Trophic niche changes associated with the eradication of invasive mammals in an insular lizard: an assessment using isotopes

Invasive species are a major threat to island biodiversity,and their eradications have substantially contributed to the conservation of island ***,the consequences of eradications on the trophic ecology of native taxa are largely ***,we used the eradication of invasive black rats Rattus rattus and European rabbits Oryctolagus cuniculus from the Berlenga Island,in the western coast of Portugal,as a whole-ecosystem experiment to investigate the effects of the eradication of invasive mammals on the trophic niche and body dimensions of the island-restricted Berlenga wall lizard Podarcis carbonelli berlengensis over a 2-year *** results suggest an expansion of the isotopic niche and an intensification of the sexual dimorphism of the lizard following mammal ***,we found considerable variability in isotopic niche across the island and detected evidence of sex-specific and season-modulated nutritional requirements of this threatened *** findings support that the eradication of 2 of the planets most problematic invasive vertebrates led to changes in the lizard trophic niche and sexual dimorphism in just 2 *** suggests that the ecological pressuresfor example,prey availability and habitat structureto which lizards are exposed have substantially changed *** study emphasizes the scientific value of island eradications as experiments to address a wide range of ecological questions and adds to the increasing body of evidence supporting substantial conservation gains associated with these restoration interventions.

The recent advancements made in World Wide Web and social networking have eased the spread of fake news among people at a faster *** most of the times,the intention of fake news is to misinform the people and make manipulated societal *** spread of low-quality news in social networking sites has a negative influence upon people as well as the *** order to overcome the ever-increasing dissemination of fake news,automated detection models are developed using Artificial Intelligence(AI)and Machine Learning(ML)*** latest advancements in Deep Learning(DL)models and complex Natural Language Processing(NLP)tasks make the former,a significant solution to achieve fake News Detection(fND).In this background,the current study focuses on design and development of Natural Language Processing with Sea Turtle foraging Optimizationbased Deep Learning Technique for fake News Detection and Classification(STODL-fNDC)*** aim of the proposed STODL-fNDC model is to discriminate fake news from legitimate news in an effectual *** the proposed STODL-fNDC model,the input data primarily undergoes pre-processing and Glove-based word ***,STODL-fNDC model employs Deep Belief Network(DBN)approach for detection as well as classification of fake ***,STO algorithm is utilized after adjusting the hyperparameters involved in DBN model,in an optimal *** novelty of the study lies in the design of STO algorithm with DBN model for *** order to improve the detection performance of STODL-fNDC technique,a series of simulations was carried out on benchmark *** experimental outcomes established the better performance of STODL-fNDC approach over other methods with a maximum accuracy of 95.50%.

Wettability alteration analysis of smart water/novel functionalized nanocomposites for enhanced oil recovery

Smart water flooding,as a popular method to change the wettability of carbonate rocks,is one of the interesting and challenging issues in reservoir *** addition,the recent studies show that nanoparticles have a great potential for application in EOR ***,little research has been conducted on the use of smart water with nanoparticles in enhanced oil *** this study,stability,contact angle and IfT measurements and multi-step core flooding tests were designed to investigate the effect of the ionic composition of smart water containing SO4^2- and Ca^2+ ions in the presence of nanofluid on EOR *** amine/organosiloxane@Al2O3/SiO2(AOAS) nanocomposite previously synthesized using co-precipitation-hydrothermal method has been used ***,for the first time the application of this nanocomposite along with smart water has been studied in this *** show that by increasing the concentrations of calcium and sulfate ions in smart water,oil recovery is improved by 9% and 10%,respectively,compared to *** addition,the use of smart water and nanofluids simultaneously is very effective on increasing oil ***,the best performance was observed in smart water containing two times of sulfate ions concentration(SW2 S) with nanofluids,showing increased efficiency of about 7.5%.

