In the coal-based combustion and gasification processes, the mineral matter contained in the coal (predominantly oxides), is left as an incombustible residue, termed ash. Commonly, ash deposits are formed on the heat absorbing surfaces of the exposed equipment of the combustion/gasification processes. These deposits lead to the occurrence of slagging or fouling and. consequently, reduced process efficiency. The ash fusion temperatures (AFTs) signify the temperature range over which the ash deposits are formed on the heat absorbing surfaces of the process equipment. Thus, for designing and operating the coal-based processes, it is important to have mathematical models predicting accurately the four types of AFTs namely initial deformation temperature, softening temperature, hemispherical temperature, and flow temperature. Several linear/nonlinear models with varying prediction accuracies and complexities are available for the AFT prediction. Their principal drawback is their applicability to the coals originating from a limited number of geographical regions. Accordingly, this study presents computational intelligenee (CI) based nonlinear models to predict the four AFTs using the oxide composition of the coal ash as the model input. The CI methods used in the modeling are genetic programming (GP), artificial neural networks, and support vector regression. The no table features of this study are that the models with a better AFT prediction and generalization performanee, a wider application potential, and reduced complexity, have been developed. Among the Ci-based models, GP and MLP based models have yielded overall improved performanee in predicting all four AFTs.

Rare earth metals （REMs） are a series of 17 elements that have widespread and unique applications in high technology, power generation, communications, and defense industries. These resources are also pivotal to emergent sustainable energy and car- bon alternative technologies. Recovery of REMs is interesting due to its high market prices along with various industrial applications. Conventional technologies, viz. precipitation, filtration, liquid-liquid extraction, solid-liquid extraction, ion exchange, super critical extraction, electrowinning, electrorefining, electroslag ref＇ming, etc., which have been developed for the recovery of REMs, are not economically attractive. Biosorption represents a biotechnological innovation as well as a cost effective excellent tool for the recovery of rare earth metals from aqueous solutions. A variety ofbiomaterials such as algae, fungi, bacteria, resin, activated carbon, etc., have been reported to serve as potential adsorbents for the recovery of REMs. The metal binding mechanisms, as well as the parameters in- fluencing the uptake of rare earth metals and isotherm modeling are presented here. This article provides an overview of past achievements and current scenario of the biosorption studies carried out using some promising biosorbents which could serve as an economical means for recovering REMs. The experimental findings reported by different workers will provide insights into this re- search frontier.

Two austenitic Mn steels(Fe-17 Mn and Fe-17 Mn-3 Al(wt%, so as the follows)) were subjected to thermomechanical processing(TMP) consisting of forging followed by solutionization and hot rolling. The rolled samples were annealed at 650 and 800°C to relieve the internal stress and to induce recrystallization. The application of TMP and heat treatment to the Fe-17 Mn/Fe-17 Mn-3 Al steels refined the austenite grain size from 169 μm in the as-solutionized state to 9–13 μm, resulting in a substantial increase in hardness from HV 213 to HV 410 for the Fe-17 Mn steel and from HV 210 to HV 387 for the Fe-17 Mn-3 Al steel. The elastic modulus values, as evaluated by the nanoindentation technique, increased from(175 ± 11) to(220 ± 12) GPa and from(163 ± 15) to(205 ± 13) GPa for the Fe-17 Mn and Fe-17 Mn-3 Al steels, respectively. The impact energy of the thermomechanically processed austenitic Mn steels was lower than that of the steels in their as-solutionized state. The addition of Al to the Fe-17 Mn steel decreased the hardness and elastic modulus but increased the impact energy.

New method for rekindling the explosive waves in Maxwellian space plasmas

Our interest is to study the nonlinear wave phenomena in complex plasma constituents with Maxwellian electrons and ions. The main aim is to use a new method known as the(G′/G)method to exhibit the effects of dust charge fluctuations on the evolution of nonlinear waves. The coherent features of the shock and solitary waves along with the generation of high-energy waves have been amplified through the solution of the Korteweg–de Vries–Burgers equation,and the different natures of the waves were found successfully. Results are discussed graphically with the thoughtful choice of typical plasma parameters from different space plasma environments, exactly those found in cosmic dusty plasmas laden in ionospheric auroral region,radial spokes of Saturn's rings, planetary nebulae and solar F-corona region. All conclusions are in good accordance with the actual occurrences and could be of interest to further investigations of space. Moreover, the applicability of the present method is hoped to be a great enhancement by its use as ingenious mechanism used to evaluate the soliton dynamics and Burgers shock waves.

