Sub-Saharan Africa is currently undergoing an epidemiological transition from a disease burden largely attributable to communicable diseases to that resulting from a combination of both communicable and chronic non-communicable *** on chronic disease incidence,lifestyle,environmental and genetic risk factors are sparse in this *** report aimed at providing relevant information in respect to risk factors that increase blood pressure and lead to development of intermediate cardiovascular *** presented the rationale,objectives and key methodological features of the nigerian Population Research on Environment,Gene and Health（nIPREGH） *** challenges encountered in carrying out population study in this part of the world and the approaches at surmounting them were also *** preliminary data as at 20 november 2013 showed that out of the 205 individuals invited starting from early April 2013,160（72 women） consented and were enrolled;giving a response rate of 78%.Participants＇ age ranged from 18 to 80 years,with a mean（SD） of 39.8（12.4） years and they were of 34 different ethnic groups spread over 24 states out of the 36 states that constitute *** mean（SD） of office and home blood pressures were 113.0（15.2） mm Hg systolic,73.5（12.5） mm Hg diastolic and 117.3（15.0） mm Hg systolic,and 76.0（9.6） mm Hg diastolic,***-three（26.8%） participants were hypertensive and 8（5.0%） were *** addition to having the unique potential of recruiting a cohort that is a true representative of the entire nigerian population,nIPREGH is feasible and the objectives realisable.

Drop Factor and Infusion Dose Calculation Discrepancies among nurses in Southern nigeria: A Cross-Sectional Study

nurses must deliver infusions as prescribed since too slow or fast a dose could be deleterious to patients. nurses experience challenges with infusion dose calculations, making them vulnerable to errors. The research team examined drop factor and infusion dose calculation discrepancies among nurses in southern nigeria. Five university teaching hospitals were involved in this cross-sectional study conducted in 2019. To establish the drop factor of commonly available macro drip sets, the team randomly sourced 25 macro drip sets from the hospitals’ pharmacies. A sample of 291 nurses was selected using a proportionate random sampling technique. The team collected data using the Adult Infusion Dose Calculation Quiz and analyzed it at a 5% significance level. Twenty (80%) of the sampled macro drip sets displayed a drop factor value of 20 drops per milliliter (gtt/ml) on their packaging. When measured experimentally, 25 (100%) of the macro drip sets delivered exactly 20 gtt/ml. Only 36 (12.4%) respondents calculated macro drip infusion doses using the correct drop factor of 20 gtt/ml. non-attendance of infusion administration training updates significantly increased the risk of error by 38% (p ≤ 0.001). In conclusion, the drop factor of macro drip sets used in southern nigeria is 20 gtt/ml;nurses were prone to infusing patients at a lower dose than prescribed. Special training in infusion therapy might remedy this concern.

Work-team has emerged as an important unit composi ng the organization today. The concepts relating to the properties of team-role t hat fit with today’s business environment have attracted much attention from the theorists and researchers. A team having a balanced composition of team-ro les is called a balanced team. Theoretically, a balanced team usually renders a better team performance. Therefore, to improve the performance of the team, mana gement needs to ensure that their work teams are composed of appropriate team me mbers with complementary skills, playing different roles, together forming a bal anced team. However, in certain situation, a balanced team can hardly be formed. For example , companies in Hong Kong are mostly the small-to-medium sized enterprises. The number of team-members is usually smaller than the required number for formula ting a balanced team. Also, as team members are required to travel often across borders, stable team can hardly be maintained. To resolve this problem, a different paradigm of team-role prevails here. Team -members autonomously supplant the roles of those missing members. We call this phenomenon the kinetic team role behavior. By using the methodology adopted from psychotherapy study, we propose a way to investigate this interesting and important characteristics of team-role.

The exploitation of groundwater by drilling in the Mitendi South-East district constitutes a solution to the water shortage in this peripheral part of the Mont-ngafula township in Kinshasa, the capital of the DR Congo. Individuals exploit groundwater in boreholes to serve the population without taking into account certain necessary aspects such as the origin of the groundwater table and the quality which constitute the major problems of this work such as: What is the quantity of water from the recharge of our aquifer? What is the state of the Mitendi South-East aquifer water in relation to some physico-chemical parameters? The cardinal objective of this work is to provide chemical data and trace elements in each analyzed borehole and determine the type of recharge of the underground aquifer. The specific objectives are as follows: analyze the potability of groundwater on a physico-chemical level and their chemical facies, take the geographical coordinates of water samples from the aquifer in each targeted borehole in order to develop the sampling map of the area under study;also check each parameter analyzed in relation to WHO standards. We carried out a general investigation of the study area by carrying out observations, sampling and in-situ measurements of each borehole, as well as the good conservation of the samples taken in a cooler. The various measurements that we took in-situ: pH, electrical conductivity, turbidity, salinity, temperature, and TDS were carried out by using a multi-parameter probe in the laboratory of appropriate methods such as titled-sorting, spectrophotometry, atomic absorption spectrometry, ArcGise and Excel software. With regard to the results from laboratory analysis (physical and chemical analysis), the parameters showed that the standards recommended by the WHO were not respected. Liver resections can be performed safely without Pringle maneuver: A prospective study

