Pre-harvest sprouting(PHS)is one of the serious global issues in wheat *** of quantitative trait loci(QTL)and closely-linked markers is greatly helpful for wheat *** the present study,a recombinant inbred line(RIL)population derived from the cross of Zhongmai 578(ZM578)/Jimai 22(JM22)and parents were phenotyped in five environments and genotyped by the wheat 50 K single-nucleotide polymorphism(SNP)*** QTL of germination index(GI),***-3A and ***-5A,were detected,explaining 4.33%–5.58%and 4.43%–8.02%of the phenotypic variances,*** resistant effect of ***-3A was contributed by JM22,whereas that of ***.5A was from *** two QTL did not correspond to any previously identified genes or genetic loci for PHSrelated traits according to their locations in the Chinese Spring reference genome,indicating that they are likely to be new loci for PHS *** kompetitive allele-specific PCR(KASP)markers K_AX-109605367and K_AX-179559687 flanking ***-3A,and K_AX-111258240 and K_AX-109402944flanking ***-5A,were developed and validated in a natural population of 100 wheat *** distribution frequency of resistance alleles at ***-3A and ***-5A loci were 82.7%and57.1%,respectively,in the natural *** findings provide new QTL and tightly linked KASP markers for improvement of PHS resistance in wheat.

Boundary effect in digital pathology is a phenomenon where the tissue shapes of biopsy samples get distorted during the sampling *** morphological pattern of an epithelial layer is greatly ***,the shape deformation model can normalise the distortions,but it needs a 2D *** theory,on the other hand,is not yet tested on digital pathology ***,this work proposed a curvature detection to reduce the boundary effects and estimates the epithelial *** boundary effect on the tissue surfaces is normalised using the frequency of a curve deviates from being a straight *** epithelial layer’s depth is estimated from the tissue edges and the connected nucleolus ***,the textural and spatial features along the estimated layer are used for dysplastic tissue *** proposed method achieved better performance compared to the whole tissue regions in terms of detecting dysplastic *** result shows a leap of kappa points from fair to a substantial agreement with the expert’s ground truth *** improved results demonstrate that curvatures have been effective in reducing the boundary effects on the epithelial layer of ***,quantifying and classifying the morphological patterns for dysplasia can be *** textural and spatial features on the detected epithelial layer can capture the changes in tissue.

INTRODUCTION Retroperitoneal malignant teratoma is a rare congenital tumor,representing 1%-10%of retroperitoneal tumors in children.12 A pathological migration of primitive germ cells to the genital ridges can stop at various levels,which explains the localizations of these tumors.3 The diagnosis is done either prena-tally,or later in front of an abdominal mass.45 We reported a case treated in our department and reviewed the diagnostic and therapeutic aspects of its management.

Synthesis and characterization of hierarchical nanoporous HY zeolites from acid-activated kaolin

Hierarchical nanoporous HY zeolites were synthesized from acid-activated kaolin. The hierarchical factor （HF） was maximized by varying the aging and crystallization time. This was achieved by maximizing the external surface area without greatly reducing the micropore volume. The resulting products were characterized using X-ray diffraction （XRD）, X-ray fluorescence, N2 adsorption, and NH3 temperature-programmed desorption. The nanoporous HY zeolite with the highest HF was obtained by aging for 48 h and a crystallization time of 24 h. The acidiW and crystallinity varied depending on the operating parameters. Incorporation of an appropriate amount of NaCI was also vital in maximizing the HF, crystallinity, and acidity. The sample crystallinities were determined by comparing their XRD peak intensities with those of a conventional Y zeolite. The results show that optimizing this process could lead to a widely acceptable commercial route for FIY zeolite production.

Pancreatic islet regeneration and some liver biochemical parameters of leaf extracts of Vitex doniana in normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic albino rats

Objective:To test two water soluble extracts(aqueous and ethanolic) obtained from the leaves of Vitex doniana in normal and streptozotocin-induced diabetic rats for their effects on pancreatic endocrine tissues and serum marker enzymes for a period of 21 ***:A total of 55 rate divided into 11 groups of 5 rats each were assigned into diabetic and non-diabetic- groups and fallowed by a daily administration of ethanolic and aqueous extracts for21 *** 1 was the normal control while group 7 was treated with standard ***:The histopathological studies of the diabetic rats indicated increase in the volume density of islets,percent of β-cells and size of islet in the groups that received the plant extracts,which suggested regeneration of β-cells along with p-eells repairs,as compared with the non-treated diabetic control which showed complete degeneration of the islet *** was significant reduction(P0.01) in the serum activities of marker enzymes was observed for non-diabetic treated *** of total bilirubin,direct bilirubin and unconjugated bilirubin showed that diabetic control group was significantly higher(P0.01) in total bilirubin and direct bilirubin compared with the normal ***:This herbal therapy appears to bring about repair/regeneration of the endocrine pancreas and hepatic cells protection in the diabetic rat.

