Native of West Africa, Saba senegalensis belongs to the family of Apocynaceae, and is a wild plant that is mainly exploited in the diet. It grows mainly along riverbanks, in wooded savannah areas in humid areas, in gallery forests and in rocky ravines and hills. Saba senegalensis is a large woody liana with white latex, dark gray bark, can reach more than 40 m high and a trunk that can measure up to 47 cm in diameter. The fruit is a globose shell, 7 to 10 cm long, 6 to 8 cm wide. The leaves are opposite, elliptical, dark green in color, about 8 to 15 cm long and 4 to 6 cm wide. This fruit is characterized by its richness in antioxidant molecules especially vitamin C (480 mg/100 g) and total polyphenols (945.83 mg/100 g). The fruit contents 41.43 until 80% water with a low pH (2.24). In Senegal, the fruit is eaten as it or transformed into puree, nectar, syrup, canned etc. It is a plant that has enormous therapeutic virtues, from the fruit to the roots through the leaves, bark, and latex. Despite its high nutritional potential, its many therapeutic virtues and its economic potential, Saba senegalensis remains under-exploited. Further researches on the nutritional and therapeutic properties deserve to be conducted.

In the Saloum region of central-western Senegal, water needs are essentially met by tapping an underground aquifer associated with the sandy-clay formations of the Continental Terminal, in contact with both the ocean to the west and the highly saline waters of the Saloum River to the north. In this estuarine and deltaic zone with its very low relief, the hydraulic loads in the water tables are generally close to zero or even negative, creating a reversal of the natural flow and encouraging saline intrusion into this system, which makes it very vulnerable. This study concerns the implementation of a numerical model of saline intrusion to provide a better understanding of the vulnerability of the water table by analyzing the variability of the freshwater/saltwater interface. The modflow-2005 code is used to simulate saline intrusion using the SWI2 module, coupled with the GRASS (Geographic Resources Analysis Support System) software under the Linux operating system with the steep interface approach. The probable expansion of the wedge is studied in three scenarios, taking into account its position relative to the bedrock at 1 m, 5 m and 10 m. Simulations carried out under imposed potential and river conditions, based on variations in groundwater reserves using two effective porosity values, 10−1 and 10−2, show that the water table is highly vulnerable in the northwest sector. The probable expansion of the wedge increases as the storage coefficient decreases and is more marked with river conditions in the areas surrounding the Saloum River, reaching 6 km with a probability of 1. The probability of the wedge reaching a certain degree of expansion decreases from 1 to 0.5, and then cancels out as it moves inland. The probable position of the wedge is limited to 500 m or even 1 km depending on the corner around the coast to the southwest and in the southern zone. Objective: Describe the epidemiological, diagnostic, therapeutic and evolutionary profile of triple negative breast cancer at the Dakar Cancer Institute in Senegal. Patients and Methods: This was a retrospective study between January 1, 2011 and December 31, 2014. All patients with a triple negative molecular profile were included. The data were collected from the medical records of the patients. The data were entered and analyzed with SPSS edition 16 software under Windows 7. Results: Two hundred and twenty-five patients were selected. The mean age was 47.9 ± 12.5 years with extremes of 25 and 90 years. The main reason for consultation was dominated by the finding of a breast lump. The mean clinical tumor size was 8, mily:"">mily:Verdana;">54 cm with a large majority of T3-T4 tumors 26% and 63% respectively, lymph node involvement in one hundred and seventy-two cases (76.4%);twenty eight patients (12.4%) were metastatic from the outset. Non-specific invasive carcinoma was the most common histologic type (78.2%), and more than half of the patients (53.3%) had an aggressive tumor (Scarff-Bloom-Richardson grading III). The general objective of the work is to compare the effect of the addition of synthetic citric acid compared to the addition of natural fruit juice of Citrus aurantiifolia on the conservation of drink based on red chalice H. sabdariffa. The tests were carried out over a period of 5 weeks at 4°C and 37°C with seven batches of beverage samples prepared at the rate of a calyx/water ratio of 1/40 (kg·kg-1) and added respectively citric acid at 1, 2 and 4 g·L-1 and lemon juice at 10, 20 and 40 mL·L-1. The characterization of the different batches of beverages was carried out from day one. A follow-up of the residual anthocyanin content and the intensity of the red coloring were carried out over five weeks. The anthocyanin concentration was determined by the pH-differential method. The red color degradation index is determined based on the CIELAB color system (L*, a*, b* and L*). R and minitab 18 software was used for data processing. The results of the monitoring of the parameters showed that the concentration of 1 g AC L-1 retains 2.7 mg more of the anthocyanins than adding 10 mL JC L-1 and longer maintains red color when stored at 4°C and 37°C/5 weeks. The 2 g AC L-1 and 4 g AC L-1 ratios have the same effects as the addition of 20 and 40 mL of lemon juice, all accelerating the degradation of anthocyanins and the red color. After 5 weeks of storage at 37°C, the effect of the temperature combined with the increase in the acidity of the samples (2 to 4 g AC L-1 and 20 to 40 ml JC L-1), have accelerated the total disappearance of the red color on all samples.

