The paper highlights the Phyto-diversity and indigenous uses an ecosystem existing in Lahaul Valley of tribal district of Lahaul and Spiti in Himacjhal Pradesh, India. This is one of the most preferred tourist spot especially for foreigners. The cold desert area of India is known for its specific topography, sense climate and unique vegetation. The valley is rich in high value medicinal wealth and local inhabitants (Buddhist) practice the Tebetan Amchi System of Medicine. Keeping in view the continuous pressure on nature, this paper reflects the Phyto-diversity of Valley, with reference to medicinal and aromatic plants and conserva-tion mechanisms to protect the valuable wealth of the valley and also suggests effective ecotourisim planning of the study area.

The nano sized TiO2 has been synthesized by sol gel process. The titaniumisopropaxide diluted in propanol hydrolyzed under acidic condition to form a gel. The solvent from gel pores has been extracted at ambient pressure resulting in nano sized TiO2 crystallites. The crystalline phase of TiO2 could be assigned to anatase structure. An average crystallite size is about 12 nm. The surface area of TiO2 found to be 235 m2/g. The TiO2 nanocrystallites thus produced were blended with polysulphone to form its beads for ease of operation. These beads of TiO2 were used as photo catalyst in conjunction with H2O2 oxidizer in presence of UV light (254 nm) for treating the 50 ppm Rhodamine B aqueous solution. The solution decolorized within 10 minutes resulting in disappearance of absorption peak at around 600 nm in UV spectrometry. The organic entities degrade in about 60 minutes. The beads of nano sized TiO2 could be easily recovered from the treated effluent for further use.

AIM： To evaluate the effect of an intravenous bolus of mannitol in altering brain metabolites, brain water content, brain parenchyma volume, cerebrospinal fluid （CSF） volume and clinical signs in controls and in patients with acute liver failure （ALF） and acute- on-chronic liver failure （ACLF）, by comparing changes in conventional magnetic resonance imaging （MRI）, in vivo proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy （PMRS） and diffusion tensor imaging （DTI） before and after its ***： Five patients each with ALF and ACLF in grade 3 or 4 hepatic encephalopathy and with clinical signs of raised intracranial pressure were studied along with five healthy volunteers. After baseline MRI, an intravenous bolus of 20% mannitol solution was given over 10 min in controls as well as in patients with ALF and ACLE Repeat MRI for the same position was acquired 30 rnin after completing the rnannitol injection. RESULTS： No statistically significant difference was observed between controls and patients with ALF and ACLF in metabolite ratios, DTI metrics and brain volume or CSF volume following 45 rain of mannitol infusion. There was no change in clinical status at the end of post-mannitol imaging. CONCLUSION： The osmotic effect of mannitol did not result in significant reduction of brain water content, alteration in metabolite ratios or any change in the clinical status of these patients during or within 45 min of mannitol infusion.

AIM:To determine the incidence and factors responsible for anastomotic leaks and stricture following anterior resection(AR)and its subsequent ***:Retrospective analysis of data from 108 patients with rectal carcinoma who underwent AR or low anterior resection(LAR)to identify the various preoperative,operative,and post operative factors that might have influence on anastomotic leaks and ***:There were 68 males and 40 females with an average of 47 years(range 21-75 years).The median distance of the tumor from the anal verge was 8 cm(range 3-15 cm).Sixty(55.6%)patients underwent handsewn anastomosis and 48(44.4%)were *** median operating time was 3.5 h(range2.0-7.5 h).Sixteen(14.6%)patients had an anastomotic *** these,11 patients required reexploration and five were managed *** anastomotic leak rate was similar in patients with and without diverting stoma(8/60,13.4%with stoma and 8/48;16.7%without stoma).In 15(13.9%)patients,resection margins were positive for ***(17.6%)patients developed anastomotic strictures at a median duration of 8 mo(range 3-20 mo).Among these,15 patients were successfully managed with per-anal *** multivariate analysis,advance age(>60 years)was the only risk factor for anastomotic leak(P=0.004).On the other hand,anastomotic leak(P=0.00),mucin positive tumor(P =0.021),and lower rectal growth(P=0.011)were found as risk factors for the development of an anastomotic ***:Advance age is a risk factor for an anastomotic *** anastomotic leak,a mucin-secreting tumor,and lower rectal growth predispose patients to develop anastomotic strictures.

BACKGROUND Aberrant activation of phosphorylated form of glycogen synthase kinase-3β[pS9 GSK-3β(Serine 9 phosphorylation)] is known to trigger Wnt/β-catenin signal cascade but its clinicohistopathological implications in bladder carcinogenesis remain *** To investigate the diagnostic and prognostic relevance of expressions of pS9 GSK-3β, β-catenin and its target genes in the pathobiology of bladder *** Bladder tumor tissues from ninety patients were analyzed for quantitative expression and cellular localization of pS9 GSK-3β by immunohistochemical(IHC) staining. Real time-quantitative polymerase chain reaction and IHC were done to check the expression of β-catenin, Cyclin D1, Snail and Slug at transcriptome and protein level respectively. Clinicohistopathological variables were obtained from histology reports, follow up and OPD visits of *** of the markers were statistically correlated with these variables to determine their significance in clinical setting. Results were analysed using SPSS20.0 *** Aberrant(low or no membranous/high nuclear/high cytoplasmic) expression of pS9 GSK-3β was noted in 51% patients and found to be significantly associated with tumor stage and tumor grade(P = 0.01 and 0.04; Mann Whitney U test).Thirty one percent tumors exhibited aberrant co-expression of pS9 GSK-3β andβ–catenin proteins and showed strong statistical association with tumor stage,tumor type, smoking/tobacco chewing status(P = 0.01, 0.02 and 0.04, MannWhitney U test) and shorter overall survival probabilities of patients(P = 0.02;Kaplan Meier test). Nuclear immunostaining of Cyclin D1 in tumors with altered pS9 GSK-3β/β–catenin showed relevance with tumor stage, grade and ***β–catenin and pS9 GSK-3β proteins are identified as markers of diagnostic/prognostic significance in disease pathogenesis.
