Viral nervous necrosis(VNN)has emerged to become a major problem in the culture of larval and juvenile marine fish *** phytochemicals isolated from commonly available medicinal plants are often screened for their efficacy in controlling fish viral *** of newer viral strains and resistance to existing antiviral drugs are problems currently as-sociated with treatment of VNN,which necessitates looking for alternate sources for effective antiviral *** aim of the present study was to screen antiviral potential of gymnemagenol(C30H50O4)previously extracted from leaves of Gymnema *** fish nodavirus,grouper nervous necrosis virus(GNNV)in infected Sahul Indian Grouper Eye(SIGE)cell lines were used to study the antiviral activity of gymnemagenol under in vitro *** susceptibility of the virus to gymnemagenol was confirmed by measuring the viral titre(TCID50 mL?1)in virus-infected SIGE cells every 24 *** at 20 μg mL?1 inhibited the prolifera-tion of GNNV to 53% at the end of the 6th d by inhibiting the proliferation of GNNV-infected SIGE *** viable SIGE cells were reduced to 47% as determined by 3-(4,5-Dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide(MTT)*** viral titre(TCID50 mL?1)was also reduced to log 2.8 at the end of the 7th d in gymnemagenol-treated SIGE cells after inoculated with GNNV when compared to untreated control SIGE cell viral titre(log 4.1).Based on our results it can be concluded that gymnemagenol could be used as an antiviral agent against GNNV infection.

Context: Positron emission tomography is a nuclear medicine imaging that deals with physiological function using radioisotopes. With the most PET (Positron Emission Tomography) scanners in integration with the CT scanners of late, this technology has registered phenomenal growth. The small amount of radioactive material is called Radiotracers. Objective: Like 18F- Fluro-deoxy-2-glucose has widely used. In this article, the author introduced clinical applications of PET out of 25 patients who studied hypermetabolic lesions in lymph nodes. Methods: PET imaging is coincidence imaging which is different from the other imaging technique PET image formed from multiple rings of detector crystals. Each decay positron travel in tissue annihilation reaction is going on. FDG is the most commonly used radiotracer to detect and stage various types of malignancies. Result: The field of PET/CT imaging cares for many oncology patients. PET improved localization of malignant lesions. It improved staging biopsy and therapy. Conclusion: Finally, studies to data showed 4% to 10% improvement in the overall accuracy of staging/restaging in lesions. If we use Monte Carlo simulation, OLINDA/EXM software may improve further with widely used.

OIA （optical image analysis） has traditionally been used for reliable identification of different iron oxides and oxyhydroxides in iron ore. The automated CSIRO OIA system Mineral 4/Recognition 4 was created for rapid mineral and textural charaeterisation of iron ore providing identification of different minerals and different morphologies. The technique has further been applied to processed iron ore products such as iron ore sinter to determine key parameters such as porosity, different morphologies of hematite （primary and secondary）, and different morphologies of SFCA （silicon ferrite of calcium and alumininm）. Application of textural identification has recently been extended to coke characterisation where the software gives comprehensive characterisation of porosity, IMDC （inert material derived components）, RMDC （reactive material derived components） and the boundaries between IMDC and RMDC. The software also has many unique features needed for iron ore research including characterisation of large objects like pellets and ore lumps; automated gangue （including quartz） identification; automated particle separation; multiple image set processing and on-line measurements. All these features make the Mineral 4/Recognition 4OIA system a unique, reliable, industry/research focused tool for ore, sinter, pellet and coke characterisation.