metal trace elements (mTE) are among the most harmful micropollutants of natural waters. Eliminating them helps improve the quality and safety of drinking water and protect human health. In this work, we used mango kernel powder (mKP) as bioadsorbent material for removal of Cr (VI) from water. Uv-visible spectroscopy was used to monitor and quantify Cr (VI) during processing using the Beer-Lambert formula. Some parameters such as pH, mango powder, mass and contact time were optimized to determine adsorption capacity and chromium removal rate. Adsorption kinetics, equilibrium, isotherms and thermodynamic parameters such as ΔG˚, ΔH˚, and ΔS˚, as well as FTIR were studied to better understand the Cr (VI) removal process by mKP. The adsorption capacity reached 94.87 mg/g, for an optimal contact time of 30 min at 298 K. The obtained results are in accordance with a pseudo-second order Freundlich adsorption isotherm model. Finally FTIR was used to monitor the evolution of absorption bands, while Scanning Electron microscopy (SEm) and Energy Dispersive X-ray Spectroscopy (EDS) were used to evaluate surface properties and morphology of the adsorbent.

Aim: We endeavored to describe the epidemiological profile of prostatic cancer, and to evaluate its diagnostic and therapeutic aspects. Method: We conducted a descriptive retrospective study on the conformational radiotherapy of prostatic adenocarcinoma at the Dalal Jamm University Hospital, Senegal from June 2018 to December 2019. We included 62 consecutive patients. The average age of the patients was 68.9 years. The average consultation time was 7.6 months. Results: Symptom manifestation and high PSA triggered the diagnosis of cancer in 74.2% and 25.8% of patients, respectively. Symptoms: pollakiuria (72.3%), bone pain (8%) and erectile dysfunction (4.8%). The digital rectal examination: normal (33.8%), nodular (30.6%), induration (24.1%), and shielding (11.3%). The mean PSA level was 90.6 ng/ml. Histology: adenocarcinoma was the most common (98.6%). The Gleason score: 7 (19.4%). The majority of patients were in the high-risk group (70.9%) and 7 patients (11.2%) were metastatic at diagnosis. Therapy: first radical prostatectomy (20.9%), first-line curative radiotherapy (67.8%), adjuvant (21%) and palliative radiotherapy in 7 patients (11.2%): patients having received palliative radiotherapy had an estimated decline in symptoms of 80%. Hormone therapy was performed in 88.8% of patients, with average duration of 12.5 months. After a mean follow-up of 15 months, 59 patients were alive, including 45 cases (81.8%) in complete remission;3 patients with metastasis at the first visit (having received palliative radiotherapy) died. Context: Breast cancer affects more than 2 million women a year worldwide. Improved treatments have made it possible to increase survival rates with more and more patients having time to develop secondary locations. Nasosinus metastases from this cancer are rare. Two recently treated breast cancer patients developed metastases to the sphenoidal and maxillary sinuses. These cases gave rise to an examination of the incidence of this disease, its diagnosis, the therapeutic means envisaged and the fate of these patients. Method: We report the diagnostic and therapeutic data of two patients suffering from breast cancer and presenting metastases at the nasosinus level, with a focus on the interest of radiotherapy in palliative care. Results: The two patients aged 56 and 60 presented in the course of their breast cancer secondary localizations in the sphenoidal and maxillary sinus confirmed by endoscopy and histology. All the cases presented massive lesions associated with other secondary bone locations in particular. After local radiotherapy and systemic chemotherapy treatment, one patient died 5 months after her diagnosis and the other was alive 16 months later. Conclusion: Nasal and sinus metastases from breast cancer are rare and have a poor prognosis as disseminated disease, they do not respond well to conventional systemic therapies even if palliative radiotherapy allows local control.

