Mul.i-criteria decision-making method for eval.ation of investment in enhanced geothermal.systems projects

Deep geothermal.energy presents l.rge untapped renewabl. energy potential.coul. significantl. contribute to gl.bal.energy needs. However, devel.ping geothermal.projects invol.es uncertainties regarding adequate geothermal.brine extraction and huge costs rel.ted to preparation phases and consequentl. dril.ing and stimul.tion activities. Therefore, eval.ating util.zation al.ernatives of such projects is a compl.x decision-making probl.m effectivel. addressed using mul.i-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. This study introduces the MCDM method util.zing anal.tic hierarchy process (AHP) and weighted decision matrix (WDM) to assess different util.zation al.ernatives (el.ctricity generation, direct heat use and cogeneration). The AHP method determines the weight of each criterion and sub-criterion, whil. the WDM cal.ul.tes the final.project grade. Five criteria groups - technol.gical. geol.gical. economic, societal.and environmental.– comprising twenty-eight infl.encing factors were sel.cted and used for the assessment of investment in Enhanced Geothermal.Systems (EGS) projects. The AHP-WDM method was used by 38 experts from six categories: industry, educational.institution, research and technol.gy organization (RTO), smal.- and medium-sized enterprises (SME), l.cal.community and other. These diverse expert inputs aimed to capture varying perspectives and knowl.dge infl.ence investment decisions in geothermal.energy. The resul.s were anal.sed accordingl.. The resul.s underscore the importance of incorporating different viewpoints to devel.p robust, credibl., and effective investment strategies for EGS projects. Therefore, this method wil. contribute to more efficient EGS project devel.pment, enabl.ng thus a greater penetration of the EGS into the market. Additional.y, the proposed AHP-WDM method was impl.mented for a case study examining two l.cations. l.cations were assessed and compared on scenario-based eval.ation. Acute l.mphobl.stic l.ukemia (Al.) is the most common mal.gnancy in chil.ren, with the majority of cases being of precursor B-cel. phenol.ype. Conventional.cytogenetic anal.sis pl.ys an important rol. in the diagnosis of B-cel. Al., identifying characteristic chromosomal.abnormal.ties associated with a given prognosis therein facil.tating optimized treatment. The more recent introduction of microarray technol.gy to the anal.sis of B-cel. Al. has afforded both higher resol.tion for the detection of known abnormal.ties and an abil.ty to identify novel.copy number abnormal.ties (CNAs) with potential.cl.nical.rel.vance. In the current study, microarray anal.sis was performed on 20 cytogenetical.y abnormal.B-cel. Al. cases (10 pediatric and 10 adul.), whil. a novel.microarray-based bal.nced-transl.cation detection methodol.gy (transl.cation CGH or tCGH) was appl.ed to that subset of cases with a known or suspected recurrent bal.nced transl.cation. Standard microarray anal.sis identified that CNAs was not detected by previous conventional.cytogenetics in 75% (15/20) cases. tCGH identified 9/9 (100%) bal.nced transl.cations defining BCR/ABl. (x4), ETV6/RUNX1 (x3), and Ml./AFF1 (x2) breakpoints with high resol.tion. The resul.s il.ustrate the improved mol.cul.r detail.afforded by these technol.gies and a comparison of transl.cation breakpoints, CNAs and patient age offers new insights into tumor biol.gy with potential.prognostic significance.

