Kinin B_2 receptor does not exert renoprotective effects on mice with glycerol-induced rhabdomyolysis

AIM： To investigate a potential protective role of the kinin B2 receptor in a glycerol-induced rhabdomyolysis mouse model. METHODS： We separated 28 C57Bl/6 male mice into 4 groups： untreated WT animals, untreated B2 knockout mice, glycerol-treated WT and glycerol-treated B2 knockout mice. Glycerol-treated animals received one intramuscular injections of glycerol solution （50% v/v, 7 mL/kg）. After 48 h, urine and blood samples were collected to measure creatinine and urea levels. Addi-tionally, kidney samples were extracted for histological evaluation, and the mRNA expression levels of kinin B1 and B2 receptors and infammatory mediators were measured by real-time polymerase chain reaction. RESULTS： Serum creatinine and urea levels showed differences between untreated wild-type and glycerol-treated wild-type mice （0.66 ± 0.04 vs 2.61 ± 0.53 mg/dL, P 〈 0.01; and 33.51 ± 2.08 vs 330.2 ± 77.7 mg/dL, P 〈 0.005）, and between untreated B2 knock-out mice and glycerol-treated knockout mice （0.56 ± 0.03 vs 2.23 ± 0.87 mg/dL, P 〈 0.05; and 42.49 ± 3.2 vs 327.2 ± 58.4 mg/dL, P 〈 0.01）, but there was no difference between the glycerol-treated wild-type and glycerol-treated knockout mice. Glycerol was able to in-duce a striking increase in kinin B2 receptor expression （〉 30 times, 31.34 ± 8.9） in kidney. Animals injected with glycerol had a higher degree of tubular injury than untreated animals. Wild-type and knockout mice treat-ed with glycerol intramuscularly present kidney injury, with impairment in renal function. However, B2 knock-out mice treated with glycerol did not show a different phenotype regarding kidney injury markers, when com-pared to the wild-type glycerol-treated group. CONCLUSION： We conclude that the kinin B2 receptordoes not have a protective role in renal injury.

Trauma to the peripheral nervous system often results in loss of motor and sensory functions of the affected area of the body,leading to a series of functional impairments(Allodi et al.,2012).Injuries to peripheral nerves initiate a series of complex events,known as Wallerian degeneration,which allows the injured axons to regenerate and reinnervate their targets(Allodi et al.,2012).Damage to a nerve induces multiple alterations,which include:axonal degeneration,breakdown of myelin sheath,Schwann cells(SC)proliferation and conversion to a repair phenotype which express cytokines and chemokines that allow the infiltration and activation of macrophages(Mietto et al.,2015;Jessen and Mirsky,2016).

Amino acid digestibility in low-fat distillers dried grains with solubles fed to growing pigs

The objective of this experiment was to determine the standardized ileal digestibility（SID） of amino acids（AA） in 3sources of distillers dried grains with solubles（DDGS） with different concentrations of *** growing barrows（initial body weight：76.1 ± 6.2 kg） were randomly allotted to a replicated 6×4 Youden square design with 6 diets and 4 *** fat content of the 3 sources of DDGS were 11.5,7.5,and 6.9%*** contained 60%DDGS and fat concentration of the diets were 7.5,52,and 5.2%,*** additional diets containing the 2sources of DDGS with 75 and 6.9%fat were also formulated,and corn oil was added to these diets to increase the concentration of fat in the diets to levels that were calculated to be similar to the diet containing conventional DDGS with 11.5%fat.A N-free diet was also formulated to calculate endogenous losses of crude protein（CP） and AA from the *** were fed experimental diets during four 7-d *** first 5 d of each period were an adaptation period and ileal digesta were collected on d 6 and 7 of each *** apparent ileal digestibililty（AID） and SID of CP and all indispensable AA,except AID Pro and SID of Trp,were greater（P 〈 0.01） in conventional DDGS than in the 2 sources of DDGS with reduced *** oil to the diets containing the 2 sources of DDGS with reduced fat did not consistently increase SID of *** conclusion,conventional DDGS has greater SID values for most AA compared with DDGS that contains less fat and inclusion of additional oil to diets containing low-fat DDGS does not increase AID or SID of *** lower AA digestibility in low-fat DDGS could not be overcome by the inclusion of additional fat to the diets.

Dehghan and Hajarian, [4], investigated the matrix equations A^TXB＋B^TX^TA = C and A^TXB ＋ B^TXA = C providing inequalities for the determinant of the solutions of these equations. In the same paper, the authors presented a lower bound for the product of the eigenvalues of the solutions to these matrix equations. Inspired by their work, we give some generalizations of Dehghan and Hajarian results. Using the theory of the numerical ranges, we present an inequality involving the trace of C when A, B, X are normal matrices satisfying A^T B = BA^T.

