Prognostic value of pre-treatment F-18-FDG PeT-CT in patients with hepatocellular carcinoma undergoing radioembolization

AIM To evaluate the value of pre-treatment 18F-FDG PeT/CT in patients with HCC following liver *** We identified 34 patients with HCC who underwent an FDG PeT/CT scan prior to hepatic radioembolization at our institution between 2009 and 2013. Patients wereseen in clinic one month after radioembolization and then at 2-3 mo intervals. We assessed the influence of FDG tumor uptake on outcomes including local liver control(LLC), distant liver control(DLC), time to distant metastases(DM), progression free survival(PFS) and overall survival(OS).ReSULTS The majority of patients were males(n = 25, 74%), and had Child Pugh Class A(n = 31, 91%), with a median age of 68 years(46-84 years). FDG-avid disease was found in 19(56%) patients with SUVmax ranging from 3 to 20. Female patients were more likely to have an FDG-avid HCC(P = 0.02). Median follow up of patients following radioembolization was 12 months(1.2-62.8 mo). FDG-avid disease was associated with a decreased 1 year LLC, DLC, DM and PFS(P e analysis, FDG avidity predicted for LLC, DLC, and PFS(all P etrospective study, pre-treatment HCC FDGavidity was found to be associated with worse LLC, DLC, and PFS following radioembolization. Larger studies are needed to validate our initial findings to assess the role of F-18-FDG PeT/CT scans as biomarker for patients with HCC following radioembolization.

The interest in using the Datura stramonium plant is due to its natural products,which are used in many pharmaceutical *** objective of the current study was to assess the therapeutic and cytotoxic effects of the *** plant on two types of human cancer cell models(MCF7 and HT29)in vitro.A soxhlet apparatus was used to obtain methanolic extract from dried plant *** recovered crude,after the solvent had evaporated,was then dispersed at varied concentrations of extract 100,50,20,and 0.0µg/mL and tested to see how the cells ***,the cancer-testis antigen(CTA)gene transcription in the two cell types exposed to the plant extract was examined using a semi-quantitative real-time polymerase chain *** chromatography–mass spectrometry(GC-MS)results produced the significant main metabolites Nonanoic acid,Tropine N-Oxide,3,6-Ditigloyloxy-7-hydroxytropane,Hexadecanoic acid,2-Pentadecanone,6,10,14-trimethyl-,Carvenone,methyl ester,Phytol,Aposcopolamine,Hyoscyamine,4,8,12,16-Tetramethylheptadecan-4-olide,Scopolamine,Alpha.-Tocospiro A,1,2-Cycloheptanedione,3,3,7,7-tetramethyl-,dihydrazone,Campesterol,Stigmasterol,Gamma-Sitosterol and dl-.alpha.-*** results showed that the two types of cell lines impacted by *** extract,through untreated type 1 cells(MCF7)gave a highly significant transcription according to all applicable *** implemented analyses cleared the strong genetic impacts of Datura extract on cancer cells’***2LY and C2orf63 transcript accumulation were also significantly elevated when exposed to plant extract at a level of 50µg/mL in cell line type 2(HT29),but TGIF2LY and P53 had the lowest relative expression at a level of 100µg/mL when treated the same cell line type.

Given the limited availability of resources in nature,sexual attractiveness may trade off with immunocompetence,as the immunocompetence handicap hypothesis(ICHH)*** invertebrates,a direct link between trade-offs through hormonal/molecular effectors in sexual signals and immunity has not been found so ***,we assessed how variation in sexual signals affected parasite infection in two sex pheromone selected lines of the moth Chloridea virescens:an attractive line with a low ratio of 16:Ald/Z11-16:Ald and an unattractive line with a high *** infecting these lines with an apicomplexan parasite,we found that the attractive Low line was significantly more susceptible to the parasite infection than the unattractive High *** the ratio difference between these two lines is determined by a delta-11-desturase,we hypothesized that this desaturase may have a dual role,i.e.,in the quality of the sexual signal as well as an involvement in immune response,comparable to testosterone in ***,when we used CRISPR/cas9 to knockout delta-11-desturase in the attractive Low line,we found that the pheromonal phenotype did change to that of the High line,but the infection susceptibility did ***,when checking the genomic location of delta-11-desaturase in the ***,we found that mucin is adjacent to *** comparing the mucin sequences in both lines,we found four nonsynonymous SNPs in the coding sequence,as well as intronic variation between the two *** differences suggest that genetic hitchhiking may explain the variation in susceptibility to parasitic infection.