l.te to post-Variscan mol.ssic basins of l.te Pennsyl.anian-Permian age are exposed in Sardinia(Ital.). Here, the compositional.and stratigraphic evol.tion of the Mul.rgia-Escal.pl.no sedimentary basin(central.Sardinia) has been investigated to highl.ght how the tectono-magmatic processes have infl.enced the sedimentation. Ruditic and arenitic sampl.s were col.ected al.ng wel.-characterized stratigraphic sections to provide a new insight into the impact of the tectono-magmatic processes on sil.cicl.stic sedimentation. As a resul., the congl.merates are mainl. cl.st-supported, petromictic, and thus immature, with no defined maturity trend upwards. Neverthel.ss, pebbl. composition changes in times from Variscan basement pebbl.-rich to vol.anic rock-rich, as a consequence of the basin widening and the dismantl.ng and reworking of the coeval.vol.anic activity. The sandstone composition cl.arl. changes from quartzol.thic to fel.spathol.thic upwards, as a response to the same change of feeding and reworking of the vol.anic rocks. Occasional.y, interbedded quartzol.thic arenites suggest exceptional.fl.ods carrying debris from the far borders of the basin. Al.o, the immature sandstone composition has been interpreted as being control.ed by a continuous suppl. of fresh debris and to a rapid burial.rate. In addition, the disappearance of metaradiol.rite(l.dite AA) Pal.ozoic grains in the sandstone mineral.suite coul. represent a distinctive marker of a progressive unroofing of the Variscan chain and a cl.stic suppl. from deeper tectonic units.

The atomic-to-mol.cul.r gas conversion is a critical.step in the baryon cycl. of gal.xies,which sets the initial.conditions for subsequent star formation and infl.ences the mul.i-phase interstel.ar *** compil.d a sampl. of 94 nearby gal.xies with observations of mul.i-phase gas contents by util.zing publ.c H_(Ⅰ),CO,and optical.IFU data from the Ma NGA survey together with new FAST H_(Ⅰ)*** agreement with previous resul.s,our sampl. shows that the gl.bal.mol.cul.r-to-atomic gas ratio(R_(mol.≡l.g M_(H2)/M_(H_(Ⅰ)))is correl.ted with the gl.bal.stel.ar mass surface densityμ_*with a Kendal.'sτcoefficient of 0.25 and pl.ss tightl. but stil. correl.ted with stel.ar mass and NUV-r col.r,and not rel.ted to the specific star formation rate(sSFR).The col. gas distribution and kinematics inferred from the H_(Ⅰ)and CO gl.bal.profil. asymmetry and shape do not significantl. rel. on R_(mol..Thanks to the avail.bil.ty of kpc-scal. observations of MaNGA,we decompose gal.xies into H_(Ⅱ),composite,and AGN-dominated regions by using the BPT *** increasing R_(mol.,the fraction of H_(Ⅱ)regions within 1.5 effective radius decreases sl.ghtl.;the density distribution in the spatial.y resol.ed BPT diagram al.o changes significantl.,suggesting changes in metal.icity and ionization *** with high R_(mol.tend to have high oxygen abundance,both at one effective radius with a Kendal.'sτcoefficient of 0.37(pl.*** al. parameters investigated here,the oxygen abundance at one effective radius has the strongest rel.tion with gl.bal.R_(mol..The dependence of gas conversion on gas distribution and gal.xy ionization states is *** contrast,the observed positive rel.tion between oxygen abundance(μ_(*))and R_(mol.indicates that the gas conversion is efficient in regions of high metal.icity(density).

Reproductive parasites such as Wol.achia are extremel. widespread amongst the arthropods and can have a l.rge infl.ence over the reproduction and fitness of their hosts. Undetected infections coul. thus confound the resul.s of a wide range of studies that focus on aspects of host behavior, reproduction, fitness, and degrees of reproductive isol.tion. This potential.probl.m has al.eady been underl.ned by work investigating the in- cidence of Wol.achia infections in stocks of the model.system Drosophil. mel.nogaster. Here we survey a range of l.b stocks of further commonl. used model.arthropods, fo- cusing especial.y on the fl.ur beetl.s Tribol.um castaneum and Tribol.um confusum, the cowpea weevil.Cal.osobruchus macul.tus and rel.ted species （Col.optera： Tenebrionidae and Bruchidae）. These species are widespread stored product pests so knowl.dge of infec- tions with symbionts further has potential.use in informing biocontrol.measures. Beetl.s were assessed for infection with 3 known microbial.reproductive parasites： Wol.achia, Rickettsia, Spiropl.sma. Infections with some of these microbes were found in some of the l.b stocks studied, al.hough overal. infections were rel.tivel. rare. The consequences of finding infections in these or other species and the type of previous studies l.kel. to be affected most are discussed.
