The present study assesses the concentration,probabilistic risk,source classification,and dietary risk arising from heavy metal(HMs)pollution in agricultural soils affected by coal mining in eastern part of *** of soil and rice plant indicated significantly elevated levels of HMs beyond the permissible limit in the contaminated zones(zone 1:PbSoil:108.24±72.97,CuSoil:57.26±23.91,CdSoil:8.44±2.76,CrSoil:180.05±46.90,NiSoil:70.79±25.06 mg/kg;PbGrain:0.96±0.8,CuGrain:8.6±5.1,CdGrain:0.65±0.42,CrGrain:4.78±1.89,NiGrain:11.74±4.38 mg/*** 2:PbSoil:139.56±69.46,CuSoil:69.89±19.86,CdSoil:8.95±2.57,CrSoil:245.46±70.66,NiSoil:95.46±22.89 mg/kg;PbGrain:1.27±0.84,CuGrain:7.9±4.57,CdGrain:0.76±0.43,CrGrain:8.6±1.58,NiGrain:11.50±2.46 mg/kg)compared to the uncontaminated zone(zone 3).Carcinogenic and non-carcinogenic health risks were computed based on the HMs concentration in the soil and rice grain,with Pb,Cr,and Ni identified as posing a high risk to human *** Carlo simulation,the solubility-free ion activity model(FIAM),and severity adjusted margin of exposure(SAMOE)were employed to predict health *** hazard quotient(HQ)values for Ni,Cr,Cd,and Pb were>1,indicating a significant non-carcinogenic ***(risk thermometer)results for contaminated zones ranged from low to moderate risk(CrSAMOE:0.05,and NiSAMOE:0.03).Fuzzy-TOPSIS and variable importance plots(from random forest)showed that Ni and Cr were mostly responsible for the toxicity in the rice plant,respectively.A self-organizing map for source classification revealed common origin for the studied HMs with zone 2 exhibiting the highest *** positive matrix factorization model for the source apportionment identified coal mining and transportation as the predominant sources of *** distribution analysis indicated higher contamination near mining sites as compared to distant sampling ***,this study will aid environmental scientists and policymakers controllin

The present study focuses on the inorganic geochemical features of the bituminous coal samples from the Raniganj and the Jharia Basins,as well as the anthracite samples from the Himalayan fold-thrust belts of Sikkim,*** SiO_(2)content(48.05 wt%to 65.09 wt%and 35.92 wt%to 50.11 wt%in the bituminous and anthracite samples,respectively)and the ratio of Al_(2)O_(3)/TiO_(2)(6.97 to 17.03 in the bituminous coal samples and 10.34 to 20.07 in the anthracite samples)reveal the intermediate igneous source rock composition of the *** ratio of the K_(2)O/Al_(2)O_(3)in the ash yield of the bituminous coal samples(0.03 to 0.09)may suggest the presence of kaolinite mixed with montmorillonite,while its range in the ash yield of the anthracite samples(0.16 to 0.27)may imply the presence of illite mixed with *** chemical index of alteration values may suggest the moderate to strong chemical weathering of the source rock under sub-humid to humid climatic *** plot of the bituminous coal samples in the A–CN–K diagram depicts the traditional weathering trend of parent rocks,but the anthracite samples plot near the illite feld and are a bit ofset from the weathering *** may imply the plausible infuences of the potassium-metasomatism at post coalifcation stages,which is further supported by high K_(2)O/Na_(2)O ratio(29.88–80.13).The Fourier transform infrared spectra further reveal the hydroxyl stretching intensity of illite in the anthracite samples substantiating the efect of the epigenetic *** decrease in total kaolinite intensity/compound intensity of quartz and feldspar may provide additional evidence towards this epigenetic event.

