Among neurodegenerative diseases,amyotrophic lateral sclerosis(ALS)is the most frequent one involving motor neurons(MNs).ALS incidence varies throughout the world ranging from 0.7 to 4 cases per 100,000 habitants and year(Riancho et al.,2016).This disease,which currently lacks an effective therapy,is characterized by a variable combination of upper and lower MN degeneration,leading to progressive muscle wasting which usually results in a terminal respiratory failure within 3 years after symptom onset(Zufiria et al.,2016).A small proportion of ALS cases show familial *** are related to mutations in specific causative genes(Cr9ORF72,TARDBP,FUS,SOD1 and others)which directly determine disease onset in *** contrast,more than 90 percent of cases are considered to be sporadic,in which generally unknown environmental and internal factors interact with genetic predisposing factors finally leading to disease(Riancho et al.,2018).From a histopathological point of view,ALS is characterized by MN damage and *** from ALS sporadic and most of familial patients exhibit prominent transactive response DNA-binding protein 43(TDP-43)cytoplasmic aggregates which are considered as the“pathological hallmark”of the disease,excepting those related to SOD1 and FUS mutations(Zufiria et al.,2016).TDP-43 is a DNA/RNA binding protein encoded by the TARDBP gene that controls the expression of many different genes.

A methodology for assessing the urban supply of on-street delivery bays

The loading and unloading operations carried out by transport and logistics operators have a strong impact on city mobility if they are not performed *** loading/unloading bays,i.e.,delivery bays(DB),are not available for freight vehicle operations,operators may opt to double park or park on the sidewalk where there is no strong enforcement of these laws,with significant impact on *** paper proposes a methodology for verifying and designing the number of delivery bays needed for freight vehicles for not interfere with cars or *** methodology consists of two stages:in the first stage,an initial estimation is made using queueing ***,in the second stage,using such tentative scenario,in order to take into account the system stochasticity involving different entities,a discrete event simulation is performed to more realistically verify and upgrade(if necessary)the number of delivery bays to obtain the expected *** methodology was applied in the inner area of Santander(Spain).The study area was subdivided into 29 zones where the methodology was applied *** results indicated that none of these zones currently have an optimal number of delivery bays to satisfy *** some zones,there is an excess of delivery bays,although in most of them,there is a deficit which can cause significant impacts on *** method proposed can be an effective tool to be used by city planners for improving freight operations in urban areas limiting the negative impacts produced in terms of internal and external costs.

Incorporation of phenolic extracts from different by-products in yoghurts to create fortified and sustainable foods

This work aimed to study and compare the effect of the incorporation of agro-industrial by-products(chestnut shell,grapeseed,and pomegranate peel)into yoghurts to fortify them while assessing their potential to replace synthetic *** each by-product,phenolic extracts were obtained and *** extracts demonstrated antioxidant and antibacterial properties,and the capacity to inhibitα-*** shell extract stood out regarding antioxidant capacity,displaying values of 1128 and 972 mgT_(rolox•gextract)^(-1),for the assays with DPPH and ABTS,*** yoghurts were produced(negative control,positive control with 0.1%of sorbic acid,two for each extract with 0.1%and 0.2%of extract,a mixture of extracts and a mixture of extracts with sorbic acid),and stored at 4℃.The incorporation of the extracts into the yoghurts maintained their physical-chemical properties and microbiological *** samples inhibited the growth of Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus *** analysis proved that higher concentrations of extract had similar results to synthetic *** results showed the viability to fortify yoghurts with the incorporation of by-product extracts,developing a value-added ***,revealed the possibility of these extracts replacing synthetic preservatives and antioxidants.

City Digital Twins: their maturity level and differentiation from 3D city models

The emerging field of City Digital Twins has advanced in recent years with the help of digital infrastructure and technologies connected to the Internet of Things(IoT).However,the evolution of this field has been so fast that a gap has opened in relation to systematic reviews of the relevant literature and the maturation of City Digital Twins on an urban *** work bridges this gap by highlighting maturity in the *** conducted a systematic literature review with bibliometric and content analysis of 41 selected papers published in Web of Science and Scopus data-bases,covering five areas:data types and sources,case studies,applied technologies and methods,maturity spectrum,and *** on maturity indicators,the majority of the reviewed studies(90%)were at initial to medium stages of maturity(up to element 3),most of them focused on 3D modelling,monitoring and ***,digital twins cannot be limited to 3D models,monitoring and visualisation,for they can be developed to include two-directional interactions between humans and *** a high level of maturity,which was not found in the reviewed studies,requires advanced technologies and methods such as cloud computing,artificial intelligence,BIM and *** also found that further studies are essential if the field is to handle the complex urban challenges of multidisciplinary digital *** City Digital Twins extend by definition beyond mere 3D city modelling,some studies involving 3D city models still refer to their subjects as City Digital *** the research gaps we identified,we’d like to highlight the need for near-real-time data analytics algorithms,which could furnish City Digital Twins with big data *** opportunities include public participation capabilities to increase social collaboration,integrating BIM and GIS technologies and improving storage and computation infrastructure.

