Induction of Tolerance to Fusarium Wilt and Defense-Related Mechanisms in the Plantlets of Susceptible Berangan Banana Pre-Inoculated with Pseudomonas sp.(UPMP3) and Burkholderia sp.(UPMB3)

This study is aimed at assessing the ability of two endophytic bacteria originally isolated from healthy oil palm roots, Pseudomonas sp. （UPMP3） and Burkholderia sp. （UPMB3） to induce resistance in susceptible Berangan banana against Fusarium oxysporum race 4 （FocR4）. Increased accumulation of resistance-related enzymes such as peroxidase （PO）, phenylalanine ammonia lyase （PAL）, lignithioglycolic acid （LTGA）, and pathogenesis-related （PR） proteins （ehitinase and β-1,3-glucanase） has been observed in plantlets treated with endophytic bacteria UPMP3 and UPMB3 singly or as mixture under glasshouse conditions. Pre-inoculation of banana plantlets with UPMP3 showed a significant reduction in Fusarium wilt incidence 72 d after challenged inoculation with FocR4. UPMB3 was less effective in suppressing Fusarium wilt compared to UPMP3, whereas, the mixture of both endophytes showed an intermediate effect. Based on these results, it is concluded that UPMP3 could be a promising biological control agent that can trigger resistance against Fusarium wilt in susceptible Berangan banana.

The aims of this study are to determine the effect of Sabah ragi on food waste and dry leaves composting as well as to compare the composting performance from a previous study that had no addition of Sabah *** composting process was conducted using an in-vessel passive aerated bioreactor with turning every 3 days for 40 *** on the physiochemical analysis,the stability and maturity of the compost were *** such as temperature,total organic carbon,moisture content,pH,conductivity,and C/N were *** the composting process,the highest temperature of 54.2℃ and the highest heat generation rate per initial mass of compost dry matter of 4098 kJ kg^(-1) day^(-1) was achieved on day ***,when compared to previous studies,this study achieved a faster thermophilic phase(≥45℃),a longer thermophilic period(4 days),and a higher cumulative *** kinetic analysis was performed based on the TOC profile and evaluated using coefficient correlation(R^(2)).In this study,application of the second-order model resulted in good *** pathogen levels and higher nitrogen content were detected in the final compost,while some of the nutrients were not in the recommended *** estimated ragi cost of RM 1.22 was required for every 1 kg of compost with a selling price of RM 6.00/kg of compost.

Mortar-Pestle and Microwave Assisted Regioselective Nitration of Aromatic Compounds in Presence of Certain Group V and VI Metal Salts under Solvent Free Conditions

Solvent – free Mortar-pestle (grinding) and microwave-assisted nitration reactions (MWANR’s) underwent smoothly in the presence of group V and VI metal salts with high regio-selectivity for anilides, moderately- and non-activated aro-matic compounds. The reactions were conducted under solvent-free conditions, which afforded good to excellent yields. The observed reaction times in MW assisted conditions are in the range of only few minutes.

Ultrasonic and microwave-assisted practical methods have been developed for the O-alkylation of aryl (β-naphthols) and Heteroaryl (hydroxy pyridines) in aqueous surfactant media in good to excellent yields. The developed methods are simple, efficient, economical and environmentally safe. Our novel methods describe a set of green methods to Wil-liamson synthesis.

An efficient and greener protocol for the synthesis of 1-halo-naphthols by the action of hydrogen peroxide and alkali metal halides in aqueous micellar media is been described in the present work. This is an environmentally clean and safe procedure, which involved insitu generation of the active halogen in presence of alkali halides. Cationic surfactants such as cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide (CTAB) and cetyltrimethylammoniumchloride (CTAC) were found to facilitate efficiency of halogenation in aqueous media.

Ultrasonically Assisted Regioselective Nitration of Aromatic Compounds in Presence of Certain Group V and VI Metal Salts

Ultrasonically assisted nitration reactions (USANR) with anilides, moderately activated and non-activated aromatic compounds underwent smoothly and afforded good yields of products with high regio selectivity. Observed longer reaction times (6 - 8 hrs.) in metal catalyzed reactions reduced to (1 - 2 hrs.) under sonication. When ortho position is blocked para derivatives are obtained, and ortho nitro products are obtained when para position is blocked. In case of USANR of aromatic carbonyl and related compounds the effect of sonication is much more effective. The reactions could be completed only in few minutes.