System analysts often use software fault prediction models to identify fault-prone modules during the design phase of the software development life cycle. The models help predict faulty modules based on the software metrics that are input to the models. In this study, we consider 20 types of metrics to develop a model using an extreme learning machine associated with various kernel methods. We evaluate the effectiveness of the mode using a proposed framework based on the cost and efficiency in the testing phases. The evaluation process is carried out by considering case studies for 30 object-oriented software systems. Experimental results demonstrate that the application of a fault prediction model is suitable for projects with the percentage of faulty classes below a certain threshold, which depends on the efficiency of fault identification(low: 47.28%; median: 39.24%; high: 25.72%). We consider nine feature selection techniques to remove the irrelevant metrics and to select the best set of source code metrics for fault prediction.

Tracking sources and paleotectonic settings of Mesozoic sandstones in interlinked rift basins of western India:An integrated approach using petrography and heavy mineral chemistry

Based on integration of field,petrographic and heavy mineral chemical data,this study highlights the source and tectonic setting of the Mesozoic sandstones of Kutch,Saurashtra,Narmada and Cambay basins at the western margin of India,formed by the progressive splitting of the eastern *** Kutch Basin is dominated by arkosic sandstone,whereas Saurashtra,Narmada and Cambay basins show the predominance of sub-arkose and *** modal analyses of framework grains in Kutch sandstones indicate basement uplift and transitional continent *** contrast,the sandstones of Saurashtra,Narmada and Cambay basins bear imprints of recycled orogenic and craton interior *** presence of abraded and detrital quartz overgrowth and rounded zircons in most sandstones reveal the recycling of sediments in these *** and rutile mineral compositions constrain the possible lithology of source *** tourmaline mineral chemistry(Ca-Fe_(tot)-Mg plot)suggests the derivation of sediments from various sources,including Li-poor granitoids associated with pegmatites,aplites,Ca-poor metapelites,metapsammites and quartz-tourmaline-rich granitic *** compositions of rutile grains(Cr *** plot)in sandstones indicate metapelitic *** gamut of all mineral chemical data supports the predominance of sediment sources from quartzo-feldspathic rocks with minor inputs from mafic *** on available paleocurrent data and correlation of source compositions,we infer that the Mesozoic sediments of Kutch,Saurashtra,Narmada and Cambay basins were primarily sourced by various lithologies of the Aravalli *** Narmada Basin possibly received additional sediment input from the Bundelkhand Craton.

There has been more than 75%rise in the number of extreme weather events such as drought and flood during 2000-2019 compared to 1980-1999 due to the adverse effects of climate change,causing significant deterioration of the soil and water ***,the growing human population has been exerting pressure on available water and soil resources due to overuse or unplanned *** greenhouse gas emissions have intensified,the fertility of agricultural soils has declined globally due to the exposure of soils to frequent flooding,desertification,and salinization(resulting from extreme weather events).The current review aims to give an overview of damages caused to the soil-plant system by extreme weather events and provide a perspective on how biochar can repair the damaged *** is known to improve soil fertility,increase crop productivity and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions via sustainable recycling of *** properties of biochar such as alkaline pH,high cation exchange capacity,abundant surface functional groups,remarkable surface area,adequate porosity,excellent water holding capacity,and sufficient nutrient retention capacity can help repair the adverse effects of extreme weather events in the soil-plant *** paper recommends some cautious future approaches that can propel biochar’s use in improving the soil-plant systems and promoting sustainable functioning of extreme weather-affected areas via mitigation of the adverse effects.

