East Asians are the most populous race in the world and their health status is an important global *** with Caucasian populations, East Asian patients have a different benefit/risk ratio when using antithrombotic treatment. Despite this observation, treatment strategies in East Asian patients are mostly based on the American and European guidelines. Despite a lower platelet inhibitory response to clopidogrel, East Asian patients show a similar or even a lower rate of ischemic event occurrence and higher bleeding risk compared with Caucasian patients. For potent P2Y_(12) inhibitors(ticagrelor and prasugrel),East Asian patients have shown less favorable net clinical benefits compared with Caucasian patients,which may be related to differences in pharmacokinetic/pharmacodynamic profiles and therapeutic zone of antiplatelet effect. This updated consensus mainly focuses on state-of-the-art and current controversies in the East Asian population. In addition, when East Asian patients are administered potent P2Y_(12) receptor inhibitors, the strategies and ongoing trials to overcome the related hurdles are discussed.

Spray-deposited Cu(In,Ga)Se (CIGS) absorber layers were heat-treated in N and Se atmosphere, respectively, in order to get a dense CIGS absorber layer for solar cells application. Heat treatment in N gas was designed to facilitate the growth of CIGS nanoparticle only by thermal energy, while that in Se vapor by thermal energy and Se induced thermo-chemical effects at the same time. A large number of pores existed in the as-sprayed absorber layer were still remained even after heat-treated in N atmosphere at 500℃for 1 h. On the other hand, heat treatment in Se vapor led to the formation of large particles up to 1μm, demonstrating that Se vapor seems to play a critical role in the growth of CIGS nanoparticles and hence the densification of nanoparticle derived CIGS layer.

Pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate (PDTC) is a potent inhibitor of nuclear factor kappa B (NF-□B). Wehave previously reported that the effects of pyrrolidine dithiocarbamate(PDTC) on cell death andNF-□B inhibition are zinc dependent(Kim et al, FEBS Lett. 449, 28-32, 1999, Kim, et al, ***. 72, 1586-1592, 1999), not through its antioxidant effect. In the present study, wesought to characterize the molecular mechanism of PDTC inhibition of NF-□B activity. PDTC didnot alter NF-□B binding to DNA, bat prevented the translocation of the p65 subunit of NF-□Binto the nucleus. As an inhibitor of NF-□B, PDTC paradoxically activated I□B kinase (IKK).But, degradation of phosphorylated I□B□was blocked by PDTC. In this work, enhancement of the light extraction efficiency of a 590 nm AIGaInP light-emitting diodes （LED） with a reflective top electrode （RTE） was investigated. A distributed Bragg reflector （DBR）, consisting of AIAs/AIGaAs pairs, grown on an AlGaInP structure was used as a reflector for a reflective top electrode. It was found that a higher output power was observed from the AIGalnP LED with a RTE than from a conventional one. In addition, it was noted that the improvement in the output power depends strongly on the reflectivity of the reflector and that it exhibits a more effective performance with low injection currents. The increase in the optical output power was attributed to the enhanced extraction efficiency caused by a reduction of light absorbed from the emission region to top electrode through the RTE.

The rapid prototyping (RP) technology has been used for design verification, functionality test and fabrication of prototypes. In this paper, a hybrid rapid prototyping system, which can fabricate nano composites using various materials is introduced. This hybrid system adopts RP and machining process, so material deposition and removal can be performed on a single station. As an example, micro gears were fabricated using nano composite consisted of photo-curable polymer and Multi-wall Carbon Nano Tube (MWCNT). The micro gear samples fabricated by the hybrid RP technology showed higher precision than those made by casting or deposition process. As the second example stapes was fabricated using hydroxyapatite-acrylic composite.

Background Danshen （Radix Salvia miltiorrhizae） has been used as a traditional medicine in Asia for treatment of various microcirculatory disturbance related diseases. Tanshinones are mainly hydrophobic active components, which have been isolated from Danshen and show various biological functions. In this study, we observed the neuroprotective effect of tanshinone I （Tsl） against ischemic damage in the gerbil hippocampal CA1 region （CA1） after transient cerebral ischemia and examined its neuroprotective mechanism. Methods The gerbils were divided into vehicle-treated-sham-group, vehicle-treated-ischemia-group, Tsl-treated-sham- group, and Tsl-treated-ischemia-group. Tsl was administrated intraperitoneally three times （once a day for three days） before ischemia-reperfusion. The neuroprotective affect of Tsl was examined using H＆E staining, neuronal nuclei （NeuN） immunohistochemistry and Fluoro-Jade B staining. To investigate the neuroprotective mechanism of Tsl after ischemia- reperfusion, immunohistochemical （IHC） and Western blotting analyses for Cu, Zn-superoxide dismutase （SOD1）, Mn- superoxide dismutase （SOD2）, brain-derived neurotrophic factor （BDNF） and insulin-like growth factor-I （IGF-I） were *** Treatment with Tsl protected pyramidal neurons from ischemia-induced neuronal death in the CA1 after ischemia-reperfusion. In addition, treatment with Tsl maintained the levels of SOD1 and SOD2 as determined by IHC and Western blotting in the CA1 after ischemia- reperfusion compared with the vehicle-ischemia-group. In addition, treatment with Tsl increased the levels of BDNF and IGF-I determined by IHC and Westem blotting in the Tsl-treated-sham-group compared with the vehicle-treated- sham-group, and their levels were maintained in the stratum pyramidale of the ischemic CA1 in the Tsl-treated- ischemia-group.
