Non-Hermitian degeneracies,also known as exceptional points(EPs),have been the focus of much attention due to their singular eigenvalue surface structure.Nevertheless,as pertaining to a non-Hermitian metasurface platform,the reduction of an eigenspace dimensionality at the EP has been investigated mostly in a passive repetitive manner.Here,we propose an electrical and spectral way of resolving chiral EPs and clarifying the consequences of chiral mode collapsing of a non-Hermitian gated graphene metasurface.More specifically,the measured non-Hermitian Jones matrix in parameter space enables the quantification of nonorthogonality of polarisation eigenstates and half-integer topological charges associated with a chiral EP.Interestingly,the output polarisation state can be made orthogonal to the coalesced polarisation eigenstate of the metasurface,revealing the missing dimension at the chiral EP.In addition,the maximal nonorthogonality at the chiral EP leads to a blocking of one of the cross-polarised transmission pathways and,consequently,the observation of enhanced asymmetric polarisation conversion.We anticipate that electrically controllable non-Hermitian metasurface platforms can serve as an interesting framework for the investigation of rich non-Hermitian polarisation dynamics around chiral EPs.

Room-temperature synthesis of ZrSnO4 nanoparticles for electron transport layer in efficient planar hetrojunction perovskite solar cells

The interface engineering plays a key role in controlled optoelectronic properties of perovskite photovoltaic devices,and thus the electron transport layer(ETL)material with tailored optoelectronic properties remains a challenge for achieving high photovoltaic performance of planar perovskite solar cells(PSCs).Here,the fine and crystalline zirconium stanate(ZrSnO4)nanoparticles(NPs)was synthesized at low temperature,and its optoelectronic properties are systematically investigated.Benefiting from the favorable electronic structure of ZrSnO4 NPs for applications in ETL,efficient electron transport and extraction with suppre s sed charge recombination are achieved at the interface of perovskite layer.As a result,the optimized ZrSnO4 NPs synthesized at room-temperature deliver the optimized power conversion efficiency up to 16.76%with acceptable stability.This work opens up a new class of ternary metal oxide for the use in ETL of the planar PSCs and should pave the way toward designing new interfacial materials for practical optoelectronic devices.

Bacillus species are aerobic,gram-positive,spore forming rods that are usually found in the soil,dust,streams,and other environmental sources.Except for Bacillus.anthracis(B.anthracis) ,most species display low virulence,and only rarely cause infections in hosts with weak or damaged immune systems.There are two case reports of B.cereus as a potentially serious bacterial pathogen causing a liver abscess in an immunologically competent patient.We herein report a case of liver abscess and sepsis caused by B.pantothenticus in an immunocompetent patient.Until now,no case of liver abscess due to B.pantothenticus has been reported.

SnSe is a promising thermoelectric material with a high figure of merit in single crystal form, which has stimulated continuous research on polycrystalline SnSe. In this study, we investigated a metallization techniques for polycrystalline SnSe to achieve highly efficient and practical SnSe thermoelectric modules. The Ag/Ni metallization layers were formed on pristine polycrystalline SnSe using various deposition technique: sputter coating Ni, powder Niand foil Ni by spark plasma sintering. Structural analysis demonstrated that the microstructure and con tact resistance could be different according to the metallization process, despite using the same metals. The Ag/Ni metallization layer using foil Ni acted as an effective diffusion barrier and minimized electrical contact resistance (2.3×10^-4Ωcm^2). A power loss in the thermoelectric module of only 5% was demonstrated using finite element simulation.

Recent trends in the epidemiology and clinical outcomes of inflammatory bowel disease in South Korea,2010-2018

BACKGROUND Inflammatory bowel disease(IBD)was previously regarded as a Western disease;however,its incidence is increasing in the East.The epidemiology of IBD in Asia differs significantly from the patterns in the West.AIM To comprehensively investigate the epidemiology of IBD in South Korea,inclu-ding its incidence,prevalence,medication trends,and outcomes.METHODS We analyzed claims data from the Health Insurance Review and Assessment Service and Rare and Intractable Diseases(RIDs),operated by the National Health Insurance Service of South Korea.Patients with IBD were identified based on the International Classification of Diseases,Tenth Revision,and RID diagnostic codes for Crohn’s disease(CD)and ulcerative colitis(UC)from 2010 to 2018.RESULTS In total,14498 and 31409 patients were newly diagnosed with CD and UC,respectively,between 2010 and 2018.The annual average incidence of CD was 3.11 cases per 105 person-years,and that of UC was 6.74 cases per 10^(5) person-years.Since 2014,the incidence rate of CD has been stable,while that of UC has steadily increased,shifting the peak age group from 50-year-olds in 2010 to 20-year-olds in 2018.The CD and UC prevalence increased consistently over the study period;the use of 5-aminosali-cylates and corticosteroids gradually decreased,while that of immunomodulators and biologics steadily increased in both CD and UC.The clinical outcomes of IBD,such as hospitalization and surgery,decreased during the study period.CONCLUSION The CD incidence has been stable since 2014,but that of UC has increased with a shift to a younger age at peak incidence between 2010 and 2018.IBD clinical outcomes improved over time,with increased use of immunomodu-lators and biologics.