Low serum vitamin D among community-dwelling healthy women in Sri Lanka

Background: Although hypovitaminosis D is prevalent among healthy adults in Asia and other regions, available data among Sri Lankans are not consistent with this finding. We studied vitamin D level among healthy community-dwelling women and examined its effects on parathyroid hormone (PTH) level and bone mineral status. Methods: Females of 20-40 years (n = 434) who were employed in southern Sri Lanka were recruited to the study. Bone mineral density and content (pBMD and pBMC) of the middle phalanx of the middle finger of the non-dominant hand were measured in all subjects and 5.0 ml of venous blood was collected from each subject after an overnight fast for biochemical assessment of serum vitamin D, parathyroid hormone and total alkaline phosphatase. Results: Mean (SD) pBMD of the women studied was 0.493 (0.060) g/cm2 and pBMC was 1.49 (0.28) g. Severe vitamin D deficiency (jects, whereas 19.1% subjects had moderate (12.5-25.0 nmol/L) and 15.7% had mild (25.1 -35.0 nmol/L) vitamin D deficiency. Serum vitamin D showed significant positive correlations with pBMD (r = 0.13, p = 0.008) and pBMC (r = 0.12, p = 0.01). In regression analysis, vitamin D showed a positive association with pBMD (regression coefficient 0.0003, SEM 0.0001, p = 0.007). Conclusions: Vitamin D insufficiency/deficiency is prevalent among healthy young and middle-aged women in this study group selected from southern Sri Lanka. The accompanying rise of PTH indicates the biological significance of low vitamin D level. The negative effects observed on bone mineral status suggest the clinical importance of this finding.

Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) are used to sense certain parameters in an environment, manipulate the acquired data and transmit/receive the information in an intra or inter communication network. Innovative researches in WSNs have resulted in the increase of application scenarios, which, at a time instant, were not even well-thought-of to be automated by WSNs. With this advent, it becomes necessary to customize sensor nodes depending on node specific characteristics and the deployment environment. Challenges for designing a WSN depend on the scenario in which it is implemented. Commercially available wireless motes are mostly generalized for usage in most of the applications. This survey work aims to provide an insight on the various wireless motes available in the market. This will enhance future researchers to select wireless modules which might be most suitable for their application needs. Various parameters related to the technical and implementation characteristics of WSNs were considered in this survey. This survey also concentrates with the survey on individual RF modules based on certain parameters like frequency of operation, transmission power, receiver sensitivity, interface mechanism, data rate, active, sleep & power-down current consumptions, range and cost involved.

Assessment of AMBR<sup>TM</sup>as a model for high-throughput cell culture process development strategy

The development and delivery of high quality therapeutic products necessitates the need for highthrough-put (HTP) process development tools. Traditionally, these works requires a combination of shake flask and small-scale stirred tank bioreactor (STR) which are labor and resource intensive and time-consuming. Here we demonstrate a strategy for rapid and robust cell culture process development by evaluating and implementing the use of a new HTP disposable micro bioreactor (MBR) called AMBRTM system (Advanced Microscale Bioreactor) that has the capabilities for automated sampling, feed addition, pH, dissolved oxygen (DO), gassing and agitation controls. In these studies the performance of two monoclonal antibody (MAb) producing cell lines (MAb1 and MAb2) was evaluated both in the AMBR system and 3-L STR. We demonstrated that cell culture performance (growth and viability, production titer and product quality) were similar in both vessel systems. Furthermore, process control and feed optimization were demonstrated in an additional cell line (MAb3) in the disposable MBR and its performance confirmed at STR scale. The results indicate that the AMBR system can be used to streamline the process development effort and facilitate a rapid and robust cell culture process development effort for MAb programs in a HTP manner.

Estimation of Urban Green Cover Changes in Colombo Municipal Area over Ten Years Using Remote Sensing Techniques

Colombo is the commercial capital of Sri Lanka, with a high population, buildings, and ***, it is vital to observe the spatial distribution of vegetation types and changes in the green cover of Colombo city to identify priority areas to improve green cover. This study was carried out to estimate the changes in green cover in Colombo Municipal Area(CMA) and its postal zones over 10 years using remote sensing techniques. The green cover was categorized into trees, shrubs, Play-grounds(PG)/Grasslands, wetlands, rooftops, and Ipomoea cover. Accordingly, total green cover increased up to 26.17% from 22.36% during the period of 2012–2022. During the past decade,except for the PG/Grasslands, all other vegetation types have been reduced. Five of the 15 postal zones in the CMA’s green cover have decreased during the past 10 years, including Colombo 04, 05,06, 09, and 13. The highest green cover was recorded in Colombo 07, while the lowest green cover was present in Colombo 11. The outcome of the study emphasizes that CMA is moving towards greening and sustainability even with the expansion of built-up areas and urban populations.
