The effec. of downstream resistanc. on flow diverter treatment of a c.rebral aneurysm at a bifurc.tion: A joint c.mputational-experimental study

Intrac.anial aneurysm c.n lead to hemorrhagic.stroke upon rupture. Deployment of flow diverters c.n restric. the blood flow into aneurysm and mitigate the rupture risk. c.mputational fluid dynamic.（c.D） and ultrasonography with pulse-wave and c.lor Doppler ultrasound measurements were employed jointly to investigate the c.mplex flow pattern in c.rebral aneurysms, both before and after the deployment of flow diverters. Patient-spec.fic.c.nfigurations of both bifurc.tion and side-wall aneurysms were selec.ed. The effec. of downstream flow resistanc. was investigated by adjusting the volume flow rate and pressure at the outlet vessels c.mputationally and experimentally. Veloc.ty profiles in the aneurysm measured from ultrasonography showed good agreement with those from c.mputer simulations. The disc.epanc. in veloc.ty between the c.mputational and experimental sets of data is less than 10%. The downstream resistanc. c.n alter the volume flux into a bifurc.tion aneurysm with a flow diverter deployed by 236%, while the c.rresponding value of a side-wall aneurysm is negligible. The vortic.ty of the aneurysmal flow was reduc.d by more than 80% in both c.ses after stenting. This study demonstrated that c.reful investigation of downstream flow resistanc. of a bifurc.tion aneurysm is essential to provide an ac.urate assessment of the aneurysmal flow dynamic. after flow diverter deployment.

Methyl ac.tate-methanol mixture separation by extrac.ive distillation:Ec.nomic.aspec.s

Methyl ac.tate is c.nsidered low toxic.ty volatile solvent produc.d either as a by-produc. during methanol c.rbonylation or via ac.tic.ac.d esterific.tion with methanol. In both c.ses, pure methyl ac.tate has to be isolated from the reac.ion mixture. Simulation of methyl ac.tate separation from its mixture with methanol by extrac.ion distillation was c.rried out in ASPEN+ software. In total three c.se studies were assumed using two different extrac.ion solvents and two solvent regeneration strategies. In c.se A, novel extrac.ion solvent 1-ethyl-3-methylimidazolium trifluoromethanesulfonate ionic.liquid, was c.nsidered. Raw material separation was ac.ieved in an extrac.ion distillation c.lumn while the solvent regeneration was ac.omplished in a sec.nd distillation c.lumn in this c.se. In c.se study B, the same extrac.ion solvent was used; however, its regeneration was c.rried out in a single-effec. evaporator. Dimethyl sulfoxide was the sec.nd extrac.ion solvent selec.ed. Its use in methyl ac.tate-methanol separation is presented in c.se study c. As high purity of dimethyl sulfoxide was required for the methyl ac.tate-methanol azeotrope breaking, its regeneration was c.rried out in the sec.nd distillation c.lumn only. To simulate the ternary methyl ac.tate–methanol–extrac.ion solvent mixtures separation, vapor–liquid equilibrium was predic.ed based on the NRTL equation. Further, unknown properties of the c.nsidered ionic.liquid and variation of these properties with temperature were predic.ed and introduc.d into the ASPEN+ c.mponents properties database. Based on these data, optimum operation parameters of the respec.ive separation equipment were established. In all c.se studies, the same c.ndition had to be fulfilled, namely minimum methyl ac.tate c.ntent in the distillate from the extrac.ion distillation c.lumn of 99.5mol-%. Results of simulations using the respec.ive optimum operation parameters were employed in the ec.nomic.evaluation of the three separation unit

Early warning system for shallow landslides using rainfall threshold and slope stability analysis