In this paper, we design the signal processing module based on FPGA for vehicle FMCW radar systems. We employ the detection algorithms based on two-step FFT （Fast Fourier Transform） using the several fast ramps in order to resolve radar range-velocity ambiguities. We implement the detection algorithms including the first FFT, DBF （Digital Beam Forming）, the second FFT, and CFAR （Constant False Alarm） onto FPGA. In particular, the designed architecture supports multiple-receive channels to estimate target angles. The architecture also digitally generates a transmit wave using a DDS （Digital Direct Synthesizer） device. All algorithms and the controller are implemented into a Xilinx Virtex-5 platform and verified under the test platform.

One-year clinical outcomes in invasive treatment strategies for acute ST-elevation myocardial infarction complicated by cardiogenic shock in eld-erly patients

Objective To investigate the clinical outcomes of an invasive strategy for elderly (aged≥75 years) patients with acute ST-segment elevation myocardial infarction (STEMI) complicated by cardiogenic shock (CS). Methods Data on 366 of 409 elderly CS patients from a total of 6,132 acute STEMI cases enrolled in the Korea Acute Myocardial Infarction Registry between January 2008 and June 2011, were collected and analyzed. In-hospital deaths and the 1-month and 1-year survival rates free from major adverse cardiac events (MACE;defined as all cause death, myocardial infarction, and target vessel revascularization) were reported for the patients who had undergone invasive (n=310) and conservative (n=56) treatment strategies. Results The baseline clinical characteristics were not significantly different between the two groups. There were fewer in-hospital deaths in the invasive treatment strategy group (23.5%vs. 46.4%, P<0.001). In addition, the 1-year MACE-free survival rate after invasive treatment was significantly lower compared with the conservative treatment (51%vs. 66%, P=0.001). Conclusions In elderly patients with acute STEMI complicated by CS, the outcomes of invasive strategy are similar to those in younger patients at the 1-year follow-up.

Specific grades of high-entropy alloys(HEAs)can provide opportunities for optimizing properties toward high-temperature applications.In this work,the Co-based HEA with a chemical composition of Co_(47.5)Cr_(30)Fe_(7.5)Mn_(7.5)Ni_(7.5)(at%)was chosen.The refractory metallic elements hafnium(Hf)and molybdenum(Mo)were added in small amounts(1.5at%)because of their well-known positive effects on high-temperature properties.Inclusion characteristics were comprehensively explored by using a two-dimensional cross-sectional method and extracted by using a three-dimensional electrolytic extraction method.The results revealed that the addition of Hf can reduce Al_(2)O_(3)inclusions and lead to the formation of more stable Hf-rich inclusions as the main phase.Mo addition cannot influence the inclusion type but could influence the inclusion characteristics by affecting the physical parameters of the HEA melt.The calculated coagulation coefficient and collision rate of Al_(2)O_(3)inclusions were higher than those of HfO_(2)inclusions,but the inclusion amount played a larger role in the agglomeration behavior of HfO_(2)and Al_(2)O_(3)inclusions.The impurity level and active elements in HEAs were the crucial factors affecting inclusion formation.

The rapid advancement of AI-enabled applications has resulted in an increasing need for energy-efficient computing hardware.Logic-in-memory is a promising approach for processing the data stored in memory,wherein fast and efficient computations are possible owing to the parallel execution of reconfigurable logic operations.In this study,a dual-logic-in-memory device,which can simultaneously perform two logic operations in four states,is demonstrated using van der Waals ferroelectric field-effect transistors(vdW FeFETs).The proposed dual-logic-in-memory device,which also acts as a twobit storage device,is a single bidirectional polarization-integrated ferroelectric field-effect transistor(BPI-FeFET).It is fabricated by integrating an in-plane vdW ferroelectric semiconductor SnS and an out-of-plane vdW ferroelectric gate dielectric material—CuInP_(2)S_(6).Four reliable resistance states with excellent endurance and retention characteristics were achieved.The two-bit storage mechanism in a BPI-FeFET was analyzed from two perspectives:carrier density and carrier injection controls,which originated from the out-of-plane polarization of the gate dielectric and in-plane polarization of the semiconductor,respectively.Unlike conventional multilevel FeFETs,the proposed BPIFeFET does not require additional pre-examination or erasing steps to switch from/to an intermediate polarization,enabling direct switching between the four memory states.To utilize the fabricated BPI-FeFET as a dual-logic-inmemory device,two logical operations were selected(XOR and AND),and their parallel execution was demonstrated.Different types of logic operations could be implemented by selecting different initial states,demonstrating various types of functions required for numerous neural network operations.The flexibility and efficiency of the proposed dual-logic-in-memory device appear promising in the realization of next-generation low-power computing systems.
