A slender cylindrical member is the fundamental component of many coas.al and offshore *** is essential to unders.and the action of breaking waves on structural members since,when these members.are subjected to wave impact load,the structural damages.and failures may be *** the present study,an experimental investigation has been carried out to measure the response of the slender vertical cylinder subjected to breaking wave *** measurements were made in order to estimate the total force acting on the *** empirical relation is es.ablished between total impact force and the wave steepness parameter which dictates the intensity of the *** rise time is.an important parameter dictating the impact *** acceleration and strain measurements were made to evaluate the response of the *** has been derived from structure *** deflection due to the moderate plunging differs by two order more than severe plunging *** rate is.another important consideration for the impact *** higher strain rate increases the resis.ance of the *** the breaking wave impact on the cylinder,the strain rate varies from 102 to 10-4.

Numerical modeling of nonlinear sloshing of liquid in a container coupled with barge subjected to regular excitation

The sloshing phenomenon of liquid in a partially filled tank mounted rigidly within a barge exposed to regular wave field has been considered for numerical *** paper details the numerical scheme developed in time domain to study the interaction of wave induced barge motion with sloshing oscillations in a partially filled *** sloshing time history results obtained from the numerical scheme adopted are validated with experimental measurements of Nasar et al.(2008)The harmonics present in the sloshing oscillation for the liquid fill levels(25%,50%and 75%)have been analyzed.

The sagar Is.and,located north of the Bay of Bengal,intercepts the flow in the Hoogly estuary that comprises.a network of several estuarine distributaries.and creeks,which is considered to be one of the largest estuarine systems in the *** Hooghly River experiences.a tidal range in the order of about 4 m,due to which the tide-generated currents drive the sediments which are continuously set in *** temple,Kapil Muni(21°38'15.35"N,88°4'30.56"E)is located on the south-western side of sagar Is.and,where an annual religious festival and rituals with about a million pilgrims is *** pertinent erosion problem at a rate of about 5 m/year is prevalent at the site has considerably reduced the beach width,thereby,resulting in reduced s.ace for religious.as well as recreational activities.along the coast.A novel cross-section for the proposed submerged reef using geosynthetic materials is designed considering the different sitespecific,environmental,and socio-economic *** submerged reef can effectively be devised to redistribute the current circulation pattern and trap the sediment for beach *** performance of such a structure depends on its geometrical and structural characteristics,the location of the reef(i.e.)the water depth at the toe,dis.ance from the coastline,wave-structure interaction,sediment transport and local morpho *** aforesaid criteria were optimized using a numerical model which predicted the average residual velocity in the site to be in the order of about 1 m/*** to logistical constraints geosynthetic materials had to be *** detailed design of such a system arrived through numerical modelling and field measurements.are presented and discussed in this paper.