AIM To evaluate liver resections without Pringle maneuver, i.e., clamping of the portal triad. METHODS Between 9/2002 and 7/2013, 175 consecutive liver resections(n = 101 major anatomical and n = 74 large atypical > 5 cm) without Pringle maneuver were performed in 127 patients(143 surgeries). Accompanying, 37 wedge resections(specimens nd 43 radiofrequency ablations were performed. Preoperative volumetric calculation of the liver remnant preceeded all anatomical resections. The liver parenchyma was dissected by waterjet. The median central venous pressure was 4 mmH g(range: 5-14). Data was collected prospectively. RESULTS The median age of patients was 60 years(range: 16-85). Preoperative chemotherapy was used in 70 cases(49.0%). Liver cirrhosis was present in 6.3%, and liver steatosis of ≥ 10% in 28.0%. Blood loss was median 400 mL(range 50-5000 mL). Perioperative blood transfusions were given in 22/143 procedures(15%). The median weight of anatomically resected liver specimens was 525 g(range: 51-1850 g). One patient died postoperatively. Biliary leakages(n = 5) were treated conservatively. Temporary liver failure occurred in two *** Major liver resections without Pringle maneuver are feasible and safe. The avoidance of liver inflow clamping might reduce liver damage and failure, and shorten the hospital stay.

Prospective study of Centurion~？ versus Infiniti~？ phacoemulsification systems： surgical and visual outcomes

AIM： To evaluate surgical outcomes（SOs） and visual outcomes（VOs） in cataract surgery comparing the Centurion？ phacoemulsification system（CPS） with the Infiniti？ phacoemulsification system（IPS）.METHODS： Prospective, consecutive study in a singlesite private practice. Totally 412 patients undergoing cataract surgery with either the CPS using the 30-degree balanced？ tip（n=207） or the IPS using the 30-degree Kelman？ tip（n=205）. Intraoperative and postoperative outcomes were documented prospectively up to one month follow-up. nuclear sclerosis（nS） grade, cumulated dissipated energy（CDE）, preoperative corrected distance visual acuity（CDVA）, and CDVA at one month were recorded. RESULTS： CDE was 13.50% less in the whole CPS compared with the whole IPS subcohort. In eyes with nS grade III or greater, CDE was 28.87% less with CPS（n=70） compared with IPS（n=44）（P=0.010）. Surgical complications were not statistically different between the two subcohorts（P=0.083）, but in the one case of vitreous loss using the CPS, CDVA of 6/4 was achieved at one month. The mean CDVAs（VOs） at one month for nS grade III and above cataracts were-0.17 log MAR（6/4.5） in the CPS and-0.15 log MAR（6/4.5） in the IPS subcohort respectively（P=0.033）.COnCLUSIOn： CDE is 28.87% less, and VOs are significantly improved, in denser cataracts in the CPS compared with the IPS. The authors recommend the CPS for cases with denser nuclei.

Dear Editor, Self-incompatibility （SI） is a genetic mechanism through which flowering plants prevent self-pollination to ensure out- crossing and genetic diversity. In Brassica sp., this mechanism is controlled by the self-incompatibility （S） locus, in which, the stigmatic ＇S-locus receptor kinase （SRK）＇ recognizes the ＇S-locus cysteine rich protein （SCR）＇ from the self-pollen to elicit an active rejection response. This results in blocking of compatibil- ity factors from being delivered to the site of pollen attachment leading to self-pollen rejection （Chapman and Goring, 2010）. In contrast, following recognition of compatible signals from the cross-pollen or compatible pollen （CP）, the stigma releases its resources such as water and nutrients to the dry pollen so that the pollen tube can germinate and penetrate the stigmatic cuticle leading to successful fertilization. Thus, an incompatible or self-pollen is fully capable of eliciting a compatible response, but is actively rejected before compatible responses can occur.

Development of a Test Rig for Axial Strains Measurement in Automobile Wheel

In automobile wheel application, a test rig is vital and used to simulate conditions of the wheel in service in order to affirm the safety and reliability of the wheel. The present work designed a test rig for measuring axial strains in automobile wheel. The wheel used was a five-arm wheel (6JX14H2;ET 42) and Tyre (175 × 65 R 14). Experimental (EXP) test was carried out, with a radial load of 4750 n and inflation pressure of 0.3 MPa, to measure the axil strains which were converted to maximum principal strain values and, compared with data from Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using Creo-Element/Pro 5.0 at wheel’s contact angles of 90 degree (FEA 90 deg), 40 degree (FEA 40 deg) and 30.25 degree (FEA 30.25 deg), respectively. Results show that at the wheel’s point of contact with the ground, maximum principal strain values were highest at the inboard bead seat with a value of about 5.69 × 10-4 mm/mm, followed by the values at the well of about 5.66 × 10-4 mm/mm. The value at the outboard bead seat was least at about 2.22 × 10-4 mm/mm, which was due to the presence of spikes at this location that tends to resist imposed radial loads. However, the highest mean maximum principal strain values at the locations of inboard, well and outboard, were about 2.11 × 10-4 mm/mm, 3.78 × 10-4 mm/mm and .99 × 10-4 mm/mm, respectively. With the highest single value of about 5.69 × 10-4 mm/mm, the inboard bead seat was the most strained location of the wheel. Overall results showed that all values of maximum principal strains were below the threshold value of about 1 × 10-2 mm/mm. The values obtained for EXP and FEA could be said to be in close agreement when compared with the threshold value. With this in mind, the rig is recommended for use in related experimental procedures.
