of species, the geographical separation likely limits competition for resources.

Synthesis and Antimicrobial Activity of 2-Methyl-5-nitroaniline Derivatives： A Structure-Activity Relationship Study

A series of 2-methyl-5-nitroaniline derivatives, 5a--Sk and 6a--6f, were synthesized in order to determine their in vitro antimicrobial activity. The chemical structures of the synthesized compounds were confirmed by elemental analyses, UV-visible, FT-IR, 1H NMR and 13c NMR spectral studies. The structure-activity relationships of the synthesized compounds were also discussed. Among the synthesized compounds, 5f, 5d, 6b and 6e showed good antimicrobial activity compared to standard drugs.

Objective:To evaluate the protective effect of Pisonia aculeata(***) on thioacetamide induced hepatotoxicity in ***:Male Wistar rats were administered 250 or 500 mg/kg *** *** extract for 21 days and simultaneously administered thioacetamide(TAA) 50 mg/kg bw s.c.1 h alter the respective assigned treatments every 72 *** the end of all experimental methods,all the animals were sacrificed by cervical *** samples were *** was separated and analyzed for various biochemical ***:TAA induced a significant rise in aspartate amino transferase(AST),alanine amino transferase(ALT),alkaline phosphatase(ALP),total bilirubin,gamma glutamate transpeptidase(GGTP),lipid peroxidase(LPO)with a reduction of total protein,superoxide dismutase(SOD),catalase,glutathione peroxidase(GPx) and glutathione S-transferase(GST).Treatment of rats with different does of plant extract(250 and 500 mg/kg) significantly(Pctivity of the extract at a dose of 300 tug/kg was comparable to the standard drug,silymarin(50 mg/kg.p.o.).conclusions:It can be concluded that *** extract possesses a remarkable hepaloprolective and antioxidant activity against TAA induced *** research is required lo derive an optimal therapeutic dose.

It has been reported in the past literature that total traffic volume and passenger car volume are affected by snowfall and cold temperature, but trucks are not sig- nificantly affected. This paper aims to confirm that the distribution of truck types is not affected by winter weather conditions through combined statistical analysis in the framework of microscopic and macroscopic impact anal- ysis. A micro-level analysis was conducted to investigate the effect of snowfall and temperature on changes in truck type distribution. A macro-level analysis was also con- ducted to investigate the effect of the months （or seasons） on changes in truck type distribution. Truck traffic data were collected for 5 years at the weigh-in-motion site in Highway 2A, which is used for regional commuters near the city of Leduc, Alberta, canada. The trucks were sub- divided into straight unit truck, single trailer and multi trailer unit and then analyzed by applying a nonparametric chi-squared test combined with the binomial probability test. As a result of the nonparametric test, the truck type distribution was stable irrespective of the severity of winter weather conditions, which are microscopic factors such as snowfall and temperature, and was not influenced by changes in months and seasons, which are macroscopic factors.
