this paper elaborates on the development of paste backfill using mill tailings generated during the processing of a uranium ore deposit hosted in dolomitic limestone. the tailings have been characterized in terms of the physical, chemical and mineralogical properties. time-dependent rheological behaviors and geotechnical properties of cemented paste backfill(CPB) are also determined. the studies show that the mill tailing has the potential to form paste and the CPB has adequate strength to provide support to mine pillars, roofs, and walls.

Micromechanical and tribological studies of geological materials with a particular focus on their contact-mechanics behavior at the grain scale are currently a major interest in the engineering and geoscience disciplines. In this study, a new robust micromechanical apparatus developed at the City University of Hong Kong is described;it is capable of conducting inter-granule(or inter-particle) loading tests on fine gravel to ballast-sized materials of sizes as small as 5-10 mm to granules(or ballast) as big as 50 mm. the focus of our study is the description of the major technical features of the new apparatus and its performance and repeatability in conducting experiments on reference grains of chrome steel balls and glass balls;in addition, we conducted a preliminary set of experiments on crushed granitic rock, which is a material widely used in geotechnical and transportation infrastructure. the representative results of these experiments are presented in terms of the normal force-displacement relationship, friction, and tangential stiffness. the newly developed large-size apparatus is further compared with a well-established apparatus that can conduct micromechanical tests on sand-sized materials.

the cellulosic bast fibers are recognized as a justifiable and biodegradable substitute for producing moderate strength polymer composite materials because of their characteristics of renewability,ecofriendliness,and higher specific *** the aim of this research work is to fabricate Himalayan bast fibers(Nettle fiber(NF)/bauhinia vahlii fiber(BF)) based mono/hybrid epoxy composites at varying weight percentage of 2-6 wt% and evaluate the physical(void fraction and water absorption),mechanical(tensile strength,flexural strength,hardness) and sliding wear properties of as-fabricated *** 6 wt% NBF reinforced composites exhibited higher mechanical properties as compared to NF and BF composites with tensile strength of 34.04 MPa,flexural strength of 42.45 MPa,and hardness of 37.01 Hv *** influence of various control factors(sliding velocity,NF/BF/NBF contents,normal load and sliding distance) on specific sliding wear rate of composites was evaluated by taguchi(three factors at three levels) experimental design and the percentage contribution of these selected parameters on sliding wear performance was examined by Analysis of variance(ANOVA).the sliding wear property of as-developed composites was found to be greatly influenced by sliding velocity and the wear resistance was observed to be improved with the NF/BF/NBF *** wear mechanism of the as-fabricated composites has been elucidated by scanning electron microscopy *** research outcomes demonstrated that the hybridization of Bauhinia vahlii fiber with Nettle fiber led to improve the mechanical and wear properties of epoxy composites.

the structural,electronic,and magnetic properties of the Nd-doped Rare earth aluminate,La1-xNdxAlO3（x = 0%to 100%） alloys are studied using the full potential linearized augmented plane wave（FP-LAPW） method within the density functional *** effects of the Nd substitution in La AlO3 are studied using the supercell *** computed electronic structure with the modified Becke–Johnson（m BJ） potential based approximation indicates that the La1-xNdxAlO3 alloys may possess half-metallic（HM） behaviors when doped with Nd of a finite density of states at the Fermi level（EF）.the direct and indirect band gaps are studied each as a function of x which is the concentration of Nddoped La *** calculated magnetic moments in the La1-xNdxAlO3 alloys are found to arise mainly from the Nd-4f state.A probable half-metallic nature is suggested for each of these systems with supportive integral magnetic moments and highly spin-polarized electronic structures in these doped systems at *** observed decrease of the band gap with the increase in the concentration of Nd doping in La AlO3 is a suitable technique for harnessing useful spintronic and magnetic devices.

