Platypnea-onhodeoxia syndrome (POS) describes a clinical entity of arterial hypoxemia in the upright position associated with dyspnoea, which is relieved by recumbency. The syndrome is caused by an intracardiac or intrapulmonary shunt, or ventilation-perfusion mismatching. We describe here the first case of resolving/relapsing POS induced by intracardiac right-to-left shunting that was partly dependent on volume overload.

We prove that any C1-stable weakly shadowable volume-preserving diffeomorphism defined on a compact manifold displays a dominated splitting E ⊕ F. Moreover, both E and F are volume-hyperbolic. Finally, we prove the version of this result for divergence-free vector fields. As a consequence, in low dimensions, we obtain global hyperbolicity.

A high percentage of the world's population lives in areas where air pollutant concentrations exceed the World Health Organization guidelines.This work aims to develop and test,a high-resolution multi-scale air pollution modelling system by integrating a set of adequate tools.This system is able to provide detailed air pollutant concentrations in urban areas and support air quality management strategies through a better identification of different atmospheric processes.It also allows furthering the design and assessment of air pollution control measures for a specific area.To evaluate its performance and suitability,the system was applied to the Macao Special Administrative Region(SAR),China,one of the most densely populated areas on earth,during a winter period when this area is affected by high levels of Particulate Matter(PM).Although the developed system tends to underestimate the PM concentrations,it revealed a good performance in reproducing the temporal and spatial air pollution patterns.Several exceedances of the Chinese air quality standards were calculated and high population exposure to PM pollution was estimated.The tested urban atmospheric emission reduction scenarios have shown air quality improvements,indicating that emission reduction measures at urban level should focus on the domestic sector.However,it is crucial to implement joint pollution prevention strategies with neighbouring regions to improve the air quality in Macao SAR.The approach developed in this work can support policymakers in defining new strategies to reduce atmospheric pollution in urban areas.

Our understanding of eukaryote biology is dominated by the study of land plants, animals and fungi. However, these are only three isolated fragments of the full diversity of extant eukaryotes. The majority of eu-karyotes, in terms of major taxa and probably also sheer numbers of cells, consists of exclusively or predomi-nantly unicellular lineages. A surprising number of these lineages are poorly characterized. nonetheless, they are fundamental to our understanding of eukaryote biology and the underlying forces that shaped it. This article consists of an overview of the current state of our understanding of the eukaryote tree. This includes the identity of the major groups of eukaryotes, some of their important, defining or simply interesting features and the pro-posed relationships of these groups to each other.

Objectives:Adolescents using active transport(AT)to school have higher levels of physical activity(PA)compared with motorized transport(MT)users.This study compared school day and weekend day PA in adolescents using AT,MT,or combined AT and MT(AT + MT)to travel to school.Methods:Adolescents(n= 314;age:14.7±1.4 years;32.8% boys)from Dunedin(new Zealand)wore an accelerometer for 7 days and completed a self-reported survey regarding mode of transport to school(73 AT,56 AT + MT,and 185 MT).Data were analyzed using t tests,analysis of variance,and χ2 tests.Results:Although the proportion of adolescents meeting PA guidelines significantly differed among transport groups(AT,47.9%;AT + MT,46.4%;MT,33.5%;p=0.048;overall,39.2%),the observed differences were due mainly to girls.Compared with MT,AT and AT+MT engaged in more moderate-to-vigorous PA(MVPA)per day(AT:61.2 ± 23.2 min;AT+MT:59.6 ± 21.7 min;MT:52.5 ± 19.6 min;p = 0.004;pnder),per school day and before school.Immediately after school(15:00-16:00),AT engaged in significantly more MVPA compared with AT + MT and MT.no differences in MVPA between the groups were observed in the late afternoon/early evening period during school days or on weekend days.Conclusion:Compared with MT users,adolescent girls using AT or AT + MT accumulated more MVPA during school commute time.AT + MT to school is also a plausible way to increase adolescent girls’ PA when AT only is not feasible.

Background:The objective was to study the effect of hydroxychloride trace minerals(HTM)on growth performance,carcass quality and gut microbiota of broiler chickens in comparison to sulphate trace minerals(STM).In total 1440 male Ross 308 day-old chicks were divided into 12 replicate pens with 30 birds each per treatment.Four different treatments were tested according to a 2×2 factorial study design,where the animals received a three phase diet containing either inorganic Zn from sulphates or Zn from HTM in high(80 mg/kg Zn)or low Zn dosage(20 mg/kg Zn).In all treatments 15 mg/kg Cu was added from the same mineral source as the Zn.Body weight and feed intake were measured on day 0,10,27 and 34,while carcass and breast meat yields were measured at the end of the study(day 34).In addition,high-throughput sequencing analysis was performed in digesta samples from ileum and cecum to study the gut microbiome(day 34).Results:The results showed an improved(Pns fed HTM,regardless of Zn level,on day 27,while on day 34 this effect remained as a tendency(P=0.0542).In the overall study period,birds fed HTM had a higher(Pn and average daily feed intake when compared to birds fed STM.The mineral source did not affect the carcass characteristics,however,feeding 80 mg/kg Zn resulted in a significantly higher(P=0.0171)breast meat yield,regardless of source.High-throughput sequencing analysis of the microbiota revealed a higher microbial diversity in the ileum and cecum of HTM fed birds compared to STM fed birds.Taxonomical differences were mainly found in the cecum,specifically between the group fed high and low Zn levels from HTM.This correlated with the mineral contents observed in the cecal digesta.Comparing both groups fed 80 mg/kg Zn,the HTM group had more Streptococcaceae,Streptococcus,Clostridia,Weissella and Leuconostocaceae compared to the STM group.Conclusions:HTM improved growth performance of broiler chickens;and the source and level of Zn modulated the gut micro
