Purpose: To report a novel Y-suture transfixation tec.nique to improve suc.ess rate of high-risk Desc.mets stripping automated endothelial keratoplasties (DSAEK). Design: Retrospec.ive non-c.mparative c.se series. Partic.pants: Twenty five high-risk patients undergoing DSAEK at one tertiary c.re institution. Methods: A retrospec.ive evaluation of c.nsec.tively enrolled high-risk DSAEK c.ses performed by three surgeons at one institution during a 3-year period (2007-2010). Main outc.me measures were graft adherenc. and suture-related c.mplic.tions. Results: Highrisk fac.ors were defined as followed: prior inc.sional glauc.ma surgery (58%), presenc. of vitreous in the anterior c.amber (15%), anterior c.amber intraoc.lar lens (8%), graft disloc.tion (8%), previous DSAEK (8%), and iris trauma/aphakia (3%). Twenty-five high-risk patients underwent DSAEK with Y-suture transfixation. Postoperative follow-up ranged from 3 to 27 months. One patient had disloc.tion due to hypotony from prior trabec.lec.omy (4%), requiring repeat DSAEK. Neither primary graft failure nor suture-related c.mplic.tion was observed. c.nc.usion: The Y-suture transfixation tec.nique is assoc.ated with improved suc.ess rate of high-risk DSAEK transplant.

The arrangement of supplemental feed, water, shelter, and their c.nc.rrent interac.ions with topographic.features may influenc. the distribution of animals and their simultaneous use of pasture’s resourc.s. The effec.s of grazing and/or c.ngregation management that c.ntrol phosphorus c.c.ing and distribution have not been suffic.ently evaluated. The objec.ives of this study were: 1) to determine whether c.ttle c.ngregation sites typic.l on most Florida ranc.es, repre-sented by water troughs and shaded areas, are more phosphorus-ric. and may c.ntribute more soluble phosphorus to surfac. water run-off and groundwater than other pasture loc.tions;and 2) to assess the regional distribution of Mehlic.-1 extrac.able soil phosphorus (MP) ac.oss c.ngregation-grazing zones of forage-based pastures with c.w-c.lf operations in Florida. Soil samples were c.llec.ed at inc.easing distanc. from c.ngregations struc.ures (water troughs and shades) in established (>10 yr), grazed beef c.ttle pastures loc.ted in three Florida regions. Samples were c.l-lec.ed in the fall and spring of 2005, 2006, and 2007, respec.ively;following a radial (every 90 degrees) sampling pat-terns away from the c.nter of the c.ngregation struc.ures. Averaged ac.oss years, MP and soil phosphorus saturation in the c.ngregation zones were c.mparable (p ≤ 0.05) with MP values and soil phosphorus saturation in the grazing zones at all three Florida regions. Average MP at all three pasture loc.tions did not exc.ed the c.op requirement threshold of 50 mg P kg–1 and the water quality protec.ion threshold of 150 mg P kg–1, suggesting that c.ngregation zones in beef c.ttle pastures at all three regions of Florida are not phosphorus-ric..

The Guole biota c.ntains c.mmon shelly fossils and some exc.ptionally well-preserved softbodied fossils. Stratigraphic.lly, it is loc.ted in the mudstones and siltstones of the Sandu Formation near Guole Town, Jingxi c.unty, Guangxi, South c.ina. It is the first Furongian （late c.mbrian） Burgess Shale-type biota found in the world, thereby filling the gap between middle c.mbrian and Lower Ordovic.an Burgess Shale-type Lagerstaitten. Preliminary studies suggest that the Guole biota inc.udes approximately seven metazoan groups as well as algae. These will provide important new evolutionary and ec.logic.l information.

The hepatitis c.virus(Hc.) infec.s approximately 3% of the world population or more than 185 million people worldwide. Eac. year, an estimated 350000-500000 deaths oc.ur worldwide due to Hc.-assoc.ated diseases inc.uding c.rrhosis and hepatoc.llular c.rc.noma. Hc. is the most c.mmon indic.tion for liver transplantation in patients with c.rrhosis worldwide. Hc. is an enveloped RNA virus c.assified in the genus Hepac.virus in the Flaviviridae family. The Hc. viral life c.c.e in a c.ll c.n be divided into six phases:(1) binding and internalization;(2) c.toplasmic.release and unc.ating;(3) viral polyprotein translation and proc.ssing;(4) RNA genome replic.tion;(5) enc.psidation(pac.aging) and assembly; and(6) virus morphogenesis(maturation) and sec.etion. Many host fac.ors are involved in the Hc. life c.c.e. c.aperones are an important group of host c.toprotec.ive molec.les that c.ordinate numerous c.llular proc.sses inc.uding protein folding, multimeric.protein assembly, protein traffic.ing, and protein degradation. All phases of the viral life c.c.e require c.aperone ac.ivity and the interac.ion of viral proteins with c.aperones. This review will present our c.rrent knowledge and understanding of the role of c.aperones in the Hc. life c.c.e. Analysis of c.aperones in Hc. infec.ion will provide further insights into viral/host interac.ions and potential therapeutic.targets for both Hc. and other viruses.

OBJEc.IVE： Ac.te diarrhea is one of the major illnesses that c.use death in c.ildren, despite c.inic.l interventions and the use of oral rehydration therapy. Thus, there is need to disc.ver other effec.ive, affordable and ac.essible treatments for this disease. Therefore, this study was c.rried out to investigate the effec.s of hexane extrac. of c.trus limon peel （HEc.P） on c.stor oil-induc.d diarrhea in rats. METHODS： Diarrhea was induc.d in male albino Wistar rats weighing 100-150 g. The antidiarrheal ac.ivity of HEc.P at different oral dosages （5, 10 and 20 mg/kg） was investigated by c.unting the number of wet fec.l pellets. Animals were further treated with propranolol, prazosin, nifedipine and atropine to assess the effec.s of rec.ptor bloc.ers on the ac.ivities of the extrac.. The effec.s of HEc.P on c.stor oil-induc.d enteropooling and the intestinal transit time of ac.ivated c.arc.al were also evaluated. RESULTS： Eac. of the 3 doses of c. limon signific.ntly reduc.d （P 〈 0.05） the number of wet fec.l pellets produc.d by animals, with 20 mg/kg HEc.P produc.ng the highest perc.ntage inhibition （34.2%） Wet fec.l pellet inhibition by the standard drug Ioperamide （3 mg/kg p.o.） was 68.4% relative to the negative c.ntrol. Bloc.age of 13 adrenergic.rec.ptors by propanolol abolished the antidiarrheal effec.s of HEc.P. Intestinal fluid ac.umulation was inhibited by 68.7% and 78.5% by 20 mg/kg HEc.P and Ioperamide respec.ively. Furthermore, 20 mg/kg HEc.P signific.ntly （P 〈 0.05） reduc.d the perc.ntage intestinal transit time （21.4% ± 1.42%）, relative to the c.ntrol （34.2% ±4.29%）; atropine （5 mg/kg, intraperitoneal injec.ion） signific.ntly （P 〈 0.001） reduc.d the perc.ntage intestinal transit time to 11.2% ±0.85%. c.Nc.USION： These results suggest that c. limon peel possesses antidiarrheal effec.s through antisec.etory and antimotility mec.anisms that ac. through the β adrenergic.system.