BACKGROUND Ovarian hyperstimulation syndrome(OHSS)is a life-threatening complication that can occur in the luteal phase or early pregnancy after controlled ovarian *** case report highlights a unique manifestation of OHSS involving pleural effusion(PE)in a patient without identifiable risk *** SUMMARY A 39-year-old woman who underwent controlled ovarian hyperstimulation for an in vitro fertilization(IVf)cycle experienced dyspnea on the eleventh day of post oocyte *** diagnosis was severe OHSS with a unique manifestation of PE without *** management involved fluid balance and treatment with albumin,furosemide,thromboembolic prophylaxis,and thoracentesis.A continued drainage of the pleural cavity was *** patient had a favo-rable outcome,and a dichorionic diamniotic gestation passed without *** OHSS and its potential complications can include respiratory distress and PE,as well as thromboembolic disorders.

Epidemiology of hepatitis C virus exposure in Egypt: Opportunities for prevention and evaluation

AIM: To critically evaluate the current epidemiology data on exposures, rather than infection, to hepatitis C virus(HCV) transmission and recommend epidemiologic strategies to fill gaps. METHODS: Standard methods for identifying and evaluating relevant epidemiologic literature and available data were used. RESULTS: There is a large body of literature on the epidemiology of HCV transmission in Egypt that collectively identifies ongoing iatrogenic exposures as the major driver for HCV transmission due to short comings in infection control and standard procedures. Additional epidemiologic studies on HCV transmission that requires the participation of human subject is unwarranted. Alternatively, very little literature was found on the epidemiology of exposure to HCV, infection control, and safe injection practices. The information that is available on patterns of HCV exposure shows high frequencies of inadequate infection control, problems in sterilization in health care facilities, low rates of hand washing, untrained personnel, lack of stated policies in facilities, HCV contamination of instruments and very large injection frequencies with low but very significant syringe and needle reuse. There is an important need to increase the number, size, and diversity of epidemiologic studies on HCV exposures, patterns of risk factors for infection, infection control, and safe injection practices. In addition to health care facilities evaluation, relevant knowledge attitude and practice studies are recommended. CONCLUSION: Epidemiologic methods on HCV ex-posure can be used to characterize the magnitude of exposures to HCV infection, target interventions to reduce exposures, and provide the best method for evaluating interventions by demonstrating the reduction of exposure to HCV infection.

Helicobacter pylori infection and extragastric disorders in children: A critical update

Helicobacter pylori(H. pylori) is a highly prevalent, serious and chronic infection that has been associated causally with a diverse spectrum of extragastric disorders including iron deficiency anemia, chronic idiopathic thrombocytopenic purpura, growth retardation, and diabetes mellitus. The inverse relation of H. pylori prevalence and the increase in allergies, as reported from epidemiological studies, has stimulated research for elucidating potential underlying pathophysiological mechanisms. Although H. pylori is most frequently acquired during childhood in both developed and developing countries, clinicians are less familiar with the pediatric literature in the field. A better understanding of the H. pylori disease spectrum in childhood should lead to clearer recommendations about testing for and treating H. pylori infection in children who are more likely to develop clinical sequelae. A further clinical challenge is whether the progressive decrease of H. pylori in thelast decades, abetted by modern clinical practices, may have other health consequences.

Dear Editor, RUB/Nedd8 （RELATED TO UBIQUITIN/neuronal precur- sor cell-expressed developmentally downregulated 8） is a 76-amino acid protein that modifies other proteins and has homology to UBIQUITIN （UBQ）. Like UBQ, RUB modifies pro- teins through an isopeptide linkage between its C-terminal carboxyl group and the e-amino group of a lysine in the accep- tor protein and attachment occurs via an E1-E2-E3 enzymatic cascade.

The path ideal （of length t ≥ 2） of a directed graph G is the monomial ideal], denoted by It （G）, whose generators correspond to the directed paths of length t in G. Let f be a directed rooted tree. We characterize all such trees whose path ideals are unmixed and Cohen-Macaulay. Moreover, we show that R/It（f） is Corenstein if and only if the Stanley-Reisner simplicial complex of It（Г） is a matroid.
