Inflammatory myofibroblastic tumor （INT） of the stomach in adults is extremely rare, with unpredictable prognosis. We present a 55-year-old woman with a gastric IMT. She experienced sudden abdominal pain 4 d previously. Physical examination showed mild abdominal tenderness in the hypogastrium, but no palpable abnormal abdominal mass. Abdominal CT showed a mass of approximately 8 cm in the gastrocolic ligament. On laparoscopic exploration, unexpected hemoperitoneum of approximately 1.5 L of blood was found, and an exophytic gastric mass of approximately 10 cm, appeared from the anterior wall of the gastric body along the greater curvature. Laparoscopy further showed that non- clotting blood in the abdominal cavity seemed to be from the gastric tumor. After conversion to open surgery for more precise evaluation of the cause of hemoperitoneum and the large friable tumor, gastric wedge resection, including the tumor, was conducted. The final diagnosis was consistent with IMT that originated from the gastric wall.

Kinetics model was developed for the mixed （steam and dry） reforming of methane, which is useful for the control of H2/CO ratio. The equilibrium constants of reaction rate were determined using the experimental equilibrium data at different reaction temperatures, while the forward reaction rate constants were estimated using the experimental data under non-equilibrium （high inert fraction and high space velocity） conditions. The comparison between calculated and experimental data clearly showed that the developed model described satisfactorily, and further analysis using the parametric sensitivity determined the wall temperature and CO2 fraction in the feed gas as effective parameters for the manipulation of CH4 conversion and H2/CO ratio of synthesis gas under the equilibrium condition. Meanwhile, the inert fraction, rather than the residence time, was selected as additional parameter under non-equilibrium condition.

Background: Minimally invasive surgery is becoming increasingly popular in the field of pancreatic surgery. However, there are few studies of robotic distal pancreatectomy(RDP) for pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma(PDAC). This study aimed to investigate the efficacy and feasibility of RDP for PDAC. Methods: Patients who underwent RDP or laparoscopic distal pancreatectomy(LDP) for PDAC between January 2015 and September 2020 were reviewed. Propensity score matching analyses were performed. Results: Of the 335 patients included in the study, 24 underwent RDP and 311 underwent LDP. A total of 21 RDP patients were matched 1:1 with LDP patients. RDP was associated with longer operative time(209.7 vs. 163.2 min;P = 0.003), lower open conversion rate(0% vs. 4.8%;P < 0.001), higher cost(15 722 vs. 12 699 dollars;P = 0.003), and a higher rate of achievement of an R0 resection margin(90.5% vs. 61.9%;P = 0.042). However, postoperative pancreatic fistula grade B or C showed no significant intergroup difference(9.5% vs. 9.5%). The median disease-free survival(34.5 vs. 17.3 months;P = 0.588) and overall survival(37.7 vs. 21.9 months;P = 0.171) were comparable between the groups. Conclusions: RDP is associated with longer operative time, a higher cost of surgery, and a higher likelihood of achieving R0 margins than LDP.

Reactive oxygen signaling regulates numerous biological processes,including stress responses in *** sensors transduce reactive oxygen signals into cellular ***,we present biochemical evidence that a plant quiescin sulfhydryl oxidase homolog(QSOX1)is a redox sensor that negatively regulates plant immunity against a bacterial *** expression level of QSOX1 is inversely correlated with pathogen-induced reactive oxygen species(ROS)***,QSOX1 both senses and regulates ROS levels by interactingn with and mediating redox regulation of S-nitrosoglutathione reductase,which,consistent with previous findings,influences reactive nitrogen-mediated regulation of ROS ***,our data indicate that QSOX1 is a redox sensorthat negatively regulates plant immunity by linking reactive oxygen and reactive nitrogen signaling to limit ROS production.

Optical Switching of a Quantum Cascade Laser in Continuous Wave Operation

We demonstrate an optical switching in a middle infrared continuous-wave quantum cascade laser operated in single mode by illuminating its front facet with a near infrared laser. A decrease in the laser net gain is observed in the amplified spontaneous emission spectrum. This is attributed to an increase of the carrier concentration caused by the near infrared excitation. The net gain reduction allows the quantum cascade laser to be completely switched off from single mode lasing. This optical switching can be used to convert near infrared signals into middle infrared signals for free space communication.

