Outbreak of autoimmune diseases by pathogenic yeasts has led to a serious medical threat. As these organisms evolve resistance to existing antifungal drugs, the concern could be further compounded. The realm of plant derived products offers a wide spectrum of potentially valuable alternatives to the existing synthetic fungicides. Essential oils from sev-eral medicinal plants have been shown to exhibit pharmacological attributes. In the present study, anti-yeast properties of Oregano essential oil (OEO) were examined in vitro against four human patho-genic yeasts i.e., Candida albicans, Cryptococcus al-bidus, Cryptococcus neoformans and Rhodotorula ru-brum. OEO concentration of 200 μg/mL was found to be growth inhibitory against all four yeasts examined, thereby showing its potential to function as a natural anti-yeast agent.

Biomass accumulation and partitioning into different plant parts is a dynamic process during the plant growing period, which is influenced by crop management and climate factors. Adequate knowledge of biomass partitioning is important to manage the crops to gain maximum partitioning of assimilates into plant parts of economic significance, i.e. tubers in potato. This study was conducted using two potato cultivars grown in a sandy soil with center pivot irrigation under full irrigation (FI;irrigation to replenish 100% of water loss by evapotranspiration [ET]) and deficit irrigation (DI;replenish only 80% ET) and two nitrogen(N) rates (pre-plant + in-seasonN rates of 56 + 112 or 168 + 336 kg/ha). Plant samples were taken on 22, 44, 66, and 98 days after seedling emergence (DAE). With high N rate, tuber biomass of ‘Umatilla Russet’ cultivar in relation to total plant biomass varied from 23% - 88% and 25% - 86% over 22 to 98 DAE for the FI and DI treatments, respectively. The corresponding partitioning ranges were 30% - 93% and 38% - 93% at the low N rate. With respect to the‘Ranger Russet’ cultivar, biomass partitioning to tubers ranged from 36% - 82% and 23% - 84% for the FI and DI, respectively, at the high N rate, and 29% - 87% and 39% - 95% at the low N rate. Overall, this study demonstrated that within the range of N rate and irrigation treatments the biomass portioning into tubers was largely similar in both cultivars.

Berry fruits are known as“superfoods”due to health benefits associated with the high content of bioactive compounds or *** extraction solvents are fundamentally volatile compounds acquired from non-renewable resources,i.e petroleum-based solvents are presumed to be harmful to both human health and the *** to the new emphasis on environmental and safety protections and the development of green chemistry,finding alternative solvents to replace the organic ones has recently become a major ***,there is a great interest in the scientific community to develop a suitable green approach to allow the extraction and recovery of the bioactive phytonutrients from berry sources for applications in improving human health and *** this study,the phytonutrient composition of three popular wild berries:blueberry(Vaccinium angustifolium),partridgeberry(Vaccinium vitis-idaea L.)and Rosehipberry(Rosa canina),were evaluated following extraction using biphasic green solvents at pH 2.5,7.0,and 11.5 under pressurized conditions using Accelerated Solvent Extraction(ASE)*** total phenolic content and composition,antioxidant activity,vitamin and mineral content of the berry extracts were evaluated using Folin-Ciocalteu assay,Ferric Reducing Antioxidant Power Assay(FRAP),Ultra-High-pressure Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry(UHPLC-MS)and inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry(ICP-MS),*** highest total antioxidant activity(p≤0.05)and phenolic content were observed in rosehip berry followed by blueberry and partridgeberry in the hydroethanolic extracts at pH ***,the highest extraction efficiency of total fat-soluble vitamins(FSV)and total B vitamins were also observed in the hydroethanolic extract at pH *** in rosehipberry and partridgeberry the highest vitamin C content was observed in hydroethanolic extract at pH 11.5,whereas in blueberry it was observed in the pH 2.5 hydroethanolic extract.I

The long-term success of hydrogenase uptake negative legume-rhizobia associations, in spite of their apparent inefficiency, may be explained by the positive effects of H2 release to soil. A primary benefit of H2 release to soil is the stimulation of H2-oxidizing, plant growth promoting rhizobacteria (PGPR) [1]. Two such previously isolated strains were tested as seed inoculants for barley and spring wheat;there were significant differences between treatments and controls in tiller and grain head production, supported by data from greenhouse trials. T-RFLP analysis of barley soil samples, supported by DNA sequencing data, successfully distinguished both species inoculated. Successful re-isolation indicates that these isolates can reproduce themselves in soils and can be used as effective inoculants with peat as the standard carrier. This study showed that we are able to achieve some of the beneficial effects of crop rotation without the need to implement actual crop rotation.