The low to medium-rank Tertiary coals from Meghalaya,India,are explored for the first time for their comprehensive micro-structural characterization using the FTIR and Raman ***,results from these coals are compared with the Permian medium and high-rank coals to understand the microstructural restyling during coalification and its controls on hydrocarbon *** coal samples are grouped based on the mean random vitrinite reflectance values to record the transformations in spectral attributes with increasing coal *** aliphatic carbon and the apparent aromaticity respond sharply to the first coalification jump(R:0.50%)during low to medium-rank transition and anchizonal metamorphism of the high-rank ***,the Raman band intensity ratio changes during the first coalification jump but remains invari-able in the medium-rank coals and turns subtle again during the onset of pregraphitization in high-rank coals,revealing a polynomial trend with the coal *** Rock-Eval hydrogen index and genetic potential also decline sharply at the first coalification ***,an attempt to comprehend the coal microstructural controls on the hydrocarbon poten-tial reveals that the Tertiary coals comprise highly reactive aliphatic functionalities in the type I-S kerogen,along with the low paleotemperature(74.59-112.28℃)may signify their potential to generate early-mature ***,the presence of type II-II admixed kerogen,a lesser abundance of reactive moieties,and overall moderate paleotemperature(91.93-142.52℃)of the Permian medium-rank coals may imply their mixed hydrocarbon ***,anchizonal metamorphism,polycondensed aromatic microstructure,and high values of paleotemperature(~334.25 to~366.79℃)of the high-rank coals indicate a negligible potential of producing any hydrocarbons.

A comprehensive study of the tribological performance of the Al-Zn-Mg-Cu/Al2O3 composite and its matrix alloy is presented in this paper, with a specific emphasis to identify and model the applicable wear conditions where the composite provides a minimum of 50% reduction in wear rate and 25% lowering of the friction coefficient. Two-body abrasion experiments following Taguchi L27 orthogonal design have been performed separately on alloy and composite materials, both prepared by the stir casting method. The influence of crucial control factors including silicon carbide (SiC) abrasive size, load, sliding distance, and velocity on the percentage variations of wear rates and friction coefficients between alloy and composite have been studied using the analysis of variance technique and full quadratic regression method. The dominant control factors are identified as abrasive size, load, and the interaction between abrasive size and load. This has been verified by establishing the influence of abrasive size and load on variations of wear mechanisms like microcutting, microploughing, and delamination, identified by means of in-depth characterization of worn surfaces and generated debris for both alloy and composite. The selection of applicable tribological condition for the composite has been accomplished by adopting the multi-response optimization technique based on combined desirability approach to obtain concurrent optimization of the percentage variations of wear rates and friction coefficients. Predictive models correlating the superiority of tribological performance of composite with abrasion conditions have been developed, and these are found to be accurate (errors <10%), as determined by confirmatory experiment.

In this paper, a new nonlinear self-tuning PID controller(NSPIDC) is proposed to control the joint position and link deflection of a flexible-link manipulator(FLM) while it is subjected to carry different payloads. Since, payload is a critical parameter of the FLM whose variation greatly influences the controller performance. The proposed controller guarantees stability under change in payload by attenuating the non-modeled higher order dynamics using a new nonlinear autoregressive moving average with exogenous-input(NARMAX) model of the FLM. The parameters of the FLM are identified on-line using recursive least square(RLS) algorithm and using minimum variance control(MVC) laws the control parameters are updated in real-time. This proposed NSPID controller has been implemented in real-time on an experimental set-up. The joint tracking and link deflection performances of the proposed adaptive controller are compared with that of a popular direct adaptive controller(DAC). From the obtained results, it is confirmed that the proposed controller exhibits improved performance over the DAC both in terms of accurate position tracking and quick damping of link deflections when subjected to variable payloads.

Databases for two-dimensional materials host numerous ferromagnetic materials without the vital information of Curie temperature since its calculation involves a manually intensive complex *** this work,we develop a fully automated,hardwareaccelerated,dynamic-translation based computer code,which performs first principles-based computations followed by Heisenberg model-based Monte Carlo simulations to estimate the Curie temperature from the crystal *** employ this code to conduct a high-throughput scan of 786 materials from a database to discover 26 materials with a Curie point beyond 400 *** rapid data mining,we further use these results to develop an end-to-end machine learning model with generalized chemical features through an exhaustive search of the model space as well as the *** discover a few more high Curie point materials from different sources using this data-driven *** material informatics,which agrees well with recent experiments,is expected to foster practical applications of two-dimensional magnetism.
