Digital Social and Emotional Literacy Intervention for Vulnerable Children in Brazil:Participants’Experiences

Social emotional literacy(SEL)interventions are widely implemented through schools,with growing evidence for a range of positive child ***,such interventions are delivered on online *** date,there is limited evidence about digital SEL interventions in low-and middle-income countries(LMIC).The aim of this study was to explore the perceptions and experiences of children,parents and facilitator of the potential value of addressing SEL via tailored digital *** intervention was designed to help children,in Brazil,to cope during the first COVID-19 pandemic *** intervention was delivered via a digital platform to groups of three children for 45 min per week for *** children,nine parents and nine facilitators were interviewed following the completion of the *** data was analysed through a codebook thematic approach,which led to three themes:empowerment,participatory aspects of the intervention and digital ***,children’s SEL development was reported to be supported during the COVID-19 pandemic,by the application of new skills outside the *** reported a number of empowering factors such as being heard and belonging.A range of useful participatory tools were identified including storytelling,games,drawings and *** SEL interventions involving both face-to-face and web-based facilitation could be developed within a tiered model of universal mental health promotion and targeted *** to online platforms would increase reach to large numbers of children in LMIC,especially in contexts of disadvantage.

Enhanced silicate weathering(ESW)is a geoengineering method aimed at accelerating carbon dioxide(CO_(2))removal(CDR)from atmosphere by increasing the weathering flux of silicate rocks and *** has emerged as a promising strategy for *** studies underscore ESW’s substantial potential for CDR and its diverse benefits for crops when applied to ***,the well-known significant discrepancies in silicate weathering rates between laboratory and field conditions introduce uncertainty in CDR through *** compiling data from recent literature,we calculated and compared CDR efficiency(t CO_(2)t^(-1)_(silicate)ha^(-1)y^(-1))observed in mesocosm experiments and field *** findings indicate that CDR efficiencies in field trials are comparable to or exceeding that observed in mesocosm experiments by 1-3 orders of magnitude,particularly evident with wollastonite *** hierarchy of CDR efficiency among silicates suitable for ESW is ranked as follows:olivine≥wollastonite>basalt>albite≥*** suggest the potential role of biota,especially fungi,in contributing to higher CDR efficiencies observed in field trials compared to mesocosm *** further emphasize introducing fungi known for their effectiveness in silicate weathering could potentially enhance CDR efficiency through ESW in *** before implementing fungal-facilitated ESW,three key questions need addressing:(i)How does the community of introduced fungi evolve over time?(ii)What is the long-term trajectory of CDR efficiency following fungal introduction?and(iii)Could fungal introduction lead to organic matter oxidation,resulting in elevated CO_(2)emissions?These investigations are crucial for optimizing the efficiency and sustainability of fungal-facilitated ESW strategy.

Hepatocellular carcinoma recurrence after liver transplant:An Australian single-centre study

BACKGROUND Hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)is a leading cause of cancer-related deaths *** transplantation(LT)offers the most effective *** recurrence is the strongest risk factor that decreases post-LT survival in patients transplanted for *** rate of HCC recurrence is generally reported as 8%-20%in the *** predictors of HCC have already been researched,however,to our knowledge there are no published studies on this topic using Australian *** To determine the rate and identify predictors of HCC recurrence in a contemporary Western Australian LT *** We performed a retrospective cohort study of all liver transplants in patients with HCC at Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital between 2006 and *** was collected from various health record databases and included recipient demographics,serum biochemistry,radiology,operation notes,explant histopathology and details of *** survival of HCC patients post-LT,stratified for recurrence,was calculated by Kaplan Meier *** and multivariate Cox regression was used to determine predictors of HCC recurrence *** Between 1/1/2006 and 12/31/2021,119 patients were transplanted with HCC.8.4%of subjects developed recurrent HCC after LT with median follow-up time of 5.4 *** median time to recurrence was 2.9 years±0.75 *** comparing baseline characteristics,a greater proportion of subjects with recurrence had common characteristics on explant histopathology,including>3 viable nodules(P=0.001),vascular invasion(P=0.003)and poorly differentiated HCC(P=0.03).Unadjusted survival curves showed lower 1-year,3-year,5-year and 10-year survival rates in subjects with HCC recurrence compared to those without HCC recurrence(90%vs 92%,70%vs 88%,42%vs 80%,14%vs 76%,respectively;log rank P<0.001).CONCLUSION HCC recurrence was low at 8.4%in this contemporary Australian cohort,however it significantly impacted post-LT *** studies are requir

Wahi, a discrete global grid gazetteer built using linked open data

Discrete global grid systems have become an important component of Digital Earth ***,previously there has not existed an easy way to map between named places(toponyms)and the cells of a discrete global grid *** lack of such a tool has limited the opportunities to synthesize social place-based data with the more standard Earth and environmental science data currently being analyzed in Digital Earth *** paper introduces Wāhi,the first gazetteer to map entities from the GeoNames database to multiple discrete global grid systems.A gazetteer service is presented that exposes the grid system and the associated gazetteer data as Linked Data.A set of use cases for the discrete global grid gazetteer is discussed.

Transport, signaling, and homeostasis of potassium and sodium in plants

Potassium （K＋） is an essential macronutrient in plants and a lack of K＋ significantly reduces the potential for plant growth and development. By contrast, sodium （Na＋）, while beneficial to some extent, at high concentrations it disturbs and inhibits various physiological processes and plant growth. Due to their chemical similarities, some functions of K＋ can be undertaken by Na＋ but K＋ homeostasis is severely affected by salt stress, on the other hand. Recent advances have highlighted the fascinating regulatory mechanisms of K＋ and Na＋ transport and signaling in plants. This review summarizes three major topics：（i） the transport mechanisms of K＋ and Na＋ from the soil to the shoot and to the cellular - compartments; （ii） the mechanisms through which plants sense and respond to K＋ and Na＋ availability; and （iii） the components involved in maintenance of K＋/Na＋ homeostasis in plants under salt stress.

DEM analysis of the effect of electrostatic interaction on particle mixing for carrier-based dry powder inhaler formulations

Particle interactions play a significant role in controlling the performance of dry powder inhalers （DPIs）, which mainly arise through van der Waals potentials, electrostatic interactions, and capillary forces. Our aim is to investigate the influence of electrostatic charge on the performance of DPIs as a basis for improv- ing the formulation of the particle ingredients. The mixing process of carrier and active pharmaceutical ingredient （API） particles in a vibrating container is investigated using a discrete element method （DEM）. The number of APl particles attaching to the carrier particle （i.e., contact number） increases with increas- ing charge and decreases with increasing container size. The contact number decreases with increasing vibrational velocity amplitude and frequency. Moreover, a mechanism governed by the electrostatic force is proposed for the mixing process. This mechanism is different from that previously proposed for the mixing process governed by van der Waals forces, indicating that long-range and short-range adhesive forces can result in different mixing behaviours.