Management of borderline resectable pancreatic cancer

Pancreatic cancer is the fourth most common cause of cancer death in the United States. Surgery remains the only curative option; however only 20% of the patients have resectable disease at the time of initialpresentation. The definition of borderline resectable pancreatic cancer is not uniform but generally denotes to regional vessel involvement that makes it unlikely to have negative surgical margins. The accurate staging of pancreatic cancer requires triple phase computed tomography or magnetic resonance imaging of the pancreas. Management of patients with borderline resectable pancreatic cancer remains unclear. The data for treatment of these patients is primarily derived from retrospective single institution experience. The prospective trials have been plagued by small numbers and poor accrual. Neoadjuvant therapy is recommended and typically consists of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The chemotherapeutic regimens continue to evolve along with type and dose of radiation therapy. Gemcitabine or 5-fluorouracil based chemotherapeutic combinations are administered. The type and dose of radiation vary among different institutions. With neoadjuvant treatment, approximately 50% of the patients are able to undergo surgical resections with negative margins obtained in greater than 80% of the patients. Newer trials are attempting to standardize the definition of borderline resectable pancreatic cancer and treatment regimens. In this review, we outline the definition, imaging requirements and management of patients with borderline resectable pancreatic cancer.

Predictive value of the systemic immune inflammation index in recurrence of atrial fibrillation after radiofrequency catheter ablation

The recurrence of atrial fibrillation(AF)in patients after successful radiofrequency catheter ablation(RFCA)appears to be an unresolved clinical issue and needs to be clearly *** are many factors associated with AF recurrence,such as duration of AF,male sex,concomitant heart failure,hemodynamic parameters,chronic obstructive pulmonary disease,hypertension,obstructive sleep apnea,hyperthyroidism,smoking and ***,the inflammatory changes are strongly associated with electrical and structural cardiac remodeling,cardiac damage,myocardial fibrotic changes,microvascular dysfunction and altered reparative *** this context,biomarkers reflecting the different stages of AF pathogenesis deserve thorough *** authors of the retrospective study revealed that one-year recurrence rate of non-valvular AF in the high systemic immune inflammation(SII)index group was significantly increased compared to that of the low SII index group and provided additional predictive value to the ***,the authors suggest that this biomarker may help physicians to optimize the selection of AF patients and to develop a personalized treatment *** conclusion,the SII index may serve as a valuable indicator of recurrent AF in patients after RFCA and may be a biomarker with plausible predictive value for poor clinical outcomes.

目的汉化护理学校归属感量表,并检验中文版护理学校归属感量表的信效度。方法依据Brislin原则翻译护理学校归属感量表,由8名专家评价中文版护理学校归属感量表的内容效度。2022年8月至2023年10月,采用中文版护理学校归属感量表调查330名护理本科生以检验其信效度。结果中文版护理学校归属感量表包含4个分量表共19个条目。量表水平的内容效度指数为0.947,条目水平的内容效度指数为0.875~1.000,量表的Cronbach′sα系数为0.965。探索性因子分析提取4个公因子,累计方差贡献率为83.766%;验证性因子分析结果显示,χ^(2)/df=2.672,RMSeA=0.088,CFI=0.938,RMR=0.027,NFI=0.906,IFI=0.939。结论中文版护理学校归属感量表信效度良好,可用于测评护理专业学生的学校归属感水平。
