Exploring the Synergy: Experimental and Theoretical Investigation of Steel and Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) Reinforced Slab Incorporating Alccofine and M-Sand

Introduction: This study investigates the Experimental and Theoretical Investigation of Steel and Glass Fiber Reinforced Polymer (GFRP) Reinforced Slab Incorporating Alccofine and M-sand. Objective: Specific objectives include evaluating the mechanical properties and structural behaviour of steel and GFRP-reinforced one-way slabs and comparing experimental and theoretical predictions. Methods: Four different mix proportions were arrived at, comprising both conventional concrete and Alccofine-based concrete. In each formulation, a combination of normal river sand and M-sand was utilized. Results: Concrete with Alccofine exhibits superior mechanical properties, while M-sand incorporation minimally affects strength but reduces reliance on natural sand. GFRP-reinforced slabs display distinct brittle behaviour with significant deflections post-cracking, contrasting steel-reinforced slabs’ gradual, ductile failure. Discrepancies between experimental data and design recommendations underscore the need for guideline refinement. Conclusion: Alccofine and M-sand enhance concrete properties, but reinforcement type significantly influences slab behaviour. GFRP-reinforced slabs, though exhibiting lower values than steel, offer advantages in harsh environments, warranting further optimization.

A Two-stage Single-phase Grid-connected Solar-PV System with Simplified Power Regulation

This study focuses on the design and development of a simplified active power regulation scheme for a two-stage single-phase grid-connected solar-PV(SPV)system with maximum power point(MPP)*** aims to formulate and test an improvised new control scheme to estimate the real-time MPP of the PV panel and operate only at either the MPP or on the right-hand side(RHS)of the PV characteristics of the panel.A simple active power regulatory control scheme was formulated to provide frequency control services to a single-phase grid without using an energy storage *** plant operator provides the reserve fraction as the input for the active power regulation *** any time,the reserve fraction is used to determine the magnitude of the reference power to be extracted from the PV panel for injection into the grid.A simple PI controller was used to track the calculated reference *** different modes of operation of the regulatory scheme are presented in *** the above control schemes are integrated and implemented through appropriate switching of the DC-DC converter *** DC-AC converter maintains the DC link voltage and unity power factor at the single-phase grid *** proposed control schemes were tested on a 250 Wp solar panel feeding power to a 230 V,50 Hz single-phase grid through a two-stage *** entire scheme was modeled using the Matlab/Simulink platform,and the same was validated by hardware experimentation using Chroma Solar Simulator and NI myRIO controller under varied irradiation,temperature,and reserve *** simulation and hardware results are compared and reported.

Analysis and Design of Derivative Free Filters against Derivative Based Filter on the Simulated Model of a Three Phase Induction Motor

Recursive state estimation methods have aroused substantial attraction among many researchers and in particular, the drives research fraternity has shown increased interest in recent years. State estimators that surrogate direct measurements play an integral part in the operation of modern a.c. drives. Their robustness and accuracy are very much decisive for the performance of the drive. In this paper, a comparative analysis of the three nonlinear filtering schemes to estimate the states of a three phase induction motor on the simulated model is presented. The efficacy of Ensemble Kalman Filter (EnKF) against the traditional Jacobian based Filter or Extended Kalman Filter (EKF) and almost forbidden, hitherto least-attempted Unscented Kalman Filter (UKF) is very much exemplified. Theoretical aspects and comparative simulation results are investigated comprehensively with respect to three different scenarios viz., step changes in load torque, speed reversal, and low speed operation. Also, “Monte Carlo Simulation” runs have been exploited very extensively to show the superior practical usefulness of EnKF, by which the minimum mean square error (MMSE), which is often used as the performance index, ostensibly gets mitigated very radically by the proposed approach. The results throw light on alleviating the intrinsic intricacies encountered in EKF in parlance with the observer theory.

Motivated and stimulated especially by the work of Xu et al. [1], in this paper, we introduce and discuss an interesting subclass of analytic and bi-univalent functions defined in the open unit disc U. Further, we find estimates on the coefficients and for functions in this subclass. Many relevant connections with known or new results are pointed out.

Classification of Normal and Pathological Voice Using SVM and RBFNN

The identification and classification of pathological voice are still a challenging area of research in speech processing. Acoustic features of speech are used mainly to discriminate normal voices from pathological voices. This paper explores and compares various classification models to find the ability of acoustic parameters in differentiating normal voices from pathological voices. An attempt is made to analyze and to discriminate pathological voice from normal voice in children using different classification methods. The classification of pathological voice from normal voice is implemented using Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Radial Basis Functional Neural Network (RBFNN). The normal and pathological voices of children are used to train and test the classifiers. A dataset is constructed by recording speech utterances of a set of Tamil phrases. The speech signal is then analyzed in order to extract the acoustic parameters such as the Signal Energy, pitch, formant frequencies, Mean Square Residual signal, Reflection coefficients, Jitter and Shimmer. In this study various acoustic features are combined to form a feature set, so as to detect voice disorders in children based on which further treatments can be prescribed by a pathologist. Hence, a successful pathological voice classification will enable an automatic non-invasive device to diagnose and analyze the voice of the patient.

Reactive oxygen species induced oxidative stress, neuronal apoptosis and alternative death pathways

Reactive oxygen species (ROS) are produced as a byproduct of cellular metabolic pathways and function as a critical second messenger in a variety of intracellular signaling pathways. The excessive intracellular generation of ROS on the other renders a cell oxidatively stressed. This involvement of ROS in numerous diseases has been documented and at different phases of the apoptotic pathway such as induction of mitochondrial permeability transition and release of mitochondrial death amplification factors, activetion of intracellular caspases and DNA damage has been clearly established. Cell death by apoptosis is a part of normal development and maintenance of tissue homeostasis. Polychlorinated biphenyls, one of the environmental pollutants which are widely used in electrical industries and lipophilic and resistant to biological decomposition accumulate through food chain. They are developmental neurotoxicants which induce neuronal apoptosis. Our studies proved that oxidative stress is induced promoting LPO and a decrease in all the antioxidant enzymes in testis, epididymis, ventral prostate, seminal vesicles, liver, kidney and brain regions. Neuronal damages were observed in all the brain regions after PCB exposure. PCB increased caspase8 mRNA/protein expression in hippocampus of adult rats. This upregulation results in Fas-FasL mediated induction of hippocampal apoptosis. Performin/granzyme induced apoptosis is the main pathway used by cytotoxic lymphocytes to eliminate virus-infected or transformed cells. The production of ROS is greatly increased during reperfusion phase when oxygen becomes available and the mitochondrial respiratory chain is impaired. Furthermore, this is exacerbated by reduced antioxidant defenses.