AIM to understand the role of knowledge as a promoter of hepatitis C virus(HCV) screening among primary care physicians(PCP).MEtHODS A 45-item online questionnaire assessing knowledge of HCV natural history, risk factors, and treatment was distributed to 163 PCP. Logistic regression, adjusted for survey responses, assessed associations between PCP knowledge of HCV natural history and treatment and birth cohort(i.e., birth between 1945 and 1965) screening. Response stratification and weighting were used to account for nonresponse and to permit extension of responses to the entire survey population. Associations between various predictors including demographic characteristics, level of training, and HCV treatment experience and HCV knowledge were *** Ninety-one individuals(55.8%) responded. Abnormal liver enzymes(49.4%), assessment of HCV-related risk factors(30.6%), and birth cohort membership(20%) were the leading HCV screening indications. Most PCP(64.7%) felt that the combination of risk-factor and birth cohort screening utilizing a self-administered survey while awaiting the physician(55.3%) were the most efficient screening practices. Implementation of birth cohort screening was associated with awareness of the recommendations(P-value = 0.01), knowledge of HCV natural history(P-value t of HCV patients(P-value th knowledge of HCV treatment was also knowledgeable about HCV natural history(P-value tions was associated with HCV treatment knowledge(P-value = 0.03).CONCLUSION Comprehensive knowledge of HCV is critical to motivate HCV screening. PCP-targeted educational interventions are required to expand the HCV workforce and linkageto-care opportunities as we seek global HCV eradication.

Background:Mangroves are important tropical carbon sinks,and their role in mitigating climate change is well documented across the ***,the ecosystem carbon stocks in the mangroves of India have not been studied *** from this region is very limited for providing sufficient insights and authentic evaluation of carbon stocks on a regional *** this study,we evaluated the ecosystem carbon stock and its spatial variation in mangroves of Kerala,southwest coast of ***:the mean biomass stored in mangrove vegetation of Kerala is 117.11±1.02 t/ha(ABG=80.22±0.80,BGB=36.89±0.23 t/ha).Six mangrove species were found distributed in the study *** the different species,Avicennia marina had the highest biomass(162.18 t/ha)and least biomass was observed in Sonneratia alba(0.61 t/ha).the mean ecosystem carbon stock of mangrove systems in Kerala was estimated to be 139.82 t/ha,equivalent to 513.13 t CO2 e/ha with the vegetation and soil storing 58.56 t C/ha and 81.26 t C/ha ***:the present study reveals that Kerala mangroves store sizable volume of carbon and therefore need to be preserved and managed sustainably,to retain along with the increase in carbon *** features the need of broadening mangrove cover as well as restoring deteriorated land in the past 50 *** mangrove forests in this region are protected by the Kerala Forest Department,they have been frequently facing illegal encroachment,prawn cultivation,and coastal erosion.

Background Genome wide association study identified hedgehog interacting protein gene(HHIP)variants with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease and *** of HHIP,a key regulator of the hedgehog signaling pathway,leads to impaired lung morphogenesis and lethality in animal models,through unimpeded sonic hedgehog expression blocking mesenchymal-expressed fibroblast growth factor 10(FGF10).Since bronchopulmonary dysplasia(BPD)is also associated with altered lung development and worsens with stimuli including mechanical ventilation,reactive oxygen species,and inflammation,HHIP and FGF10 may be candidate *** this was an observational,cohort study including extremely low birth weight infants that who developed BPD and those who did *** was isolated from buccal swabs and subjected to allelic discrimination,using specific HHIP and FGF10 *** levels were measured in tracheal ***'s t test,Chi-square,Z test and logistic regression were *** Demographic characteristics did not differ except that birth weight(715±153 vs.835±132 g)and gestational age(25 vs.26 weeks)were less in babies with *** variant rs 13147758(GG genotype)was found to be independently protective for BPD(odds ratio 0.35,95%confidence interval 0.15-0.82,P=-0.02).Early airway HHIP protein levels were increased in infants with BPD compared to those without[median(interquartile range)130.6(55.6-297.0)and 41.2(22.1-145.6)pg/mL,respectively;P=0.05].the FGF10 single nucleotide polymorphisms were not associated with *** HHIP,as a regulator of lung bud formation,affects BPD susceptibility,and may be valuable in understanding the specific mechanisms for this disease as well as for identifying therapeutic targets in the era of personalized medicine.
