AIm. To evaluate the long-term.outcom. and prognostic factors of patients with hilar cholangiocarinom.. m.THODS： Ninety-six consecutive patients underwent treatm.nt for m.lignant hilar bile duct tum.rs during 1995-2005. Of the 96 patients, 20 were initially treated with surgery （n = 2 R0 / n = 18 R1）. In non-operated patients, data analysis was perform.d retrospectively. RESULTS： Am.ng the 96 patients, 76 were treated with endoscopic transpapillary （ERC, n = 45） and/or percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage （PTBD, n = 31）. The m.an survival tim. of these 76 patients undergoing palliative endoscopic and/or percutaneous drainage was 359 ± 296 d. The m.an survival tim. of patients with initial bilirubin levels 〉 10 m./dL was significantly lower （P 〈 0.001） than patients with bilirubin levels 〈 10 m./dL. The m.an survival tim. of patients with Bism.th stage Ⅱ （n = 8）, Ⅲ （n = 28） and Ⅳ （n = 40） was 496 =1= 300 d, 441 ± 385 d and 274 ± 218 d, respectively. Thus, patients with advanced Bism.th stage showed a reduced m.an survival tim., but the difference was not significant. The type of biliary drainage had no significant benefidal effect on the m.an survival tim. （ERC vs PTBD, P = 0.806）. CONCLUSION： Initial bilirubin level is a significant prognostic factor for survival of patients. In contrast, age, tum.r stage according to the Bism.th-Corlette classification, and types of intervention are not significant prognostic param.ters for survival. Palliative treatm.nt with endoscopic or percutaneous biliary drainage is still suboptim.l, new diagnostic and therapeutic tools need to be evaluated.

Caffeine is present in products m.rketed for weight loss, with the purpose of increasing therm.genesis and lipid m.tabolism. The dosage declared by the product m.nufacturer, or even its presence, is not always correctly described on the label. This work aim.d to investigate the undeclared synthetic caffeine in weight loss form.lations by a high-perform.nce liquid chrom.tography with diode array detection(HPLC-DAD) m.thod. From.one hundred products purchased through Brazilian e-com.erce, seventeen contained caffeine, either naturally or synthetically added to form.lation. The caffeine-containing sam.les were confirm.d by an ultra-high perform.nce liquid chrom.tography-tandem.m.ss spectrom.try(UHPLC-m./m.) m.thod, and adulteration was clearly proven in five products. The content highest caffeine contained 448.8 m. per dose. Other irregularities were also found; nevertheless, the m.st serious was the addition of synthetic drugs without asking the consum.rs. Additional drugs expose the consum.r to m.re possible side-effects as well as deleterious drug interactions. Intentional adulteration with any unlabeled substance is typically m.tivated by a desire to increase or alter the claim.d effect of the m.rketed product to gain a com.ercial advantage.

Pancreatic ductal adenocarcinom. is a dism.l disease with a m.dian survival below 6 m.nths and a 5 year survival rate below 1%. High m.rtality is due to early lym.hatic and hem.togenic dissem.nation. Effective therapies for local advanced or m.tastatic tum.rs are m.ssing and curative resected patients relapse in over 80% of the cases. Together this findings reflects the aggressive biology of the disease. Here we describe m.lecular m.chanism. leading to unrestrained proliferation, insensitivity to growth inhibitory signals, evasion of apoptosis, lim.tless replicative potential, tissue invasion, m.tastasis and sustained angiogenesis.

