Splenic infarction associated with sorafenib use in a hepatocellular carcinoma patient

Sorafenib,a multitargeted tyrosine kinase inhibitor,has been shown to improve survival in patients with advanced hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC).As the clinical use of sorafenib increases,many adverse effects have been reported,such as hand-foot skin reaction,diarrhea,anorexia,asthenia,alopecia,weight loss,hypertension and arterial ***,there are no prior reports of splenic infarction as an adverse effect of ***,a case of splenic infarction in a patient with HCC who was treated with sorafenib is reported. The patient had no other predisposing factors to explain the splenic infarction except for the administration of *** splenic infarction improved after sorafenib was discontinued;however,the HCC progressed.

A critical unaddressed problem in Parkinson’s disease is the lack of therapy that slows or hampers *** medications effectively manage symptoms,they offer no long-term benefit because they fail to address the underlying neuronal *** highlights that the elusive goals of halting progression and restoring damaged neurons limit the long-term impact of current *** clinical trials using gene therapy have demonstrated the safety of various vector delivery systems,dosages,and transgenes expressed in the central nervous system,signifying tangible and substantial progress in applying gene therapy as a promising Parkinson’s disease ***,at diagnosis,many dopamine neurons remain in the substantia nigra,offering a potential window for recovery and *** propose that modulating these surviving dopamine neurons and axons in the substantia nigra and striatum using gene therapy offers a potentially more impactful therapeutic approach for future ***,innovative gene therapies that focus on preserving the remaining elements may have significant potential for enhancing long-term outcomes and the quality of life for patients with Parkinson’s *** this review,we provide a perspective on how gene therapy can protect vulnerable elements in the substantia nigra and striatum,offering a novel approach to addressing Parkinson’s disease at its core.

Amidst the ever-growing interest in high-mass-loading Li battery electrodes,a persistent challenge has been the insufficient continuity of their ion/electron conduction ***,we propose cellulose elementary fibrils(CEFs)as a class of deagglomerated binder for high-mass-loading *** from natural wood,CEF represents the most fundamental unit of cellulose with nanoscale *** preparation of the CEFs involves the modulation of intermolecular hydrogen bonding by the treatment with a proton acceptor and a hydrotropic *** elementary deagglomeration of the cellulose fibers increases surface area and anionic charge density,thus promoting uniform dispersion with carbon conductive additives and suppressing interfacial side reactions at ***,a homogeneous redox reaction is achieved throughout the *** resulting CEF-based cathode(overlithiated layered oxide(OLO)is chosen as a benchmark electrode active material)exhibits a high areal-mass-loading(50 mg cm^(-2),equivalent to an areal capacity of 12.5 mAh cm^(-2))and a high specific energy density(445.4 Wh kg–1)of a cell,which far exceeds those of previously reported OLO *** study highlights the viability of the deagglomerated binder in enabling sustainable high-mass-loading electrodes that are difficult to achieve with conventional synthetic polymer binders.

The ever-increasing demand for smart optoelectronics spurs the relentless pursuit of transparent wireless devices as a game-changing technology that can provide unseen visual information behind the *** enable successful operation of the transparent wireless devices,their power sources should be highly transparent in addition to acquiring reliable electrochemical *** various transparent power sources,supercapacitors(SCs)have been extensively investigated as a promising candidate due to their exceptional cyclability,power capability,material diversity,and scalable/low-cost ***,we describe current status and challenges of transparent SCs,with a focus on their core materials,performance advancements,and integration with application devices.A special attention is devoted to transparent conductive electrodes(TCEs)which act as a keyenabling component in the transparent *** on fundamental understanding of optical theories and operating principles of transparent materials,we comprehensively discuss materials chemistry,structural design,and fabrication techniques of *** addition,noteworthy progresses of transparent SCs are briefly overviewed in terms of their architectural design,opto-electrochemical performance,flexibility,form factors,and integration compatibility with transparent flexible/wearable devices of ***,development direction and outlook of transparent SCs are explored along with their viable roles in future application fields.

Oxidative stress in Parkinson's disease(PD): Oxidative stress is the imbalance between oxidants, which generate reactive oxygen species(ROS;free radicals), and antioxidants, which remove free *** healthy conditions, the levels of oxidants and antioxidants are ***, excessive production of ROS and a deficiency of antioxidants leads to oxidative stress, which may be the cause of accelerating the development of neurodegenerative diseases(Hwang, 2013), suggesting that the prevention of ROS production and reduction of oxidative stress is critical for both the prevention and treatment of neurodegenerative diseases, including PD.

Neurotrophic factors against neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease(AD)and Parkinson’s disease(PD):A clear understanding of the etiology of neurodegenerative diseases,such as AD and PD remains *** there is still no therapy to prevent or block neurodegeneration,in vivo and in vitro experimental results have shown that the direct administration of neurotrophic factors,such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor(BDNF)and ciliary neurotrophic factor(CNTF),and the induction of these neurotrophic factors via specific gene delivery may protect neurons against neurotoxicity in neurodegenerative disease models(kim et al.,2012;Jeong et al.,2013,2015).

Parkinson＇s disease （PD） is characterized by the progressive degeneration of dopaminergic （DA） neurons and a decrease in striatal dopamine, which is associated with clinical movement disorders including a tremor at rest, rigidity of the limbs, bra- dykinesia （slowness and paucity of voluntary movement） and postural instability （a tendency to fall even in the absence of weakness or cerebellar balance disturbance）（kim et al., 2012）. Although the lack of fully understanding of the etiology of PD, accumulating evidence suggests that microglial activation （kim et al., 2010） and insufficient support of neurotrophic factors （kim et al., 2012; Nam et al., 2014） may be crucial for the ini- tiation and progression of PD. Thus the control of microglial activation and the support of neurotrophic factors may be useful to prevent the degeneration of the nigrostriatal DA pro- jections in the adult brain.

In this work,variation in the dynamic recrystallization(DRX)and dynamic precipitation behavior of AZ80 alloy during extrusion due to changes in extrusion temperature was investigated,and the resultant microstructure and yield asymmetry were *** the extrusion temperature increases from 250℃to 350℃,the primary DRX mechanism changes from twin-induced DRX to discontinuous DRX,resulting in an increase in the DRX area fraction and un DRXed grain *** addition,as the extrusion temperature rises,Mg17Al12 precipitation during extrusion decreases sharply throughout the extruded *** reduction in the compressive yield strength(CYS)with increasing extrusion temperature is more pronounced than it is for the tensile yield strength(TYS),which ultimately increases the yield asymmetry of the extruded *** higher extrusion temperature has less of an influence on the TYS due to the promotion of certain hardening *** the other hand,the greater reduction in the CYS is attributed to the increased fraction and size of regions in which{1012}twins predominantly form and the lower amount of precipitates,which effectively facilitates{1012}twinning.
