The chitin is extracted from the cuttlebone of S. inermis and the mineral contents are predictable. The structure and degree of deacetylation of extracted cuttlebone chitin is dogged through Fourier Transform Infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy. The extracted cuttlebone chitin is used as the substrate for the production of chitinase from Vibrio sp. The extra cellular proteins are concentrated by ammonium sulphate precipitation, dialysed and then purified by using gel (sephadex G-100) chromatography. Among the 40 fractions, only two fractions (active fractions) showed maximum absorbance at 280 nm, which are pooled, dialysed and free-dried. The enzyme activity (0.104 μmoles/ml) and molecular weight (50 - 60 kDa) of purified chitinase is also determined through SDS- PAGE. The optimal condition for chitinase activity is pH between 6.0 - 6.5 and 45℃.

In this work an attempt was made to minimize the NOx emission of a crude rice bran oil methyl ester (CRBME) blend with less sacrifice on smoke density and brake thermal efficiency. Three factors namely fuel injection timing, percentage EGR and fuel injection pressure were chosen as the influencing factors for the set objective. Experiments were designed by employing design of experiments method and Taguchi’s L9 orthogonal array was used to test the engine. MRSN ratio was calculated for the response variables and the optimum combination level of factors was obtained simultaneously using Taguchi’s parametric design. ANOVA was employed to analyze the variance of MRSN and the most influencing factor for the set objective was taken from the ANOVA table. Obtained combination was confirmed experimentally and significant improvement was observed in the response variables.

The slagging/fouling due to the accession of fireside deposits on the steam boilers decreases boiler efficiency and availability which leads to unexpected shut-downs. Since it is inevitably associated with the three major factors namely the fuel characteristics, boiler operating conditions and ash behavior, this serious slagging/fouling may be reduced by varying the above three factors. The research develops a generic slagging/fouling prediction tool based on hybrid fuzzy clustering and Artificial Neural Networks (FCANN). The FCANN model presents a good accuracy of 99.85% which makes this model fast in response and easy to be updated with lesser time when compared to single ANN. The comparison between predictions and observations is found to be satisfactory with less input parameters. This should be capable of giving relatively quick responses while being easily implemented for various furnace types.

This paper proposes an effective Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT) controller being incorporated into a solar Photovoltaic system supplying a Brushless DC (BLDC) motor drive as the load. The MPPT controller makes use of a Genetic Assisted Radial Basis Function Neural Network based technique that includes a high step up Interleaved DC-DC converter. The BLDC motor combines a controller with a Proportional Integral (PI) speed control loop. MATLAB/Simulink has been used to construct the dynamic model and simulate the system. The solar Photovoltaic system uses Genetic Assisted-Radial Basis Function-Neural Network (GA-RBF-NN) where the output signal governs the DC-DC boost converters to accomplish the MPPT. This proposed GA-RBF-NN based MPPT controller produces an average power increase of 26.37% and faster response time.

Surgical embolectomy is widely used to treat massive or submassive pulmonary thromboembolism and chronic thromboembolic pulmonary hypertension. [1]-[3] However, recently a new minimally invasive transvenous approach to clot evacuation using the AngioVac aspiration system (Vortex Medical, Norwell, Massachusetts) such as AngioVac aspiration system has been successfully used for retrieval of right atrial clot [4]-[6]. This is the first case report describing evacuation of trans-septal thrombus using an AngioVac aspiration system utilizing transesophageal echocardiograph (TEE) and fluoroscopic guidance. This case report also highlights the potential complications involved in AngioVac system which were readily diagnosed using TEE. We present a 66-year-old Caucasian female with a right atrial thrombus extending into left atrium through a patent for ovale (PFO) defect and a pulmonary artery thrombus. She underwent suction evacuation with an AngioVac aspiration system under TEE and fluoroscopic guidance. The right atrial thrombus extending into left atrium through a PFO was successfully evacuated through the PFO. However, the evacuation of the clot in the pulmonary artery was complicated by a rupture of the right ventricle requiring emergent sternotomy, cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) and transient extracorporeal mechanical oxygenation (ECMO) support. The patient rapidly improved post-operatively and was discharged from hospital. Echocardiographic documentation of right heart thrombus and pulmonary emboli has poor prognostic implications. This report delineates the utility of TEE for visualization of cannula placement and real time aspiration of clots through the cannula. Potential complications associated with this technique are mechanical dislodge of thrombus from its attachment with subsequent embolization and rupture of cardiac chambers. Discrete cosine transform (DCT) is frequently used in image and video signal processing due to its high energy compaction property. Humans are able to perceive and identify the information from slightly erroneous images. It is enough to produce approximate outputs rather than absolute outputs which in turn reduce the circuit complexity. Numbers of applications like image and video processing need higher dimensional DCT algorithms. So the existing architectures of one dimensional (1D) approximate DCTs are reviewed and extended to two dimensional (2D) approximate DCTs. Approximate 2D multiplier-free DCT architectures are coded in Verilog, simulated in Modelsim to evaluate the correctness, synthesized to evaluate the performance and implemented in virtexE Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) kit. A comparative analysis of approximate 2D DCT architectures is carried out in terms of speed and area.

This project proposes a novel dual-input matrix converter (DIMC) which is used to integrate the output of the wind energy to a power grid. The proposed matrix converter is developed based on the traditional indirect matrix converter under reverse power flow operation mode, but with its six-switch voltage source converter replaced by a nine-switch configuration followed by the current source inverter (CSI). Matrix electric power conversion topologies and their switch functions are flexible and are used for specific applications. With the additional three switches, the proposed DIMC can provide six input terminals, which make it possible to integrate two independent AC sources from two independent wind turbines into a single grid tied power electronics interface. Commanded currents can be extracted from the two input sources to the grid. The proposed PI control and modulation schemes guaranteed sinusoidal input and output waveforms as well as reduced THD. The simulation results are provided to validate the effectiveness of the proposed control and modulation schemes for the proposed converter.

A comparative study is done in regards to the performance of the popular Perturb and Observe algorithm and the Genetic Assisted-Radial Basis Function-Neural Network (GA-RBF-NN) algorithm, both incorporating the Interleaved Boost converter. The Perturb and Observe method (P&O) is inarguably the most commonly used algorithm as its advantages pertaining to its ease in implementation and simplicity enable to track the Maximum Power Point (MPP). However, it is absolutely unreliable when subjected to rapidly fluctuating irradiation and temperature levels. More importantly, the system has the tendency to swing back and forth about the Maximum Power Point without reaching stability. At this juncture, the implementation of the Genetic-Assisted Radial Basis Function (GA-RBF) algorithm helps the system achieve MPP at a shorter time when compared to the Perturb and Observe technique. The ever reliable and robust Levenberg-Marquardt algorithm is included along with the MPPT controller that minimizes the Mean Square Error (MSE) and aids in faster training of the neural network. This PV system drives a brushless DC motor (BLDC), employing rotor position sensors.
