Dielectric Relaxation and Conductivity of Ba(mg_(1/3)Ta_(2/3))O_3 and Ba(Zn_(1/3)Ta_(2/3))O_3

The frequency dependent dielectric properties of barium magnesium tantalate （BmT）, Ba（mgl/3Ta2/3）03 and barium zinc tantalate （BZT）, Ba（Znl/3Ta2/3）03 synthesized by solid state reaction technique have been investigated at various temperatures by impedance spectroscopy. BmT and BZT possess cubic structure with lattice parameter a = 0.708 and 0.451 nm, respectively. The resonance peaks due to dielectric relaxation processes are observed in the loss tangent of these oxides. The relaxation in the samples is polydispersive in nature. The temperature dependence of dc conductivity, the most probable relaxation frequency （corn） obtained from tanδ vs logo） plots and ωm obtained from imaginary parts of the complex electrical modulus vs Iogω plots follow the Arrhenius behavior. According to these Arrhenius plots the activation energies of BmT and BZT are about 0.54 and 0.40 eV, respectively. Thus the results indicate that samples are semiconducting in nature. The frequency-dependent electrical data are analyzed in the framework of conductivity and electric modulus formalisms. Both these formalisms show qualitative similarities in relaxation time. Our study points that for complex perovskite oxides with general formula A（B＇B＇）03, the dielectric properties significantly depend on the atomic radii of both A and B type cations. BmT and BZT exhibit enhancement in dielectric property compared to their niobate counterparts. They may find several technological applications such as in capacitors, resonators and filters owing to their high dielectric constant and low loss tangent.

Glassy carbon electrode modified with multi-walled carbon nanotubes sensor for the quantihication of antihistamine drug pheniramine in solubilized systems

A sensitive electroanalytical method for quantification of pheniramine in pharmaceutical formulation has been investigated on the basis of the enhanced electrochemical response at glassy carbon electrode modified with multi-walled carbon nanotubes in the presence of sodium lauryl *** experimental results suggest that the phcniramine in anionic surfactant solution exhibits electrocatalytic effect resulting in a marked enhancement of the peak current *** current response is linearly dependent on the concentration of pheniramine in the range 200-1500 μg/mL with correlation coefficient *** limit of detection is 58.31 μg/m *** modified electrode shows good sensitivity and repeatability.

Prevalences of oligozoospermia and azoospermia in male partners of infertile couples from different parts of India

Aim： To determine whether there was any regional variation in the prevalence of azoospermia, oligozoospermia and mean sperm counts in male partners of infertile couples from different parts of India. methods： Data on 16 714 semen samples analyzed over the past five years from six different laboratories located in five cities of India were collated and evaluated. Results： There was a regional variation in the prevalence of azoospermia. The prevalence of azoospermia was extremely high in Kurnool and Jodhpur （38.3% and 37.4%, respectively）. There was also a regional variation in the prevalence of oligozoospermia （51%） in Kurnool. There was no significant difference in the mean sperm counts in normospermic men. Conclusion： There is a regional variation in the prevalence of azoospermia and oligozoospermia in the male partners of infertile couples from different regions of India. The prevalence of azoospermia in Kumool and Jodhpur is higher than any other worldwide reported literature, Further studies need to be carded out to determine the cause of this. （Asian J Androl 2006 Jan; 8： 89-93）

An effective interionic potential calculation with long range Coulomb, charge transfer interaction, covalency effect, short range overlap repulsion extended, van der Waals interaction, and zero point energy effect is implemented to investigate the pressure dependent structural phase transition (ZnS-type (B3) to NaCl-type (B1) structure), and mechanical, elastic, and thermodynamic properties of silicon carbide (SiC). Both charge transfer interaction and covalency effect are important in revealing the pressure induced structural stability, Cauchy discrepancy, anisotropy factor, melting temperature, shear modulus, Young’s modulus, and Grüneisen parameter. We also present the results for the temperature dependent behaviors of normalized volume, hardness, heat capacity, and thermal expansion coefficient. SiC is mechanically stiffened and thermally softened as inferred from pressure (temperature) dependent elastic constant’s behavior. The Pugh’s ratio ∅ = B T / G H, the Poisson’s ratio v, and the Cauchy’s pressure C 12–C 44 for SiC ceramic confirm its brittle nature.

Efficacy and safety of combined endoscopic cyanoacrylate injection and balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous occlusion(BRTOcc)of gastrorenal shunts in patients with bleeding gastric fundal varices

Background:Endoscopic cyanoacrylate(glue)injection of fundal varices may result in life-threatening embolic adverse events through spontaneous gastrorenal shunts(GRSs).Balloon-occluded retrograde transvenous occlusion(BRTOcc)of GRSs during cyanoacrylate injection may prevent serious systemic glue embolization through the *** study aimed to evaluate the efficacy and safety of a combined endoscopic–interventional radiologic(BRTOcc)approach for the treatment of bleeding fundal ***:We retrospectively analysed the data of patients who underwent the combined procedure for acutely bleeding fundal varices between January 2010 and April *** were extracted for patient demographics,clinical and endoscopic findings,technical details,and adverse events of the endoscopic–BRTOcc approach and patient ***:We identified 30 patients(13[43.3%]women;median age 58[range,25–92]years)with gastroesophageal varices type 2(53.3%,16/30)and isolated gastric varices type 1(46.7%,14/30)per Sarin classification,and median clinical and endoscopic follow-up of 151(range,4–2,513)days and 98(range,3–2,373)days,*** median volume of octylcyanoacrylate:Lipiodol injected was 7(range,4–22)***-related adverse events occurred in three(10.0%)patients,including transient fever,non-life-threatening pulmonary glue embolism,and an injection-site ulcer *** gastric variceal obturation was achieved in 18 of 21 patients(85.7%)at endoscopic *** variceal rebleeding was confirmed in one patient(3.3%)and suspected in two patients(6.7%).Although no procedure-related deaths occurred,the overall mortality rate was 46.7%,primarily from liver-disease progression and ***:The combined endoscopic–BRTOcc procedure is a relatively safe and effective technique for bleeding fundal varices,with a high rate of variceal obturation and a low rate of serious adverse events.

The present status and future prospects of forest vegetation in part of Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve(a World Heritage Site),India

We studied forest vegetation at Lata-Tolma- Phagti, a protected area and part of Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve in the western Himalaya. We analyzed community composition, population structure, regeneration patterns, and projected development of future compositional patterns. We sampled ten 10 x 10 m quadrat for tree species in each of 30 forest stands. We sampled shrubs in ten 5 x 5 m quadrat, and herbs in twenty 1 x 1 m quadrat within each forest stand. We recorded 248 plant species from 8 forest communities. Broadly the demographic profiles at study sites exhibited progressive structures suggesting long term persistence of the communities/species. Density--diameter distribution revealed greater proportions of seedlings and a significant decline （P 〈 0.05） in the proportion of trees in older age/size classes. Of the 23 recorded tree species, 13.0 % showed good, 52.2 % fair, 26.1% poor and 8.7 % no regeneration. Differences in regeneration by species are indicative of future foreststructure and dynamics. Assessment of changes in structure of forest types provides baseline data for development of priorities for conservation of other representative land- scapes in the reserve as well as in the Himalaya.