Over the past fi ve years, tropical activity in the East Pacifi c has increased, while declining in the Atlantic Basin. In addition, during El Ni?o years, warmer than average sea surface temperatures further increase the likelihood of tropical cyclone formation in the East Pacifi c. Hurricane fi eld campaigns used the Ku-/Ka-band HighAltitude Wind and Rain Airborne Profi ler(HIWRAP) radar on the Global Hawk(GH) unmanned aircraft, in GRIP(Genesis and Rapid Intensifi cation Processes 2010), HS3(Hurricane and Severe Storm Sentinel 2012-14), and the NOAA Sensing Hazards with Operational Unmanned Technology(SHOUT 2015-16) fi eld campaigns. Although originally designed for the GH, the X-band high-altitude RADar(EXRAD) has yet to be integrated and fl own on an unmanned aerial vehicle. EXRAD will provide data with less attenuation of signal over deep convection as well as better estimates of three-dimensional winds with its nadir-pointing beam. As part of the NASA Hand On Project Experience(HOPE) Training Opportunity, our team proposed to fl y the AV-6 GH aircraft with the EXRAD radar, the High Altitude MMIC Sounding Radiometer(HAMSR), and NOAA Advanced Vertical Atmospheric Profi ling System(AVAPS) dropsondes to investigate genesis and/or rapid intensifi cation(RI) of an East Pacifi c hurricane by measuring both the environment and interior structures. Information on planned activities primarily focused on the EXRAD high-altitude radar integration for the July-August 2017 science fl ight will be presented.

D1 versus Modified D2 Gastrectomy for Ca Stomach—A Prospective and Comparative Study

Background: Carcinoma stomach remains a major malignancy and accounts for 10.4% of cancer related deaths globally. Despite improvement in chemo-radiotherapy, surgery remains the primary curative modality with special emphasis on lymphadenectomy. However the extent of lymphadenectomy performed by surgeons all over the world differs. Generally speaking, in Japan and Korea, the standard curative protocol would entail a “D2” lymphadenectomy whereas in the western world it would be considered unnecessary and the standard protocol would entail a standard “D1” lymphadenectomy. Thus prompting a newer surgical therapy of modified D2 in dissection in which pancreas and spleen are preserved. Lymph nodes surrounding stomach are divided into 20 stations and these are classified into three groups depending upon the location of the primary tumour. Aims & Objectives: The aims and objectives are to compare: 1) operative time of modified D2 gastrectomy with that of D1 gastrectomy;2) operative morbidity and mortality of modified D2 gastrectomy with that of D1 gastrectomy;3) the disease recurrence between modified D2 & D1 gastrectomy. Materials & Method: The study entitled D1 versus modified D2 gastrectomy for Ca stomach—a prospective, comparative study was conducted in the Postgraduate Department of General Surgery, Government Medical College, Srinagar as a prospective, comparative study over a period of three years 2012-2014. Patients with resectable gastric cancer were taken as subjects for the study and were divided in 2 groups that were closely matched to avoid any bias. Assessment of both the groups was done in identical fashion as per standard protocol. One group underwent gastrectomy with D1 lymph node dissection whereas the other group underwent gastrectomy with a modified D2 lymph node dissection (spleen and pancreas preservation). The type of lymphadenectomy was decided on randomization (simple random sampling). Results: After comparing the two procedures, it was noted that:

El Soplao outcrop, an Early Cretaceous amber deposit recently discovered in northern Spain （Cantabria）, has been shown to be the largest site of amber with arthropod inclusions that has been found in Spain so far. Relevant data provided herein for biogeochemistry of the amber, palynology, taphonomy and arthropod bioinclusions complement those previously published. This set of data suggests at least two botanical sources for the amber of El Soplao deposit. The first （type A amber） strongly supports a source related to Cheirolepidiaceae, and the second （type B amber） shows non-specific conifer biomarkers. Comparison of molecular composition of type A amber with Frenelopsis leaves （Cheirolepidiaceae） strongly suggests a biochemical affinity and a common botanical origin. A preliminary palynological study indicates a regional high taxonomical diversity, mainly of pteridophyte spores and gymnosperm pollen grains. According to the preliminary palynological data, the region was inhabited by conifer forests adapted to a dry season under a subtropical climate. The abundant charcoalified wood associated with the amber in the same beds is evidence of paleofires that most likely promoted both the resin production and an intensive erosion of the litter, and subsequent great accumulation of amber plus plant cuticles. In addition, for the first time in the fossil record, charcoalified plant fibers as bioinclnsions in amber are reported. Other relevant taphonomic data are the exceptional presence of serpulids and bryozoans on the surfaces of some amber pieces indicating both a long exposure on marine or brackish-water and a mixed assemblage of amber. lastly, new findings of insect bioiuclusions, some of them uncommon in the fossil record or showing remarkable adaptations, are reported. In conclusion, a documented scenario for the origin of the El Soplao amber outcrop is provided.
