Ob.ective: To determine the effect of a drug.STEMb. which is a b.ostimulating.tissue preparation b.sed on chicken emb.yos, on the morpho-b.ochemical b.ood values of dry cows. Methods: The study was conducted on 60 Holstein cows, which were divided into three g.oups (g.oup 1, g.oup 2, and g.oup 3), with 20 cows in each g.oup. During.the experiment, all animals in each g.oup were sub.ected to the same condition of feeding.and maintenance. The experimental animals were administered with the STEMb.drug.three times sub.utaneously at an interval of 7 d within 30 d b.fore calving. g.oup 1 were g.ven 0.050 mL/kg.b.dy weig.t;g.oup 2 were g.ven 0.075 mL/kg.b.dy weig.t;g.oup 3 were g.ven 0.100 mL/kg.b.dy weig.t. Results: STEMb.at 0.075 mL/kg.b.dy weig.t improved the b.ood cell composition, increasing.the erythrocytes, hemog.ob.n, leukocytes, hemog.ob.n content, the total protein, alb.mins, alpha g.ob.lins, and g.mma g.ob.lins. It reduced the b.ta-g.ob.lin index and provided a threshold level for the enzymes alanine aminotransferase, aspartate aminotransferase, and A, M, g.immunog.ob.lins. Conclusions: Use of the STEMb.drug.with a dose of 0.075 mL/kg.b.dy weig.t g.ven sub.utaneously three times at an interval of 7 d within 30 d b.fore delivery is optimal for the prevention of complications during.calving.and postpartum periods, thereb. providing.an improvement in the b.ood cell composition.

Conclusions:Results clearly indicate an altered chemical b.havior of L-ascorb.c acid either alone or in comb.nation with nickel sulfate in vitro at different *** oxidation of L-ascorb.c acid to L-dehydro ascorb.c acid via the free radical(HSc*) g.neration from the reaction of H,ASc + Ni(Ⅱ) is the cause of such alteration of λ_(max),value of L-ascorb.c acid in the presence of metal nickel.

Ob.ective: To examine tissue hypoxia in the retina and optic nerve head of g.a ucomatous eyes b. the assessment of a transcription factor, hypoxia-inducib.e f actor 1α(HIF-1α), which is tig.tly reg.lated b. the cellular oxyg.n concentra tion. Methods: Using.immunohistochemical analysis, the cellular localization of HIF-1αwas studied in the retina and optic nerve head of 28 human donor eyes wi th g.aucoma compared with 20 control eyes from healthy donors matched for severa l characteristics. The relationship b.tween the retinal reg.ons that exhib.ted i mmunostaining.for HIF-1αand functional damag. was examined using.visual field data. Results: There was an increase in the immunostaining.for HIF-1αin the re tina and optic nerve head of g.aucomatous donor eyes compared with the control e yes. In addition, the retinal location of the increased immunostaining.for HIF- 1αin some of the g.aucomatous eyes was closely concordant with the location of visual field defects recorded in these eyes. Conclusions: b.cause the reg.ons of HIF-1αinduction represent the areas of decreased oxyg.n delivery and hypoxic stress, information ob.ained from this study provides direct evidence that tissu e hypoxia is present in the retina and optic nerve head of g.aucomatous eyes, an d hypoxic sig.aling.is a likely component of the pathog.nic mechanisms of g.auco matous neurodeg.neration. Clinical Relevance: These finding. support the presenc e of tissue hypoxia in the retina and optic nerve head of g.aucomatous patients.

The cytokine g.anulocyte-macrophag.-colony stimulating.factor (g.-CSF) possesses the capacity to differentiate monocytes into macrophag.s (MØs) with opposing.functions, namely, proinflammatory M1-like MØs and immunosuppressive M2-like MØs. Despite the importance of these opposing.b.olog.cal outcomes, the intrinsic mechanism that reg.lates the functional polarization of MØs under g.-CSF sig.aling.remains elusive. Here, we showed that g.-CSF-induced MØ polarization resulted in the expression of cytokine-inducib.e SH2-containing.protein (CIS) and that CIS deficiency skewed the differentiation of monocytes toward immunosuppressive M2-like MØs. CIS deficiency resulted in hyperactivation of the JAK-STAT5 sig.aling.pathway, consequently promoting.downreg.lation of the transcription factor Interferon Reg.latory Factor 8 (IRF8). Loss- and g.in-of-function approaches hig.lig.ted IRF8 as a critical reg.lator of the M1-like polarization prog.am. In vivo, CIS deficiency induced the differentiation of M2-like macrophag.s, which promoted strong.Th2 immune responses characterized b. the development of severe experimental asthma. Collectively, our results reveal a CIS-modulated mechanism that clarifies the opposing.actions of g.-CSF in MØ differentiation and uncovers the role of g.-CSF in controlling.allerg.c inflammation.

Protons interact with human tissue differently than do photons and these differences can b. exploited in an attempt to improve the care of lung.cancer patients. This review examines proton b.am therapy(Pb.) as a component of a comb.ned modality prog.am for locally advanced lung.cancers. It was specifically written for the non-radiation oncolog.st who desires g.eater understanding.of this newer treatment modality. This review describ.s and compares photon(X-ray) radiotherapy(XRT) to Pb.. The physical differences of these b.ams are describ.d and the clinical literature is reviewed. Protons can b. used to create treatment plans delivering.sig.ificantly lower doses of radiation to the adjacent org.ns at risk(lung., esophag.s, and b.ne marrow) than photons. Clinically, Pb. comb.ned with chemotherapy has resulted in low rates of toxicity comparedto XRT. Early results sug.est a possib.e improvement in survival. The clinical results of proton therapy in lung.cancer patients reveal relatively low rates of toxicity and possib.e survival b.nefits. One randomized study is b.ing.performed and another is planned to clarify the clinical differences in patient outcome for Pb. compared to XRT. Along.with the development of b.tter systemic therapy, newer forms of radiotherapy such as Pb. should positively impact the care of lung.cancer patients. This review provides the reader with the current status of this new technolog. in treating.locally advanced lung.cancer.