Multi-criteria decision-making method for evaluation of investment in enhanced geothermal systems projects

Deep geothermal energy presents large untapped renewable energy potential could significantly contribute to global energy needs. However, developing geothermal projects involves uncertainties regarding adequate geothermal brine extraction and huge costs related to preparation phases and consequently drilling and stimulation activities. Therefore, evaluating utilization alternatives of such projects is a complex decision-making problem effectively addressed using multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods. This study introduces the MCDM method utilizing analytic hierarchy process (AHP) and weighted decision matrix (WDM) to assess different utilization alternatives (electricity generation, direct heat use and cogeneration). The AHP method determines the weight of each criterion and sub-criterion, while the WDM calculates the final project grade. Five criteria groups - technological, geological, economic, societal and environmental – comprising twenty-eight influencing factors were selected and used for the assessment of investment in Enhanced Geothermal Systems (EGS) projects. The AHP-WDM method was used by 38 experts from six categories: industry, educational institution, research and technology organization (RTO), small- and medium-sized enterprises (SME), local community and other. These diverse expert inputs aimed to capture varying perspectives and knowledge influence investment decisions in geothermal energy. The results were analysed accordingly. The results underscore the importance of incorporating different viewpoints to develop robust, credible, and effective investment strategies for EGS projects. Therefore, this method will contribute to more efficient EGS project development, enabling thus a greater penetration of the EGS into the market. Additionally, the proposed AHP-WDM method was implemented for a case study examining two locations. Locations were assessed and compared on scenario-based evaluation. Curing Kinetics of Tannin and Lignin Biobased Adhesives Determined by DSC and ABES

The curing process of two biobased adhesives:pine tanninhexamine(TH)and organosolv lignin non-isocyanate polyurethane(NIPU),suitable for interior nonstructural use,were compared with commercial urea-formaldehyde(UF)*** in chemical structure before and after the curing process were observed with Fouriertransform infrared spectroscopy(FTIR).The process of adhesive curing was monitored with differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)and the automated bonding evaluation system(ABES).Both DSC and ABES measurements confirmed UF as the fastest and NIPU as the slowest curing adhesive *** into account the ABES results,the optimal pressing parameters for the TH adhesive would be 4 min at 175℃,for the NIPU adhesive 7 min at 200℃and for the UF 1.5 min at 100℃.Strong linear correlation was observed between mechanical and chemical curing for the UF and NIPU adhesives,whereas lower correlation was observed for the TH *** all observed adhesives,the DSC measurements were underestimating the curing process determined by ABES in the first part and overestimating it at the *** underestimation was the most evident with the TH adhesive and the less with the UF *** comparing the uncured and cured FTIR spectra of all three types of adhesives,a drastic decrease in the characteristic band of-OH groups at 3330–3400 cm^(−1)and an increase in the signal intensity at 2920 cm^(−1)of aliphatic-CH2-groups were *** the UF adhesive,the C=O stretching frequency has shifted from 1632 cm^(−1)for uncured to three different bands at 1766,1701,and 1655 cm^(−1)for cured *** sharp band for phenolic alcohols at 1236 cm^(−1)of C–O stretch and hydroxyl O–H functional group at 1009 cm^(−1)and at 684 cm^(−1)of uncured TH adhesive diminished during curing,which indicates that a crosslinking reaction occurs via-OH *** peak of the C=O group of urethane bridges at 1697 cm^(−1)for uncured NIPU shifted to lower wavenumber at 1633 cm^(−1)for cured NIPU.

An air and moisture stable ruthenium（Ⅲ） formate complex[Ru（HCO2）Cl2]n has been synthesized and examined in the epoxidation of substituted styrenes.X-ray crystallographic data of this complex were determined and showed that the formate ligand coordinates to the ruthenium centers in a μ~2-η~2 fashion（syn,syn）.Its asymmetric unit contains one Ru（Ⅲ） ion together with the half of a formate ligand and one chloride anion,which are bridged between the metal centers,forming a 1-D chain coordination *** electron deficient helical coordination polymer was employed in the epoxidation of parafluorostyrene,affording the epoxide product in 92%*** chirality of this coordination polymer is applicable in asymmetric epoxidation reactions.

Calculation and Simulation of Evapotranspiration of Applied Water

The University of California, Davis and the California Department of Water Resources have developed a weather generator application program “SIMETAW” to simulate weather data from climatic records and to estimate reference evapotranspiration （ETo） and crop evapotranspiration （ETc） with the generated simulation data or with observed data. A database of default soil depth and water holding characteristics, effective crop rooting depths, and crop coefficient （Kc） values to convert ETo to ETc are input into the program. After calculating daily ETc, the input and derived data are used to determine effective rainfall and to generate hypothetical irrigation schedules to estimate the seasonal and annual evapotranspiration of applied water （ETaw）, where ETaw is the net amount of irrigation water needed to produce a crop. in this paper, we will discuss the simulation model and how it determines ETaw for use in water resources planning.