A novel, cost-effective, and simple electrocatalyst based on a Pt-modified glassy carbon electrode(GCE), using cetyltrimethylammonium bromide(CTAB) as a cationic surfactant, is reported. Amphiphilic CTAB molecules were adsorbed on GCE by immersion in a CTAB solution. The positively charged hydrophilic layer, which consisted of small aggregates of average size less than 100 nm,was used for accumulation and complexation of [PtCl2. anions by immersing the electrode in Ksolution. The modified electrode was characterized using scanning electron microscopy,energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy, impedance spectroscopy, and electrochemical methods. The electrocatalytic activity of the Pt particles in the hydrogen evolution reaction(HER) was *** results show that the CTAB surfactant enhances the electrocatalytic activity of the Pt particles in the HER in acidic solution.

Feeding studies of radiation sterilization ready to eat foods on sprague dawley rats: <i>In vivo</i>

Development of gamma irradiated high moisture traditional dishes derived from locally traditional récipe aimed for specific target groups as ready to eat foods for ensuring the safety, quality, and security purposes have been conducted. The formation of free radicals in the traditional foods induced by ionizing radiation is a part of toxicological studies on irradiated traditional foods was to provide local scientific data base on safe- ty *** different foods such as steamed gold fish, spicy curry beef and soy sauces beef were individually vacuum packed in a laminate pouch of PET 12 μm/LDPE 2 μm/AL-Foil 7 μm/LDPE 2 μm/LLDPE 50 μm (PET/Al-Foil/ LLDPE), then kept at frozen state. The frozen samples were maintained in cryogenic condition along the irradiation process by placing the samples in styrofoam boxes filled with dry ice then irradiated with gamma rays at the dose of 45 kGy. The irradiated samples were kept and stored at normal temperature prior to test. Both irradiated conventional rat’s feed at normal temperature with the dose of 4 kGy and unirradiated one as control were also made. Irradiated and unirradiated samples were sent to animal laboratory, and fed into individual female Sprague Dawley rat as member of a group. The parameters observed were body weight changed of rats, toxicological test to observe the effect free radicals formation in rat’s blood by using malon-dialdehyde (MDA) and superoxide dismutase (SOD) methods, respectively, and anatomy pathology diagnosis. Different types of the foods sterilized by ionizing radiation fed ad libitum to the individual Sprague Dawley rat demonstrated that such foods did not give any adverse effect on the reduction of body weight, the toxicological impact, nor anatomy-pathology examinations of the rats.

Analysis of Rural Households Food Security in Western Ethiopia

This study analyzed rural households’ food security and its determinants in western Ethiopia. The study used a primary data collected from 276 randomly selected households using interview schedule. In addition, focus group discussion (FGD) and key informants interview were also used to obtain a qualitative primary data. As to the method of data analysis, the study employed descriptive statistics (such as mean, frequency, range and percentage) and binary logit model (BLM). The finding of the study revealed that, in the study area, 59.06% of the sampled households were food insecure and 40.94% of them were food secure. Besides, the study indicated that 86.87% of the households were vulnerable to different shocks, risks, and seasonality’s and 41.67% of the households faced shortage of food. Moreover, the finding indicated that only 31.88% of the households were food self-sufficient from own production. Low productivity, climate related problems and inadequacy of cultivable land were identified as the top three main causes of food shortage and/or food self-insufficiency from own production. The estimated BLM pointed out that sex, age, access to irrigation, off-farm and non-farm income, input cost, access to credit and distance to market were significant in determining household’s food security status. Therefore, policies and actions directed towards improving households’ food security and reducing their vulnerability should focus on the aforementioned factors.

Landuse/Landcover(LULC)changes are recognised as some of the major causes of environmental problems like land degradation and climate *** achieve sustainability,we need to properly understand such changes in order to have adequate information that will enable us to design and implementing measures to mitigate their negative *** this particularly requires a proper understanding of how stakeholders perceive the changes in general and their drivers in ***,not much is known for many areas about the perspective of landuse stakeholders on drivers of LULC *** paper reports the results of a study conducted to examine the perceptions of different landuse stakeholders on drivers of LULC changes in Abuja Federal Capital Territory,*** survey was utilised,involving 514 households across four settlements,2 rural(Karshi and Orozo)and 2 urban(Nyanya and Karu)towns in the territory,which were complimented with Focus Group Discussions were *** results obtained showed that urban dwellers are largely aware of drivers of changes in socio-economic drivers(physical development on lands,more commercial complex development and more institutional development).Rural dwellers are largely aware of environmental drivers of LULC changes(bush burning,livestock overgrazing,collections of wood and medicinal plants,and agricultural expansion).It was concluded that there is the need to bring about a harmonisation of the perceptions of LULC change drivers by the rural and urban dwellers so as to bring about a common front understanding and responding to LULC changes in the study area.
