Acute pancreatitis(AP),chronic pancreatitis(CP)and pancreatic cancer are three distinct pancreatic diseases with different prognoses and treatment ***,it may be difficult to differentiate between benign and malignant *** may be a first symptom of pancreatic cancer,particularly in patients between the ages of 56 and 75 with presumed idiopathic AP who had a concomitant diagnosis of new-onset diabetes mellitus or patients who present with CP at diagnosis of *** these patients,additional imaging is warranted,preferably by endoscopic *** may lead to pancreatic cancer through oncogenic mutations,mostly in patients with hereditary CP,and in patients in whom risk factors for pancreatic cancer(e.g.,nicotine and alcohol abuse)are also *** with PRSS1-mediated CP and patients with a history of autosomal dominant hereditary CP without known genetic mutations may be considered for surveillance for pancreatic *** inflammation may mimic pancreatic cancer by appearing as a focal mass-forming lesion on *** between the above mentioned benign and malignant disease may be facilitated by specific features like the duct-penetrating sign and the duct-to-parenchyma *** efforts are aimed towards developing a superior discriminant between pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer in the form of imaging modalities or *** may aid clinicians in timely diagnosing pancreatic cancer in a potentially curable stage.

Application of the Shrinking Particle Model for the Evaluation of Molecular Recyclability of PET versus Semi-Aromatic Polyesters

The molecular recyclability of poly (ethylene terephthalate) (PET) and three semi-aromatic polyesters poly (phloretic acid) (poly-H), poly (dihydroferulic acid) (poly-G), and poly (dihydrosinapinic acid) (poly-S) is evaluated in this study. PET is an extensively used aromatic polyester, and poly-H, poly-G, and poly-S can be considered semi-aromatic poly (lactic acid) modifications. All these polyesters have been depolymerized at neutral pH and by acid- and base-catalyzed hydrolysis at two temperatures, i.e., 50˚C and 80˚C. Base-catalyzed depolymerization of virgin PET leads to an isolated yield of 38% after 48 hours of reaction at 80˚C. Contrary to these results for PET, almost all the monomers of the semi-aromatic polyesters poly-H, poly-G, and poly-S are recovered with isolated yields larger than 90% at the same temperature after 15 minutes in a facile manner. A shrinking particle model used to determine the global kinetics of the base-catalyzed depolymerization showed that the rate rises with increasing temperature. Using the shrinking particle model, the intrinsic reaction rate constants were determined. It has been demonstrated that the rate coefficients of the depolymerization of the semi-aromatic polyesters poly-H, poly-G, and poly-S are between 2 and 3 orders of magnitude higher than those for PET.

Full scale amendment of a contaminated wood impregnation site with iron water treatment residues

Iron water treatment residues （Fe-WTR） are a free by-product of the treatment of drinking water with high concentration of iron oxides and potential for arsenic sorption. This paper aims at applying Fe- WTR to a contaminated site, measuring the reduction in contaminant leaching, and discussing the design of delivery and mixing strategy for soil stabilization at field scale and present a cost-effective method of soil mixing by connnon contractor machinery. Soil contaminated by As, Cr, and Cu at an abandoned wood impregnation site was amended with 0.22% （dw） Fe-WTR. To evaluate the full scale amendment a 100 mtest site and a control site （without amendment） were monitored for 14 months. Also soil analysis of Fe to evaluate the degree of soil and Fe-WTR mixing was done. Stabilization with Fe-WTR had a significant effect on leachable contaminants, reducing pore water As by 93%, Cu by 91% and Cr by 95% in the upper samplers. Dosage and mixing of Fe-WTR in the soil proved to be difficult in the deeper part of the field, and Pire water concentrations of arsenic was generally *** water logged conditions no increase in dissolved iron or arsenic was observed in the amended soil. Our field scale amendment of contaminated soil was overall successful in decreasing leaching of As, Cr and Cu. With minor improvements in the mixing and delivery strategy, this stabilization method is suggested for use in cases, where leaching ofCu, Cr and As constitutes a risk for groundwater and freshwater.

Alternatives for large-scale production of cultured beef: A review

Cultured beef is a method where stem cells from skeletal muscle of cows are cultured in vitro to gain edible muscle tissue. For large-scale production of cultured beef, the culture technique needs to become more efficient than today＇s 2-dimensional（2D） standard technique that was used to make the first cultured hamburger. Options for efficient large-scale production of stem cells are to culture cells on microcarriers, either in suspension or in a packed bed bioreactor, or to culture aggregated cells in suspension. We discuss the pros and cons of these systems as well as the possibilities to use the systems for tissue culture. Either of the production systems needs to be optimized to achieve an efficient production of cultured beef. It is anticipated that the optimization of large-scale cell culture as performed for other stem cells can be translated into successful protocols for bovine satellite cells resulting in resource and cost efficient cultured beef.

