Antibacterial activity of four Gracilaria species of red seaweeds collected from Mandapam Coast,Gulf of Mannar Marine Biosphere Reserve,India

Objective:To study the antibacterial activities of diethyl ether,toluene,ethanol and methanol extracts of red seaweeds such as Gracilaria crassa(***),Gracilaria folifera(***),Gracilaria debilis(***)and Gracilaria ***:The crude extracts were tested against different types of Gram-positive and-negative bacterial strains and all the seaweed extracts were tested a broad spectrum of antibacterial *** activity was made using paper disc diffusion *** organic solvents(diethyl ether,toluene,methanol and ethanol)were used separately in a Soxhlet apparatus for seven bacterial *** activity of the known antibiotics such as chloramphenicol,streptomycin,kanamycin and ampicillin was determined by testing them against different test ***:The high antibacterial activity was noted in the extracts of ***,*** and ***,*** and *** have good antibacterial *** like Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli were less susceptible to the methanol and diethyl ether extracts of *** comparative study on the antibacterial activity was also made by using 200μg concentration of solvent extracts(diethyl ether,ethanol,toluene and methanol)and different five antibiotics such as chloramphenicol,streptomycin,kanamycin,amoxicillin and *** bacterial strains tested were more sensitive to chloramphenicol,streptomycin,kanamycin,and ampicillin when compared to algal ***:The present study proved that the extracts of ***,*** and *** have high antibacterial *** *** and *** showed good antibacterial activity,many known antibiotics are active against a few organisms ***,the extracts of seaweeds were active against all test organisms used and the activities were comparable to that of antibiotics and the seaweeds offer a feasible alternative for the development of new *** r

Emergency Gesture Communication by Patients, Elderly and Differently Abled with Care Takers Using Wearable Data Gloves

The Healthcare monitoring on a clinical base involves many implicit communication between the patient and the care takers. Any misinterpretation leads to adverse effects. A simple wearable system can precisely interpret the implicit communication to the care takers or to an automated support device. Simple and obvious hand movements can be used for the above purpose. The proposed system suggests a novel methodology simpler than the existing sign language interpretations for such implicit communication. The experimental results show a well-distinguished realization of different hand movement activities using a wearable sensor medium and the interpretation results always show significant thresholds.

Eliminating Forgers Based on Intra Trial Variability in Online Signature Verification Using Handglove and Photometric Signals

The novel reinforcement to the data glove based dynamic signature verification system, using the Photometric measurement values collected simultaneously from photo plethysmography (PPG) during the signing process is the emerging technology. Skilled forgers try to attempt the genuine signatures in many numbers of trials. The wide gap in the Euclidian distances between forgers and the genuine template features prohibits them from successful forging. This has been proved by our repeated experiments on various subjects using the above combinational features. In addition the intra trial features captured during the forge attempts also differs widely in the case of forgers and are not consistent that of a genuine signature. This is caused by the pulse characteristics and degree of bilateral hand dimensional similarity, and the degrees of pulse delay. Since this economical and simple optical-based technology is offering an improved biometric security, it is essential to look for other reinforcements such the variability factor considerations which we proved of worth considering.

The Aquatic Quarantine Facility （AQF） for Litopenaeus vannamei established under the Department of Animal Husbandry, Dairying and Fisheries, Ministry of Agriculture is located on the eastern coastal region of Chennai in Tamil Nadu, India. The facility is an approved quarantine premise for the SPF vannamei broodstock imported across India and is probably the only one of its kind to be established in Southeast Asia. The centre is managed and operated by Rajiv Gandhi Centre for Aquaculture （RGCA）, a technical extension of the Marine Products Export Development Authority （MPEDA）, Ministry of Commerce ＆ Industry, Government of India. The quarantine facility functions on the basis of strict biosecurity protocol and as per the guidelines stipulated in Standard Operating Procedures （SOP） framed by a team of experts. The facility ensures specific pathogen free status of the SPF L. vannamei broodstock imported to India, thus playing key role in restricting the entry of diseases to the Country. This article presents the SPF certification process of the imported L. vannamei carried out at the facility.
