Interactions between invasive eurasian watermilfoil and native water stargrass in Cayuga Lake, NY, USA

Aims eurasian watermilfoil(Myriophyllum spicatum L.)is a common invasive plant in American lakes and has many negative impacts on invaded *** decline of this plant at the north-ern end of Cayuga Lake in the New York State has occurred since the 1980s,with a much smaller magnitude of decline of eurasian watermilfoil at the southern end(Johnson et al.2000)During the same period,increases in the abundance of native plants,partic-ularly water stargrass(Heteranthera dubia(Jacq.)MacMill.),have been observed(Johnson et al.(1998))We aimed to investigate the mechanisms responsible for the decline of eurasian watermilfoil and evaluate the responses of co-occurring plants at the two ends of Cayuga Lake over *** hypothesized that plant interactions might have contributed to the drastic decline of eurasian watermil-foil,particularly allelopathy by native water *** A lake survey was conducted to assess distribution and abundance of plant communities at the northern end and the southern end of Cayuga ***,two sets of greenhouse experiments were conducted to investigate the interactions between invasive eurasian watermilfoil and native water stargrass.A competition experiment evaluated intra-versus inter-specific competition among plants grown together;an allelopathy experiment examined the responses of plants to each other’s *** Findings The lake survey showed that water stargrass was extremely abun-dant at the northern end,whereas eurasian watermilfoil was sparse at the northern end but one of the most common species at the southern *** survey also revealed that water stargrass was more abundant than eurasian watermilfoil at sites where the two species coexisted in the *** from greenhouse experi-ments revealed no effects of eurasian watermilfoil on water star-grass ***,eurasian watermilfoil biomass was reduced by 46%when treated with high concentration of water stargrass *** is likely d

Kinetic Alfven Waves excited by Cometary Newborn Ions with Large Perpendicular energies

Stability of the kinetic Alfven wave in a plasma of hydrogen, oxygen and electrons is studied. each species is modeled by drifting ring distributions in the direction parallel to the magnetic field, while in the perpendicular direction the distribution is simulated with a loss cone type distribution obtained through the subtraction of two Maxwellian distributions with different temperatures. It is found that for frequencies ω＊〈 ωcH with ω＊ and ωcH the Doppler shifted and hydrogen ion gyro-frequencies, respectively, the growth rate of the kinetic Alfven wave increases with the increase in propagation angles and density of oxygen ions. On the other hand, for frequencies ω＊〈 ωco with ωco the oxygen ion gyro-frequency the growth rate is independent of the oxygen ion density.

Predicting the effects of selected reservoir petrophysical properties on bottomhole pressure via three computational intelligence techniques

This study investigates the effects of selected petrophysical properties on predicting flowing well bottomhole *** efficiently situate the essence of this investigation,genetic,imperialist competitive and whale optimization algorithms were used in predicting the bottomhole pressure of a reservoir using production data and some selected petrophysical properties as independent input variables.A total of 15,633 data sets were collected from Volvo field in Norway,and after screening the data,a total of 9161 data sets were used to develop apt computational intelligence *** data were randomly divided into three different groups:training,validation,and testing *** case scenarios were considered in this *** first scenario involved the prediction of flowing bottomhole pressure using only eleven independent variables,while the second scenario bothered on the prediction of the same flowing bottomhole pressure using the same independent variables and two selected petrophysical properties(porosity and permeability).each of the two scenarios involved as implied in the first scenario,the use of three(3)heuristic search optimizers to determine optimal model *** optimizers were allowed to choose the optimal number of layers(between 1 and 10),the optimal number of nodal points(between 10 and 100)for each layer and the optimal learning rate required per task/*** results,showed that the models were able to learn the problems well with the learning rate fixed from 0.001 to 0.0001,although this became successively slower as the leaning rate *** the chosen model configuration,the results suggest that a moderate learning rate of 0.0001 results in good model performance on the trained and tested data *** the three heuristic search optimizers based on minimum MSe,RMSe,MAe and highest coefficient of determination(R^(2))for the actual and predicted values,shows that the imperialist competitive algorithm optimizer predicted

