Marek’s disease (MD) is a lymphoprolif.rative disease of.domestic chickens caused by Marek’s disease virus (MDV), an oncogenic and highly contagious α-herpesvirus. MD has been controlled by vaccination but sporadic outbreaks of.MD still occur in some parts of.the world. Ef.orts to improve vaccine ef.icacy have continued in both research communities and vaccine industries. We reported the host genetic variation af.ecting Marek’s disease vaccine-induced immunity in chickens earlier. In this study, we evaluated chicken lines, vaccines, and line by vaccine interaction on the protective ef.icacy of.vaccination against MD. Specif.c pathogen f.ee chickens f.om the relatively resistant line 63 and the highly susceptible line 72 were primarily used to evaluate the protection by three kinds of.vaccines (rMd5ΔMeq, CVI988/Rispens, and HVT) upon challenge with a very virulent plus strain of.MDV, vv+648A. Our data conf.rmed that both the chicken line and the vaccine signif.cantly af.ected the protective ef.icacy of.vaccination and showed that a chicken line by vaccine interaction, in most of.the trials, also altered vaccine protective ef.icacy. More interestingly, although the protective index of.all vaccine strains was higher in resistant than in susceptible line of.chickens, the dif.erence f.r HVT protection was striking and warrants f.rther study. The f.ndings may have important implications f.r vaccine development as well as f.r selective use of.particular vaccines in specif.c lines of.chickens to achieve maximum protection at minimized costs.

Control of.dust in underground coal mines is critical f.r mitigating both saf.ty and health *** decades,the National Institute of.Occupational Saf.ty and Health(NIOSH)has led research to evaluate the ef.ectiveness of.various dust control technologies in coal *** studies have included the evaluation of.auxiliary scrubbers to reduce respirable dust downstream of.active mining and the use of.canopy air curtains(CACs)to reduce respirable dust in key operator *** detailed dust characterization was not a f.cus of.such studies,this is a growing area of.*** preserved f.lter samples f.om three previous NIOSH studies,the current work aims to explore the ef.ect of.two dif.erent scrubbers(one wet and one dry)and a roof.bolter CAC on respirable dust composition and particle size *** this,the preserved f.lter samples were analyzed by thermogravimetric analysis and/or scanning electron microscopy with energy dispersive *** indicate that dust composition was not appreciably af.ected by either scrubber or the ***,the wet scrubber and CAC appeared to decrease the overall particle size *** an ef.ect of.the dry scrubber was not consistently observed,but this is probably related to the particular sampling location downstream of.the scrubber which allowed f.r signif.cant mixing of.the scrubber exhaust and other return *** f.om the insights gained with respect to the three specif.c dust control case studies revisited here,this work demonstrates the value of.preserved dust samples f.r f.llow-up investigation more broadly.

Herbaceous energy crops are generally characterized by a higher ash content with a low melting point,and can contain high levels of.nitrogen and sulphur,if.compared to the wooden biomass.A series of.combustion tests were carried out using a 15 k W commercial scale boiler in order to evaluate the possible application of.pellets made using dif.erent energy crops（f.ber sorghum,miscanthus and giant reed）.The combustion perf.rmance,the tendency to the slag f.rmation as well as the f.ue gas composition（O2,CO2,CO,NOX,SO2,VOC and particulate emissions） were *** presents a very high content of.ashes with a low melting *** use in the traditional boilers is not advisable because of.the high tendency to the slag and ash cake f.rmation and the high level of.dust *** and giant reed,despite the high ash content and the unf.vourable ash melting properties,can be burned in commercial pellet boilers,as long as the boiler is adapted and optimised f.r high ash content *** measured high level of.NOX and SO2 emissions is highly related to the concentration of.N and S in the f.el.

Photo-Electric Microbe Sensor is a patented biotechnology that detects microbes in aqueous solution by measuring the change in photo-voltage in response to UV light stimulation of.a platinum (Pt) disk surf.ce on an electrode bef.re and af.er immunoprecipitation of.microbes. This study aimed to increase the sensitivity of.microbe detection by pre-adsorbing recombinant Streptococcal Protein G (PG), to the Pt sensor surf.ce. Streptococcal PG binds the f. region of.mammalian IgG molecules and we investigated the association of.PG to Pt and the resulting ability to tether antibodies to the Pt-PG surf.ce. An ELISA protocol was optimized to detect the presence of.mouse monoclonal antibodies tethered to Pt immunoaf.inity disks, and to determine the recommended blocking solution and reagent concentrations. Our results demonstrate that PG binds to bare Pt, increases IgG af.inity to the Pt surf.ce f.llowing Superblock Buf.er application, and together of.ers design-options f.r Pt-based sensor technologies.

Objective: To def.ne how the community pharmacist contributes to the management of.heart f.ilure by exploring the type of.service he provides to patients and by assessing what patients expect f.om him. Setting: Pharmacists of.the f.anche-Comte region (f.ance) and patients of.the f.anche-Comté Heart Association. Method: Two questionnaires were drawn up and sent to pharmacists and patients. Results: The 118 pharmacists participating in this survey (36.9%) f.lt that they had a role to play in dispensing drugs (100.0%), educating patients about their treatment (83.1%), inf.rming patients about the importance of.observance (81.4%) and over- the-counter drugs (58.5%), distributing heart f.ilure brochures (51.7%) and providing medical equipment (44.9%). On the other hand, only a third of.them thought that they should inf.rm patients about their illness and give advice by phone. On the whole, knowledge level is good f.r disease, drug therapy, contraindicated drugs, medical supervision and hygieno-dietetic management, but intermediate or poor f.r alert signs of.decompensation, essential vaccinations and patient associations. University training in this area during f.rmal pharmacy studies is considered either “insuf.icient” or “very insuf.icient” in 56.9% of.cases. Although more than 99% of.the pharmacists think that additional training is needed, only 33.1% had actually benef.ted f.om such training. Of.the 96 patients (48.0%) who completed the questionnaire, 92.6% are f.ithf.l to their pharmacist. They contact him more about drug therapy than about their disease, or inf.rmation related to treatments. Roles attributed to their pharmacist are mainly related to drug therapy explanation and inf.rmation concerning over-the-counter drugs. Therapeutic education is known to 40.6% of.interrogated patients. Among these patients, two-thirds depend on their pharmacist and f.el that he is capable of.providing the necessary education.
