Thermal Characteristics of Air-Water Spray Impingement Cooling of Hot Metallic Surface under Controlled Parametric Conditions

Experimental results on the thermal characteristics of air-water spray impingement cooling of hot metallic surface are presented and discussed in this *** controlling input parameters investigated were the combined air and water pressures,plate thickness,water flow rate,nozzle height from the target surface and initial temperature of the hot *** effects of these input parameters on the important thermal characteristics such as heat transfer rate,heat transfer coefficient and wetting front movement were measured and *** flat plate samples of mild steel with dimension 120 mm in length,120 mm breadth and thickness of 4 mm,6 mm,and 8mm respectively were *** air assisted water spray was found to be an effective cooling media and method to achieve very high heat transfer rate from the *** heat transfer rate and heat transfer coefficients were obtained for the lesser i.e,4 mm thick *** in the nozzle height reduced the heat transfer efficiency of spray *** an inlet water pressure of 4 bar and air pressure of 3 bar,maximum cooling rates670℃/s and average cooling rate of 305.23℃/s were achieved for a temperature of 850℃ of the steel plate.

Firedamp and coal dust explosion constitute a lion’s share in mine accidents in a global mining *** paper reports a list of mine explosion disasters since last two decades,a critical review of the different prevention and constructive measures,and its recent development to avoid firedamp and coal dust *** legislation in core coal-producing countries,***,USA,Australia,South Africa,and India related to firedamp and coal dust explosion are critically *** occurred due to explosion after Nationalisation of Coal Mines(1973)in India are *** and constructive measures adopted in India are critically analysed with respect to the global mining *** like methane credit concept,classification of mines/seams with respect to explosion risk zone,deflagration index;installation of automatic fire warning devices,canopy air curtain technology,explosion-prevention measures,such as fire-retardant materials,inhibitors,extinguishing agent,dust suppressor,and active explosion barrier are discussed in detail to avoid explosion and thereby adhering to zero accident policy due to coal mine explosion.

TGA/DSC study to characterise and classify coal seams conforming to susceptibility towards spontaneous combustion

Thermogravimetric analysis/differential scanning calorimeter(TGA/DSC)technique along with basic coal characteristics study is carried out for eighty coal samples of Indian coalfields,to determine spontaneous combustion propensity behaviour of *** study of coal samples indicates that there is an increase in the mass of coal samples in the temperature range 150-350℃,which may be due to oxygen adsorption and *** correlation and principal component analysis states that the component of proximate analysis(M_(ad),VM_(d),FR,and VR)have an acceptable correlation with the TGA experiments results i.e.,Tgsh and *** fixed nonlinear regression analysis shows that thermogravimetry(TG)experiment results Tgign may be the best index to categorise/classify the coal as per their susceptibility towards spontaneous *** authors proposed four groups of classification as per their propensity towards spontaneous combustion depending upon the moisture(M_(ad)),volatile matter(VM_(d)),and TG ignition temperature from differential thermogravimetric(DTG)curve(Tgign)using hierarchal clustering *** coal samples of different seams from Indian coalfield may be classified into four different clusters,*** highly/extremely susceptible(Tgign320℃).The field observations and TGA/DSC experiment results with the following statistical analysis substantiate a similar assessment.

CFD modeling to study the effect of particle size on dispersion in 20l explosion chamber: An overview

Mine disasters occur predominantly due to methane or coal dust explosion or a combination of *** the top ten worst coal mine disasters in India, nine are due to coal dust explosion. The current paper describes a general overview of the parameters causing dispersion leading to coal dust explosion,and computational fluid dynamics(CFD) simulation study to observe the effects of particle size on dispersion in Indian coal mines. Turbulent kinetic energy(TKE) and velocity vector path of dust-air mixture and dust-free air were simulated to understand their effects on coal dust dispersion. The TKE contours and velocity vector paths for dust-free air were uniform and symmetrical due to resistance-free path available. The TKE contours and velocity vector paths for dust-air mixture shows the asymmetrical distribution of contours, due to entrainment of air with dust particles. Vortices were observed in velocity vector paths which gradually diminish on increment of time sequence. These vortices are dead centres where velocity and coal dust particles concentration are both zero.

Computation of pressure drop for dilute gas-solid suspension across thin and thick orifices

The present work deals with the computation of the gas-solid two-phase flow pressure drop across thin and thick orifices for a vertically downward flow configuration at the higher limits of a dilute phase flow situation(0.01≤αs,in≤0.10).The Eulerian-Eulerian(two-fluid)model has been used in conjunction with the kinetic theory of granular flow with a four-way coupling *** validation of the solution process has been performed by comparing the computational result with the existing experimental *** is observed that the two-phase flow pressure drop across the orifice increases with an increase in the thickness of the orifice,and the effect is more prominent at higher solid *** pressure drop is found to increase with an increase in the solid volume *** increase in the Reynolds number or the area ratio increases the pressure *** increase in the size of the particles reduces the pressure drop across the orifice at both small and relatively large solid volume ***,a two-phase multiplier has been proposed in terms of the relevant parameters,which can be useful to evaluate the gas-solid two-phase flow pressure drop across the orifice and can subsequently help to improve the system performance.

Pressure recovery characteristics for a dilute gas-particle suspension flowing vertically downward in a pipe with a sudden expansion: A two-fluid modeling approach

This work applies the Eulerian-Eulerian model in conjunction with the kinetic theory of granular flow and inter-particle collisions to study the characteristics of pressure recovery for a dilute gas-particle suspension flowing through a pipe with a sudden expansion at a relatively higher solid *** do so,the numerical procedure was validated against experimental results for relatively small dilute phase flows in a pipe with a sudden expansion;a satisfactory agreement was ***,the effect of the two significant numerical parameters namely,the speculairty coefficient and the coefficient of restitution for particle-particle collisions were investigated and then,for fixed combinations of these parameters the effect of particle-phase volume fraction,particle density,particle size,and inlet slip ratio were *** was concluded that pressure recovery diminishes as the speculairty coefficient increases and the particle-particle coefficient of restitution *** recovery was found to increase with increasing solid volume fraction for coarse particles whereas,for fine particles,a critical volume fraction is obtained above which pressure recovery *** increase in slip ratio is found to diminish pressure ***,at relatively higher solid volume fractions,a critical diameter was found,above and below which pressure recovery decreases.

Traumatic brain injury is a sudden trauma or blow on the head,and severe traumatic brain injury is a major cause of death and disability *** acute and chronic consequences following traumatic brain injury can lead to progressive secondary neurodegenerative changes and cognitive *** date,there is no effective pharmaceutical products for the treatment to reduce secondary damage after brain *** discovery of extracellular vesicles has attracted considerable scientific attention due to their role in cell-to-cell *** vesicles have shown their potential to carry not only biological molecules but also as a drug delivery *** a carrier of molecular information,extracellular vesicles have been involved in physiological functions as well as in the modulation of immune ***,we aim to provide new insights into the contrasting role of extracellular vesicles in the propagation of inflammatory responses after brain *** a carrier of pro-inflammatory molecules,their role as functional mediators in the pathophysiology of brain injury is discussed,addressing the inhibition of the extracellular vesicle pathway as an anti-inflammatory or neuroprotective approach to improve the outcome of both acute and chronic inflammation following brain ***,we summarize therapeutic strategies to diminish the risk the neurodegeneration post brain injury and propose that neutral sphingomyelinase inhibitors could be used as potentially useful therapeutic agents for the treatment of brain injury associated neuroinflammation.