Quality of life after laparoscopic and open colorectal surgery: A systematic review

This study was a systematic review of the available evidence on quality of life in patients after laparoscopic or open colorectal surgery. A systematic review was performed of all randomized clinical trials (RCTs) that compared laparoscopic with open colorectal surgery. Study selection, quality assessment and data extraction were carried out independently by two reviewers. Primary endpoint was quality of life after laparoscopic and open colorectal surgery, as assessed by validated questionnaires. The search resulted in nine RCTs that included 2263 patients. Shortand long-term results of these RCTs were described in 13 articles. Postoperative follow-up ranged from 2 d to 6.7 years. Due to clinical heterogeneity, no meta-analysis could be conducted. Four RCTs did not show any difference in quality of life between laparoscopic or open colorectal surgery. The remaining five studies reported a better quality of life in favor of the laparoscopic group on a few quality of life scales at time points ranging from 1 wk to 2 years after surgery. In conclusion, based on presently available high-level evidence, this systematic review showed no clinically relevant differences in postoperative quality of life between laparoscopic and open colorectal surgery.

Hirschsprung’s disease(HD)is a congenital disorder,characterized by aganglionosis in the distal part of the gastrointestinal *** complete surgical resection of the aganglionic segment,both constipation and fecal incontinence persist in a considerable number of patients with limited treatment *** is growing evidence for structural abnormalities in the ganglionic bowel proximal to the aganglionosis in both humans and animals with HD,which may play a role in persistent bowel *** abnormalities include:(1)Histopathological abnormalities of enteric neural cells;(2)Imbalanced expression of neurotransmitters and neuroproteins;(3)Abnormal expression of enteric pacemaker cells;(4)Abnormalities of smooth muscle cells;and(5)Abnormalities within the extracellular ***,a better understanding of these previously unrecognized neuropathological abnormalities may improve follow-up and treatment in patients with HD suffering from persistent bowel dysfunction following surgical *** the long term,further combination of clinical and neuropathological data will hopefully enable a translational step towards more individual treatment for HD.

本文有助于研究特定国家投资者在非洲投资的风险认知差异这一金融研究。在本文中,将对比分别为中国和荷兰的政策性银行和机构进行非洲投资的中国与荷兰投资者的风险认知。现有文献指出,中西方投资者对各种风险的认识不同。然而在中国与荷兰投资者在非洲市场的风险认知方面,没有结论性研究。笔者通过调查结果的数据分析,研究了中国与荷兰的金融机构投资者在非洲进行投资时,在风险认知上有何不同。来自四个不同金融机构的18名荷兰投资者和15名中国投资者在利式态度量表上排列了26种风险因素。通过下面的分布拟合法,两个样本均按重要程度排列这些风险因素。结果显示,尽管两个样本的风险认知具有各种相似性,在重要风险的排列上存在本质上的不同。中国投资者认为政治风险,例如冲突、政府的稳定性和官僚素质以及民族信仰矛盾等非常重要。荷兰投资者则认为项目风险、企业管理、金融项目风险以及环境和社会风险很重要。两个样本在风险认知上的相似性有：都认为腐败风险一般重要,环境和社会风险很重要,国家的经济和金融风险不太重要。研究表明,基于对风险认知存在相似性,在非洲市场的合作具有共同基础。

Metabolic and hepatic effects of liraglutide,obeticholic acid and elafibranor in diet-induced obese mouse models of biopsy-confirmed nonalcoholic steatohepatitis

AIM To evaluate the pharmacodynamics of compounds in clinical development for nonalcoholic steatohepatitis(NASH) in obese mouse models of *** Male wild-type C57 BL/6 J mice(DIO-NASH) and Lep^(ob/ob)(ob/ob-NASH) mice were fed a diet high in trans-fat(40%), fructose(20%) and cholesterol(2%) for 30 and 21 wk, respectively. Prior to treatment, all mice underwent liver biopsy for confirmation and stratification of liver steatosis and fibrosis, using the nonalcoholic fatty liver disease activity score(NAS) and fibrosis staging system. The mice were kept on the diet and received vehicle, liraglutide(0.2 mg/kg, SC, BID), obeticholic acid(OCA, 30 mg/kg PO, QD), or elafibranor(30 mg/kg PO, QD) for eight weeks. Within-subject comparisons were performed on changes in steatosis, inflammation, ballooning degeneration, and fibrosis scores. In addition, compound effects were evaluated by quantitative liver histology, including percent fractional area of liver fat, galectin-3, and collagen 1 *** Liraglutide and elafibranor, but not OCA, reduced body weight in both models. Liraglutide improved steatosis scores in DIO-NASH mice only. Elafibranor and OCA reduced histopathological scores of hepatic steatosis and inflammation in both models, but only elafibranor reduced fibrosis severity. Liraglutide and OCA reduced total liver fat, collagen 1 a1, and galectin-3 content, driven by significant reductions in liver weight. The individual drug effects on NASH histological endpoints were supported by global gene expression(RNA sequencing) and liver lipid *** DIO-NASH and ob/ob-NASH mouse models show distinct treatment effects of liraglutide, OCA, and elafibranor, being in general agreement with corresponding findings in clinical trials for NASH. The present data therefore further supports the clinical translatability and utility of DIO-NASH and ob/ob-NASH mouse models of NASH for probing the therapeutic efficacy of compounds in preclinical d