Oxidative and storage stability in beef burgers from the use of bioactive compounds from the agro-industrial residues of passion fruit(Passiflora edulis)

This work aims to evaluate the effect of extracts obtained from passion fruit residues on the oxidative,microbiological,and physicochemical quality of beef burgers during *** types of treatments were considered,including control(without addition of antioxidants),BHT(100 mg kg^(-1)of butylated hydroxytoluene),AE(1000 mg kg^(-1)of aqueous extract),and EE(500 mg kg^(-1)of ethanolic extract).The ethanolic and aqueous extracts showed a concentration of total phenolics of 39.94±1.52 mg GAE.g^(-1)and 11.91±0.39 mg GAE.g^(-1),*** have also shown antioxidant and antimicrobial in vitro *** the conditions tested,AE and EE have prevented lipid oxidation in beef burgers similar to *** well as inhibiting the growth of mesophilic and psychrophilic *** discoloration process was minimized up to the 9th day of storage with just ***,agro-industrial passion fruit residues are sources of natural additives,with antimicrobial and antioxidant properties,which can be used by the meat industry to improve the oxidative and microbiological stability of beef burgers during storage.

Objectives:In recent years,there has been a substantial increase in the global consumption of honey,driven by the high demand for natural products that offer health ***,consumers show a preference for honey,recognised for its superior quality,namely honey with a Protected Designation of Origin(PDO)or honey produced in protected areas,as it is associated with superior attributes and *** is one of the leading countries in the production of PDO honey,with Montesinho Natural Park(MNP)being an excellent example of high-quality Portuguese honey,known for its distinctive ***,environmental threats pose a double challenge,leading to a decline in honey production and compromising its overall *** study aimed to assess the specifc physicochemical parameters and nutritional characteristics of MNP honey and investigate their correlation with the different locations of *** and Methods:MNP honey samples(n=13)were obtained from local producers or purchased at *** physicochemical parameters,such as 5-hydroxymethylfurfural,diastase activity,moisture and ash content,free acidity,electrical conductivity and pH,were determined according to honey ***,colour parameters,protein,low-molecular-weight carbohydrates(monoand disaccharides),and mineral content were ***:The results obtained were consistent with the requirements outlined in the legislation and those described in the *** results suggest that geographical factors within the park and boundaries do not contribute to variations in the analysed ***:A signifcant level of homogeneity was evident in all parameters evaluated among the MNP honey *** is the frst comprehensive study of the physicochemical properties of honey from various apiaries within the MNP.

Escherichia coli challenge and one type of smectite alter intestinal barrier of pigs

An experiment was conducted to determine how an E. coil challenge and dietary clays affect the intestinal barrier of pigs. Two groups of 32 pigs （initial BW： 6.9 ± 1.0 kg） were distributed in a 2 x 4 factorial arrangement of a randomized complete block design （2 challenge treatments： sham or E. coil, and 4 dietary treatments： control, 0.3% smectite A, 0.3% smectite B and 0.3% zeolite）, with 8 replicates total. Diarrhea score, growth performance, goblet cell size and number, bacterial translocation from intestinal lumen to lymph nodes, intestinal morphology, and relative amounts of sulfo and sialo mucins were measured. The E. coli challenge reduced performance, increased goblet cell size and number in the ileum, increased bacterial translocation from the intestinal lumen to the lymph nodes, and increased ileal crypt depth. One of the clays （smectite A） tended to increase goblet cell size in ileum, which may indicate enhanced protection. In conclusion, E. coli infection degrades intestinal barrier integrity but smectite A may enhance it.

Irritable bowel syndrome:A clinical review

Irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) remains a clinical challenge in the 21st century. It’s the most commonly diagnosed gastrointestinal condition and also the most common reason for referral to gastroenterology clinics. Its can affect up to one in five people at some point in their lives, and has a significantly impact of life quality and health care utilization. The prevalence varies according to country and criteria used to define IBS. Various mechanisms and theories have been proposed about its etiology, but the biopsychosocial model is the most currently accepted for IBS. The complex of symptoms would be the result of the interaction between psychological, behavioral, psychosocial and environmental factors. The diagnosis of IBS is not confirmed by a specific test or structural abnormality. It is made using criteria based on clinical symptoms such as Rome criteria, unless the symptoms are thought to be atypical. Today the Rome Criteria III is the current gold-standard for the diagnoses of IBS. Secure positive evidence of IBS by means of specific disease marker is currently not possible and cannot be currently recommended for routine diagnosis. There is still no clinical evidence to recommend the use of biomarkers in blood to diagnose IBS. However, a number of different changes in IBS patients were demonstrated in recent years, some of which can be used in the future as a diagnostic support. IBS has no definitive treatment but could be controlled by non-pharmacologic management eliminating of some exacerbating factors such certain drugs, stressor conditions and changes in dietary *** traditional pharmacologic management of IBS has been symptom based and several drugs have been used. However, the cornerstone of its therapy is a solid patient physician relationship. This review will provide a summary of pathophysiology, diagnostic criteria and current and emerging therapies for IBS.