Response surface methodology （RSM） employing 5-level Box-Behnken design was used to optimize the biosorption of cerium（III） onto biowaste materials of animal and plant origin viz. prawn carapace （PC） and corn style （CS）. Various process parameters viz. pH （A：3.0-9.0）, biomass dosage （B：0.05-0.35 g/L）, initial metal concentration （C：50-350 mg/L）, contact time （D：2-6 h） and temperature （E：20-60 ℃ were chosen for optimization. A log transformation was suggested by the Box-Cox plot in the present case. A low p-value of〈0.0001 validated the significance of the model. Maximum Ce（III） uptake of 218.3 mg/g for PC and 180.2 mg/g for CS was noted under optimum conditions. Among the equilibrium isotherms, Freundlich model was found to be the best fitted one suggesting a heterogeneous mode of biosorption on PC whereas Langmuir model showed the best fit suggesting homogeneous mode of cerium biosorption on CS. This was further confirmed by scanning electron microscopy （SEM）. Kinetic studies showed better applicability of pseudo-first order model suggesting physisorption as phenomena underlying the process. Film-diffusion was suggested by the non-linearity of the Boyd plot. Thermodynamic studies showed that the process was endothermic and spontaneous. FTIR analysis confirmed a major involvement of the participation of amide, amines, ketones and primary alcohol groups during Ce（III） biosorption. EDAX analysis confirmed the major participation of carbon group during Ce（III） biosorption. This was the first report on parameter optimization of Ce（III） biosorption onto biowaste materials using 5-level Box-Behnken experimental design which might be helpful for the recovery of Ce（III） from aqueous environment.

Assessment of ecological risk(ER)is a key approach to adapting and mitigating ecological deterioration in cities of developing *** developing countries,the ecological landscapes such as vegetation cover,water bodies,and wetlands are highly vulnerable due to rapid urban ***,urban ER(UER)assessment and its drivers are crucial to guide ecological protection as well as *** study aims to explore the spatiotemporal pattern of UER and the impact of urban spatial form on UER in the Kolkata Megacity Region(KMR),*** study developed a UER index and used spatial regression models across the urban *** ER has been assessed at city scale as well as grid-scale(2 km x 2 km and 5 km x 5 km)from 2000 to *** results showed that ER has substantially increased over the last 20 *** urban centres with very high and high ER substantially increased,*** 21.95%in 2000 to 31.70%in *** and its surrounding urban centres were mostly characterized by very high and high *** was influenced by spatial variables(such as land use and landscapes pattern).However,remote sensing parameters were weakly related to *** spatial lag model(SLM)(R^(2)=0.8686)was found to be better fit model than spatial error model(SEM)(R^(2)=0.8661)and ordinary linear regression model(OLS)(R^(2)=0.8641).Thus,the findings of the study can improve research and a comprehensive framework for urban ecological resources and provide a scientific basis for urban ecosystem planning and *** addition to this,it will guarantee the sustainable utilization of urban ecosystems.

Rapid urbanization has emerged as one of the most critical challenges to ecological sustainability in urban *** developing countries,the degradation of the ecosystem is more prominent due to the lack of urban ***,it has become urgent for researchers to identify the ecological efficiency(EE)changes imposed by urban expansion and promote sustainable land use *** study aims to develop a comprehensive urban ecological efficiency(UEE)framework in the Kolkata Metropolitan Area(KMA),India,from 2000 to *** component analysis(PCA)was used to develop a remote sensing-based UEE index(UEEI)based on five effective ecological parameters(Greenness,Dryness,Heat,Wetness and vegetation health.A single sensitivity parameter was also calculated to determine the role of a single parameter based on which management strategies can be carried *** findings showed that(i)there were substantial deteriorations of UEE in the last 20 *** 2000 the areas with good EE were about 65.5%which declined to 53.72%in 2010 and 20.87%in *** areas with good UEE decreased 68%and 61%from 2000 to 2020 and 2010 to 2020,respectively;(ii)the areas with good UEE were 52%in 2000,while 38%in *** urban centres(Bhadreshwar,Champdani,Srirampur,Bally,Howrah,Kamarhati,Baranagar,Dum Dum,South Dum Dum,Rajarhat,Bidhannagar)located around the Kolkata megacity are characterized by poor and very poor EE(ranges of 0.60-1.00).Thus,spatiotemporal pattern of UEE could assist to clarify the administrative responsibilities as well as *** addition to this,the UEE framework can help for scientific guidance of urban ecosystem protection and restoration through comprehensive spatial landscape planning.

Based on quasipotential analysis, a plasma sheath is studied through the derivation of the Sagdeev potential equation in dusty plasma coexisting with adiabatically heated electrons and ions. Salient features as to the existence of sheaths are shown by solving the Sagdeev potential equation through the Runge–Kutta method, with appropriate consideration of adiabatically heated electrons and ions in the dynamical system. It has been shown that adiabatic heating of plasma sets a limit to the critical dust speed depending on the densities and Mach number, and it is believed that its role is very important to the sheath. One present problem is the contraction of the sheath region whereby dust grains levitated into the sheath lead to a crystallization similar to the formation of nebulons and are compressed to a larger chunk of the dust cloud by shrinking of the sheath. Our overall observations advance knowledge of sheath formation and are expected to be of interest in astroplasmas.