Neurodegenerative disease is a brain disorder caused by the loss of structure andfunction of neurons that lowers the quality of human life. Apart from the limitedpotential for endogenous regeneration, stem cell-based therapies hold considerablepromise for maintaining homeostatic tissue regeneration and enhancingplasticity. Despite many studies, there remains insufficient evidence for stem celltracing and its correlation with endogenous neural cells in brain tissue with threedimensionalstructures. Recent advancements in tissue optical clearing techniqueshave been developed to overcome the existing shortcomings of cross-sectionaltissue analysis in thick and complex tissues. This review focuses on recentprogress of stem cell treatments to improve neurodegenerative disease, andintroduces tissue optical clearing techniques that can implement a threedimensionalimage as a proof of concept. This review provides a more comprehensiveunderstanding of stem cell tracing that will play an important role inevaluating therapeutic efficacy and cellular interrelationship for regeneration inneurodegenerative diseases.

Somatostatin adjunctive therapy for non-variceal upper gastrointestinal rebleeding after endoscopic therapy

AIM:To evaluate the effect of pantoprazole with a somatostatin adjunct in patients with acute non-variceal upper gastrointestinal bleeding(NVUGIB).METHODS:We performed a retrospective analysis of a prospective database in a tertiary care university *** October 2006 to October 2008,we enrolled 101 patients with NVUGIB that had a high-risk stigma on *** 24 h of hospital admission,all patients underwent endoscopic *** successful endoscopic hemostasis,all patients received an 80-mg bolus of pantoprazole followed by continuous intravenous infusion(8 mg/h for 72 h).The somatostatin adjunct group(n=49)also received a 250-μg bolus of somatostatin,followed by continuous infusion (250μg/h for 72 h).Early rebleeding rates,disappearance of endoscopic stigma and risk factors associated with early rebleeding were ***:Early rebleeding rates were not significantly different between treatment groups(12.2%vs 14.3%,P=0.766).Disappearance of endoscopic stigma on the second endoscopy was not significantly different between treatment groups(94.2%vs 95.9%,P=0.696).Multivariate analysis showed that the complete Rockall score was a significant risk factor for early rebleeding(P =0.044,OR:9.080,95%CI:1.062-77.595).CONCLUSION:The adjunctive use of somatostatin was not superior to pantoprazole monotherapy after successful endoscopic hemostasis in patients with NVUGIB.

The precise regulation of microRNA(miRNA)biogenesis is crucial for plant development,which requires core microprocessors and many fine tuners to coordinate their miRNA processing activity/specificity in fluctuating cellular *** de-etiolation,light triggers a dramatic accumulation of core microprocessors and primary miRNAs(pri-miRNAs)but decreases pri-miRNA processing activity,resulting in relatively constant miRNA *** mechanisms underlying these seemingly contradictory regulatory changes remain *** this study,we identified forkhead-associated domain 2(FHA2)as a light-stabilized suppressor of miRNA *** found that FHA2 deficiency increased the level of mature miRNAs,accompanied by a reduction in pri-miRNAs and target *** assays showed that FHA2 associates with the core microprocessors DCL1,HYL1,and SE,forming a complex to suppress their pri-miRNA processing *** analyses revealed that FHA2 promotes HYL1 binding but inhibits the binding of DCL1-PAZ-RNase-RNA-binding domains(DCL1-PRR)to miRNAs,whereas FHA2 does not directly bind to these ***,we found that FHA2 protein is unstable in the dark but stabilized by light during ***,disruption of FH A led to defects in light-triggered changes in miRNA expression and reduced the survival rate of deetiolated seedlings after prolonged light ***,these data suggest that FHA2 is a novel light-stabilized suppressor of miRNA biogenesis and plays a role in fine-tuning miRNA processing during de-etiolation.