Background: Radiation therapy is an essential treatment for rectal cancer. In 2018, Senegal experienced a transition from two-dimensional to three-dimensional radiotherapy (RC3D). We are evaluating for the first time the impact of this RC3D in the treatment of rectal cancer in Senegal. Objective: To describe the epidemiological, clinical and diagnostic profile of rectum cancer in Senegal, to list the different radiotherapy techniques used, to evaluate the response as well as the outcome of patients. Method: We conducted a retrospective descriptive study on preoperative radio-chemotherapy of rectal adenocarcinoma at the Dalal Jamm University Hospital in Dakar from July 2018 to June 2020. Resultsmily:Verdana;">: The 42 patients included, including 18 men and 24 women (Sex Ratio: 0.75), had an average age of 55.9 years. We found a family history of CRC (Colorectal cancer) in 7 cases and smoking in 5 cases. The clinical signs were dominated by rectal bleeding, noted in 92.8% of cases, with or without pain, and changes in transit in 57.1% and 50% respectively. The tumor was perceptible on digital rectal examination (DRE) in 76.1%. All patients had undergone endoscopy, which revealed a budding aspect in 69% of cases. The preferred location was the lower rectum (59.5%). The predominant histological type was liberkhunian adenocarcinoma (85.7%). Prevalence and the Risk Factors of Renal Insufficiency in the City of Saint Louis in Senegal

Background: The true scale of renal insufficiency (RI) in Sub-Saharan Africa remains unknown due to the lack of national registries. The aim of this study is to describe the epidemiological characteristics of renal insufficiency in urban areas in Saint Louis of Senegal. materials and methods: It is an observational, cross-sectional and descriptive study. The study was conducted during 27 days starting from 3 to 30 may 2010. All senegalese residents of Saint Louis (older than 15 years at the time of the study) in whom creatinine clearance was performed were included in the study. The sampling method used was a systematic random sampling, stratified cluster. The survey was designed by an expert comitee based on STEPS survey of the World Health Organization. RI was defined as a glomerular filtration rate (GFR) 2. Results: Among 1424 people initially selected a final selection of 1416 was made. The sex ratio was 0.45. The mean age was 43.4 ± 17.8 years. The overall prevalence of renal insufficiency according to mDRD (modification of diet in renal disease) formula was 181 cases or 12.7%. The mean age of the people with renal insufficiency was 47.6 ± 17.4 years. Renal insufficiency was correlated to height blood pressure (p = 0.01) and Physical inactivity (p = 0.0001). The prevalence of renal insufficiency was higher in diabetics (71.4%) and obese people (66.6%) than in non-diabetics (64.9%) and non-obese people (56.5%), although the difference was not statistically significant. Dyslipidemia and smoking were not correlated to the risk of occurrence of IR. Conclusions: This study reports the increasing magnitude of RI and its risk factors in the city of Saint Louis in Senegal. It is imperative to establish à national prevention strategies to avoid the dizzying growth of this scourge.