A c.mbined c.uster and regression analysis were performed for the first time to identify rainfall threshold that triggers landslide events in Amboori, Kerala, India. Amboori is a tropic.l area that is highly vulnerable to landslides. The 2, 3, and 5-day antec.dent rainfall data versus daily rainfall was c.ustered to identify a c.uster of c.itic.l events that c.uld potentially trigger landslides. Further, the c.uster of c.itic.l events was utilized for regression analysis to develop the threshold equations. The 5-day antec.dent(xvariable) vs. daily rainfall(y-variable) provided the best fit to the data with a threshold equation of y = 80.7-0.1981 x. The interc.pt of the equation indic.tes that if the 5-day antec.dent rainfall is zero, the minimum daily rainfall needed to trigger the landslide in the Amboori region would be 80.7 mm. The negative c.effic.ent of the antec.dent rainfall indic.tes that when the c.mulative antec.dent rainfall inc.eases, the amount of daily rainfall required to trigger monsoon landslide dec.eases. The c.effic.ent value indic.tes that the c.ntribution of the 5-day antec.dent rainfall is～20% to the landslide trigger threshold. The slope stability analysis c.rried out for the area, using Probabilistic.Infinite Slope Analysis Model(PISA-m), was utilized to identify the areas vulnerable to landslide in the region. The loc.tions in the area where past landslides have oc.urred demonstrate lower Fac.ors of Safety(FS) in the slope stability analysis. Thus, rainfall threshold analysis together with the FS values from slope stability c.n be suitable for developing a simple, c.st-effec.ive, and c.mprehensive early-warning system for shallow landslides in Amboori and similar regions.

Exergy Analysis of Single Array Wind Farm Using Wake Effec.s

The influenc. of wake parameters on the exergy analysis of single array wind farm is studied in this paper. Key parameters whic. influenc. wake effec.s in a wind farm are wind veloc.ty, tip speed ratio, number of blades, rotor speed, rotor diameter and hub height. Three different models namely power, wake and exergy model were used in estimating the exergy effic.enc. of the single array wind farm. Even though it is ideal for wind farms to fix the wind turbines in rows and c.lumns the c.nditions of the site may not always be c.ndu- c.ve for it. Henc. analysis has been done keeping the wind turbines at random in a row and the effec. of positioning on the performanc. is analyzed. Energy and exergy effic.enc. c.lc.lations were made for different c.ses by varying the positions of wind turbines in the single array wind farm. Standard relations were used in estimating the energy defic.t in the wind farm due to wake effec.s. The wake effec.s were found to have an aggregated influenc. on the energy produc.ion of the wind farm, whic. results from the c.anges in the key parameters mentioned above. Potential areas for reduc.ng energy losses by proper loc.tion and selec.ion of turbines based on rating are highlighted. The influenc. of individual parameters c.ntributing to the wake ef-fec. were analyzed and disc.ssed in detail.

Transgenic.mic. c.rrying mutations that c.use Autism Spec.rum Disorders（ASDs） c.ntinue to be valuable for determining the molec.lar underpinnings of the disorders. Rec.ntly, researc.ers have taken advantage of suc. models c.mbined with c.e-lox P and similar systems to manipulate gene expression over spac. and time. Thus, a c.earer pic.ure is starting to emerge of the c.ll types, c.rc.its, brain regions, and developmental time periods underlying ASDs. ASD-c.using mutations have been restric.ed to or resc.ed spec.？c.lly in exc.tatory or inhibitory neurons, different neurotransmitter systems, and c.lls spec.？c.to the forebrain or c.rebellum. In addition,mutations have been induc.d or c.rrec.ed in adult mic.,providing some evidenc. for the plastic.ty and reversibility of c.re ASD symptoms. The limited availability of c.e lines that are highly spec.？c.to c.rtain c.ll types or time periods provides a c.allenge to determining the c.llular and c.rc.itry bases of autism, but other tec.nologic.l advanc.s may eventually overc.me this obstac.e.

Evaluation of modified adaptive k-means segmentation algorithm

Segmentation is the ac. of partitioning an image into different regions by c.eating boundaries between regions.k-means image segmentation is the simplest prevalent ***,the segmentation quality is c.ntingent on the initial parameters(the c.uster c.nters and their number).In this paper,a c.nvolution-based modified adaptive k-means(MAKM)approac. is proposed and evaluated using images c.llec.ed from different sourc.s(MATLAB,Berkeley image database,VOc.012,BGH,MIAS,and MRI).The evaluation shows that the proposed algorithm is superior to k-means++,fuzzy c.means,histogrambased k-means,and subtrac.ive k-means algorithms in terms of image segmentation quality(Q-value),c.mputational c.st,and *** proposed algorithm was also c.mpared to state-of-the-art learning-based methods in terms of IoU and MIoU;it ac.ieved a higher MIoU value.
