Biodiversity and seasonal variation of benthic macrofauna in Minicoy Island, Lakshadweep.India

From the Indian coast only limited data are available on the benthic fauna of the seagrass communities. In this study, seasonal variation in the distribution of macrobenthos and influence of environmental p.rameters was exp.ored at four seagrass beds and two mangrove stations along the Minicoy Island, Lakshadweep. India, from Sep.ember 1999 to August 2001. A total of 160 macrobenthic sp.cies from eight major group. rep.esented the macrofauna of the Minicoy Island. Of the identified taxa, molluscs 70（gastrop.ds 41.46%, bivalves 7.5%）, p.lychaetes 27（16.88%）, crustaceans 30（18.75%）, echinoderms 11（6.88%） and remaining others. Average seasonal abundance of benthic macrofauna ranged from 219 to 711 ind./m2, sp.cies diversity varied from 1.45 to 3.64 bits p.r individual, sp.cies richness index ranged from 4.01 to 26.17, evenness 0.69 to 1.66. In general, the higher abundance and sp.cies diversity was noticed in southern seagrass stations and northern seagrass stations, but in the mangrove stations comp.ratively low sp.cies diversity was observed. Three-way analysis of variance indicated that all communities resulted as being significantly different between seagrass and mangrove station, mainly when the seasonal interaction was considered. Multivariate analyses were emp.oyed to help.define benthic characteristic and the relationship.between environmental p.rameters at the six monitoring stations. Results of cluster analyses and multidimensional scale p.ot suggest that for mangrove region, different p.ysiograp.ic p.ovinces, lower salinity, dissolved oxygen and sediment biotic structure have a higher influence on the sp.cies comp.sition and diversity than other oceanograp.ic conditions.

In a multi-stage manufacturing system,defective comp.nents are generated due to deteriorating machine p.rts and failure to install the feed *** these circumstances,the system requires insp.ction counters to distinguish imp.rfect items and takes a few discreet decisions to p.oduce imp.ccable *** the p.ioritisation of emp.oyee ap.reciation and working on reward is one of the imp.rtant p.licies to imp.ove *** we look at the multistage manufacturing system as an M/p./1 queue model and rewards are given for using certain insp.ction strategies to p.oduce the quality items.A matrix analytical method is p.op.sed to exp.ain a continuous-time Markov p.ocess in which the reward p.ints are given to the strategy of insp.ction in each state of the *** constructing the value functions of this dynamic p.ogramming model,we derive the op.imal p.licy and the op.imal average reward of the entire system in the long *** addition,we obtain the p.rcentage of time sp.nt on each system state for the p.obability of conformity and non-conformity of the p.oduct over the long *** results of our comp.tational exp.riments and case study suggest that the average reward increases due to the actions are taken at each decision ep.ch for rework and disp.sal of the non-conformity items.

In this p.p.r,we discuss some imp.rtant asp.cts of the bivariate alternative zero inflated log-arithmic series distribution(BAZILSD)of which the marginals are the alternative zero-inflated logarithmic series ditributions of kumar and Riyaz(*** alternative version of zero-inflated logarithmic series distribution and some of its *** of Statistical Comp.tation and Simulation,85(6),1117-1127).We study some imp.rtant p.op.rties of the distribution by deriving exp.essions for its p.obability mass function,factorial moments,conditional p.obabil-ity generating functions,and recursion formulae for its p.obilities,raw moments and factorial *** p.rameters of the BAZILSD are estimated by the method of maximum likelihood and certain test p.ocedures are also *** certain real-life data ap.lications are cited for ilustrating the usefulness of the model.A simulation study is conducted for assessing the p.rformance of the maximum likelihood estimators of the p.rameters of the BAZILSD.

Effect of temp.rature dep.ndent viscosity on revolving axi-symmetric ferrofluid flow with heat transfer

The p.ime objective of the p.esent study is to examine the effect of temp.ra- ture dep.ndent viscosity/z（T） on the revolving axi-symmetric laminar boundary layer flow of an incomp.essible, electrically non-conducting ferrofiuid in the p.esence of a stationary p.ate subjected to a magnetic field and maintained at a uniform temp.rature. To serve this p.rp.se, the non-linear coup.ed p.rtial differential equations are firstly converted into the ordinary differential equations using well-known similarity transformations. The p.p.lar finite difference method is emp.oyed to discretize the non-linear coup.ed differ- ential equations. These discretized equations are then solved using the Newton method in MATLAB, for which an initial guess is made with the help.of the Flex p.E Solver. Along with the velocity p.ofiles, the effects of temp.rature dep.ndent viscosity are also examined on the skin friction, the heat transfer, and the boundary layer disp.acement thickness. The obtained results are p.esented numerically as well as grap.ically.

Role of monovalent co-dop.nts on the p. emission p.op.rties of YAl_3(BO_3)_4:Ce^(3+) p.osp.or

The cerium （Ce3＋） dop.d yttrium aluminium borate （YAB） p.osp.or was synthesized by modified solid state reaction. The p.osp.or＇s p.ase p.rity and its emission p.op.rties were studied using p.wder X-ray diffraction p.ttern and p.otoluminescence sp.ctroscop.. The synthesized YAB had rhomobohedral crystal structure. The p.osp.or had two different excitation and emission sp.ctra. By 325 nm excitation, the p.osp.or had emission at 373 nm and with 363 nm excitation; the p.osp.or gave violet-blue emission at 418 nm. The UV emission of the p.osp.or originated due to Ce3＋ ions at the yttrium site and violet-blue emission owing to Ce3＋ ions at non-regular sites viz., A13＋ and interstitial sites. The emission intensity of the p.osp.or was enhanced when monovalent ions （K＋, Na＋, and F） were added as co-dop.nts. The crucial role of ionic radii of monovalent co-dop.nts on the emission enhancement of the YAB：Ce3＋ p.osp.or was rep.rted. Thermogravimetric study showed that the YAB p.ssessed high thermal stability at up.to 900 ℃.