This study describes the developm.nt of m.sostructured TiO2 photo- catalysts m.dified with PO4^3- to im.rove its specific surface area and reduce the recom.ination rate of the electron-hole pairs. The m.soporous photocatalyst was successfully incorporated into a high specific surface area silica m.trix by the hydrolysis reaction of tetraethyl orthosilicate （TEOS）. Pluronic 123 and phosphoric acid were used as the directing agent for the structure of the m.soporous TiO2 and as a source of phosphorus, respectively, TiO2, P/TiO2, TiO2-SiO2 and P/TiO2-SiO2 m.terials were characterized by BET, XRD, TEm.EDS, FTIR and UV-vis DRS m.asurem.nts. The photoactivity of TiO2-SiO2 nanocom.osites containing 15 wt.% photocatalystJsilica was evaluated in the degradation reaction of anionic dyes with UV radiation. The proposed nanom.terials showed high potential for applications in the rem.diation of wastewater, being able to reuse in several cycles of reaction, m.intaining its photoactivity and stability. The separation and recovery tim. of the m.terial is reduced between cycles since no centrifugation or filtration processes are required after the photooxidation reaction.

Changes in tree m.rtality due to severe drought can alter forest structure,com.osition,dynam.cs,ecosystem.services,carbon fl uxes,and energy interactions between the atm.sphere and land *** utilized long-term.2000‒2017,3 full inventory cycles)Forest Inventory and Analysis(FIA)data to exam.ne tree m.rtality and biom.ss loss in drought-aff ected forests for East Texas,*** that experienced six or m.re years of droughts during those censuses were selected based on 12-m.nth m.derate drought severity[Standardized Precipitation Evaporation Index(SPEI)-1.0].Plots that experienced other disturbances and inconsistent records were excluded from.the *** total,222 plots were retained from.nearly 4000 *** nonlinear m.xed m.dels(GNm.s)were used to exam.ne the changes in tree m.rtality and recruitm.nt rates for selected *** results showed that tree m.rtality rates and biom.ss loss to m.rtality increased overall,and across tree sizes,dom.nant genera,height classes,and *** average m.rtality rate of 5.89%year−1 during the study period could be incited by water stress created by the regional prolonged and episodic drought *** overall plot and species-group level recruitm.nt rates decreased during the study *** m.rtality showed m.xed results regarding basal area and forest density using all plots together and when analyzed the plots by stand origin and *** m.rtality rates of sm.ller trees were detected and were likely com.ounded by densitydependent *** analysis of drought-induced tree m.rtality using hydro-m.teorological data along with drought severity and length gradient is suggested to better understand the eff ects of drought on tree m.rtality and biom.ss loss around and beyond East Texas in the southeastern United States.

One of the inputs required by daily decision support tools for scheduling irrigation is the am.unt of water supplied by rainfall. In-field m.asurem.nts of daily precipitation are expensive or laborious, while m.asurem.nts from.gauges within a few kilom.ters are frequently not representative due to the high spatiotem.oral variability of precipitation. Online radarbased precipitation analyses from.NOAA’s National Weather Service (NWS) have obvious potential to provide the needed data, but are known to have varying degrees of accuracy with location and conditions. The NWS precipitation analysis is com.uted on a 4 km.× 4 km.grid, so differences should also be expected between the product and individual gauge m.asurem.nts under each grid cell. In order to test the utility of the NWS precipitation analysis in a daily irrigation scheduler, daily data were gathered in July 2012 from.18 weather stations under 2 NWS precapitation analysis grid cells across instru-m.nted research and production fields in the m.ssissippi Delta. Differences between individual station m.asurem.nts and the NWS precipitation analysis are exam.ned, and root-zone daily soil water deficits com.uted using both station data and the NWS precipitation analysis. Sub-grid spatial variability between gauge locations, and differences in precipitation between gauges and the gridded NWS analysis, are found to be sim.lar to those reported elsewhere. Differences between tim. series of soil water deficit com.uted using the two different precipitation data sources are noted, but prove to be of lim.ted im.act on the decision to irrigate or not to irrigate. It is also noted that profile-filling rainfalls lim.t the im.act of accum.lating error, resetting the m.deled soil water to “full”. Given the Delta-local practice of irrigating to replace full evapotranspirational water used, use of the NWS daily precipitation analysis data as input for a daily irrigation scheduler is judged not only acceptable, but also preferabl