Lithium-sulfur battery(LSB)represents an important candidate to be used in energy storage applications,due to its high specific ***-polyacrylonitrile(SPAN)is a candidate as a host material in LSB to replace graphite,due to its ability to chemisorb polysulfides(PSs).The sulfur chains attached to the polymer can reversibly form Li2S,and SPAN indicates to have a good cyclability and better performance than graphite,thus,SPAN acts partially as an active and also as a host *** this study,we investigated the capacity of the solvent or the SPAN to lose a hydrogen atom from the backbone,to predict possible anodic reactions between solvent and host *** simulation suggests that the photophilic salts may preferentially react with the solvent,and possibly building a cathode electrolyte interphase(CeI).We observed that an undercoordinated carbon(C_(uc))can be thermodynamically created,due to *** Cuccan react with the solvent on the polymer backbone through different mechanisms,however,the simulations indicated that the reaction should be affected by the interaction between the solvent and C_(uc),according to SPAN’s ***,C_(uc)reacts with long sulfur chains attached to SPAN,capturing sulfur and forming a C-S bond.A sulfur chain from one SPAN can connect to another polymer backbone,however,this process is affected by lithiation and ***,this work also investigates the formation of interconnected SPAN structures and the multiple C_(uc)effects.

Application of artificial intelligence in predicting the dynamics of bottom hole pressure for under-balanced drilling:extra tree compared with feed forward neural network model

This study used six fields data alongside correlation heat map to evaluate the field parameters that affect the accuracy of bottom hole pressure(BHP)*** six oil field data were acquired using measurement while drilling device to collect surface measurements of the downhole pressure data while *** the two case studies,measured field data of the wellbore filled with gasified mud system was utilized,and the wellbores were drilled using rotary jointed drill *** Randomized Tree and feed forward neural network algorithms were used to develop models that can predict with high accuracy,BHP from measured field *** modeling purpose,an extensive data from six fields was used,and the proposed model was further validated with two data from two new *** gathered data encompasses a variety of well data,general information/data,depths,hole size,and *** developed model was compared with data obtained from two new fields based on its capability,stability and *** result and model’s performance from the error analysis revealed that the two proposed extra Tree and Feed Forward models replicate the bottom hole pressure data with R2 greater than *** high values of R^(2) for the two models suggest the relative reliability of the modelling *** magnitudes of mean squared error and mean absolute percentage error for the predicted BHPs from both models range from 0.33 to 0.34 and 2.02%-2.14%,for the extra tree model and 0.40-0.41 and 3.90%e3.99%for Feed Forward model respectively;the least errors were recorded for the extra Tree ***,the mean absolute error of the extra Tree model for both fields(9.13-10.39 psi)are lower than that of the Feed Forward model(10.98-11 psi),thus showing the higher precision of the extra Tree model relative to the Feed Forward *** has shown that underbalanced operation does not guarantee the improvement of horizontal well’s extension ability,because it mainly depends on t

evaluation of influential parameters for supersonic dehydration of natural gas: Machine learning approach

The supersonic dehydration of natural gas is gaining more attention due to its numerous advantages over the conventional natural gas dehydration ***,supersonic separators have seen minimal field applications despite the multiple benefits over other gas dehydration *** has been mostly attributed to the uncertainty in ascertaining the design and operating parameters that should be monitored to ensure optimum dehydration of the supersonic separation *** this study,the decision tree machine learning model is employed in investigating the effects of design and operating parameters(inlet and outlet pressures,nozzle length,throat diameter,and pressure loss ratio)on the supersonic separator performance during dehydration of natural *** model results show that the significant parameters influencing the shock wave location are the pressure loss ratio and nozzle *** former was found to have the most significant effect on the dew point *** dehydration efficiency is mainly dependent on the pressure loss ratio,nozzle throat diameter,and the nozzle *** the machine learning model-accuracy with a 1-D iterative model,the machine learning model outperformed the 1-D iterative model with a lower mean average percentage error(MAPe)of 5.98 relative to 15.44 as obtained for the 1-D model.

Flow, thermal criticality and transition of a reactive third-grade fluid in a pipe with Reynolds' model viscosity

Neglecting the consumption of the material, a steady incompressible flow of an exothermic reacting third-grade fluid with viscous heating in a circular cylindrical pipe is numerically studied for both cases of constant viscosity and Reynolds＇ viscosity model. The coupled ordinary differential equations governing the flow in cylindrical coordinates, are transformed into dimensionless forms using appropriate transformations, and then solved numerically. Solutions using Maple are presented in tabular form and given in terms of dimensionless central fluid velocity and temperature, skin friction and heat transfer rate for three parametric values in the Reynolds＇ case. The numerical results for the velocity and temperature fields are also presented through graphs. Bifurcations are discussed using shooting method. Comparisons are also made between the present results and those of previous work, and thus verify the validity of the provided numerical solutions. Important properties of thermal criticality are provided for variable viscosity parameter and reaction order. Further numerical results are presented in the form of tables and graphs for transition of physical parameters, while varying certain flow and fluid material parameters. Also, the flow behaviour of the reactive fluid of third-grade is compared with those of the Newtonian reactive fluid.
