Microbial community coalescence and nitrogen cycling in simulated mortality decomposition hotspots

Background The pulsed introduction of dead plant and animal material into soils represents one of the primary mechanisms for returning organic carbon(C)and nitrogen(N)compounds to biogeochemical *** of animal carcasses provides a high C and N resource that stimulates indigenous environmental microbial communities and introduces non-indigenous,carcass-derived microbes to the ***,the dynamics of the coalesced microbial communities,and the relative contributions of environment-and carcass-derived microbes to C and N cycling are *** test whether environment-derived,carcass-derived,or the combined microbial communities exhibited a greater influence on C and N cycling,we conducted controlled laboratory experiments that combined carcass decomposition fluids and soils to simulate carcass decomposition *** selectively sterilized the decomposition fluid and/or soil to remove microbial communities and create different combinations of environment-and carcass-derived communities and incubated the treatments under three temperatures(10,20,and 30℃).Results Carcass-derived bacteria persisted in soils in our simulated decomposition scenarios,albeit at low *** communities had higher respiration rates at 10 and 30℃ compared to soil or carcass communities ***,at higher temperatures,mixed communities had reduced diversity,but higher respiration,suggesting functional *** communities treatments also provided evidence that carcass-associated microbes may be contributing to ammonification and denitrification,but that nitrification is still primarily carried out by native soil *** Our work yields insight into the dynamics of microbial communities that are coalescing during carcass decomposition,and how they contribute to recycling carcasses in terrestrial ecosystems.

Alleviative effects of Cannabis flower on migraine and headache

Objective: Few studies to date have measured the real-time effects of consumption of common and commercially available Cannabis products for the treatment of headache and migraine under naturalistic conditions. This study examines, for the first time, the effectiveness of using dried Cannabis flower, the most widely used type of Cannabis product in the United States, in actual time for treatment of headache-and migraine-related pain and the associations between different product characteristics and changes in symptom intensity following Cannabis ***: Between 06/10/2016 and 02/12/2019, 699 people used the Releaf Application to record realtime details of their Cannabis use, including product characteristics and symptom intensity levels prior to and following self-administration;data included 1910 session-level attempts to treat headache-(1328 sessions) or migraine-related pain(582 sessions). Changes in headache-or migraine-related pain intensity were measured on a 0–10 scale prior to, and immediately, following Cannabis ***: Ninety-four percent of users experienced symptom relief within a two-hour observation window. The average symptom intensity reduction was 3.3 points on a 0–10 scale(standard deviation = 2.28,Cohen's d = 1.58), with males experiencing greater relief than females(P wed that, among the known(i.e., labeled) product characteristics, tetrahydrocannabinol levels 10% and higher are the strongest independent predictors of symptom relief, and this effect is particularly prominent in headache rather than migraine sufferers(P wer labeled as ‘‘C. indica" rather than ‘‘C. sativa" or other hybrid ***: These results suggest that whole dried Cannabis flowe

Snapshot of an integrated psychosocial gastroenterology service

AIM:To characterize the patients utilizing a gastroenterology behavioral medicine service and examine the effect of treatment on health care ***:Patients were referred by their gastroenterologists for psychological treatment during a15 mo *** seen for an intake with a psychologist completed the Brief Symptom Inventory(BSI)and a checklist of psychosocial concerns.A subset of patients with functional bowel disorders also completed a disease specific quality of life *** review was conducted to obtain information on type and frequency of sessions with the psychologist,the number of outpatient gastroenterology visits,and number of gastroenterology-related medical procedures during the 6 mo following psychological ***:Of 259 patients referred for treatment,118(46%)completed an intake with a *** included:irritable bowel syndrome(42%),functional dyspepsia(20%),inflammatory bowel diseases(20%),esophageal symptoms(10%),and"other"(8%).Demographic variables and disease type did not differentiate between those who did and did not schedule an *** t-scores for the BSI global score index and the depression,anxiety,and somatization subscales fell below the cutoff for clinical significance(t=63).Treatments were predominantly gut-directed hypnosis(48%)and cognitive behavioral therapy(44%).Average length of treatment was 4 *** functional gastrointestinal(GI)patients,those patients who initiated treatment received significantly fewer GI-related medical procedures during the 6 mo following the referral than patients who did not schedule an intake[t(197)=2.69,Pwith functional GI conditions.

Dynamic modeling of a three-dimensional braided composite thin plate considering braiding directions

Currently, there are a limited number of dynamic models available for braided composite plates with large overall motions, despite the incorporation of three-dimensional(3D) braided composites into rotating blade components. In this paper, a dynamic model of 3D 4-directional braided composite thin plates considering braiding directions is established. Based on Kirchhoff's plate assumptions, the displacement variables of the plate are expressed. By incorporating the braiding directions into the constitutive equation of the braided composites, the dynamic model of the plate considering braiding directions is obtained. The effects of the speeds, braiding directions, and braided angles on the responses of the plate with fixed-axis rotation and translational motion, respectively, are investigated. This paper presents a dynamic theory for calculating the deformation of 3D braided composite structures undergoing both translational and rotational motions. It also provides a simulation method for investigating the dynamic behavior of non-isotropic material plates in various applications.

Osteosarcoma(OS)is the most common primary bone cancer in children and adolescents,affecting~560 young patients in the United States *** term OS describes a diverse array of subtypes with varying prognoses,but the majority of tumors are high grade and *** because the true etiology of these aggressive tumors remains unknown,advances in OS treatment have reached a discouraging plateau,with only incremental improvements over the past 40 ***,research surrounding the pathogenesis of OS is essential,as it promises to unveil novel therapeutic targets that can attack tumor cells with greater specificity and lower *** the candidate molecular targets in OS,the retinoblastoma(RB)pathway demonstrates the highest frequency of inactivation and thus represents a particularly promising avenue for molecular targeted *** review examines the present thinking and practices in OS treatment and specifically highlights the relevance of the RB pathway in *** further investigation into RB pathway-related novel therapeutic targets,we believe that a near-term breakthrough in improved OS prognosis is possible.
