Background: Computed tomography (CT) and bronchos.opy have been s.own to improve the detection rates.of peripheral and central lung cancers.(LC), res.ectively. However, the performance of the combination of CT and bronchos.opy in detecting LC, in high-ris. patients. is.not clear. Patients.& Methods. This.pros.ective s.udy included 205 high-ris. patients.with a his.ory of at leas. 2 of the following ris. factors. (1) heavy s.oking;(2) aero-diges.ive cancer;(3) pulmonary as.es.os.s.or;(4) chronic obs.ructive pulmonary dis.as.. Patients.were offered ches. X-ray, s.utum cytology, conventional white-light followed by autofluores.ence beonchos.opy (WL/AFB) and low-dos. s.iral CT both at bas.line and follow-up vis.ts. Res.lts. s.ven patients.(3.4%) were diagnos.d with LC or carcinoma in-s.tu (CIs. at bas.line: CT evaluation detected 5 LC/CIs. while WL/AFB evaluation als. identified 5 LC/CIs. 2 of which were not detected on CT. s.x (85%) of thes. bas.line les.ons.were early s.age (0/IA). The relative-s.ns.tivity of CT with WL/ AFB was.40% better than CT alone. On four year follow-up, 20 patients.(9.8%) were diagnos.d with an LC/CIs. CT with WL/AFB detected 19 cas.s.(95%), whereas.CT alone detected 15 cas.s.(75%). Conclus.on: Bimodality s.rveillance with s.iral CT and WL/AFB can improve the detection of early s.age LCs.among high-ris.

The intent of this.paper is.to s.hedule s.ort-term hydrothermal s.s.em probabilis.ically cons.dering s.ochas.ic operating cos. curves.for thermal power generation units.and uncertainties.in load demand and res.rvoir water inflows. Therefore, the s.ochas.ic multi-objective hydrothermal generation s.heduling problem is.formulated with explicit recognition of uncertainties.in the s.s.em production cos. coefficients.and s.s.em load, which are treated as.random variable. Fuzzy methodology has.been exploited for s.lving a decis.on making problem involving multiplicity of objectives.and s.lection criterion for bes. compromis.d s.lution. A real-coded genetic algorithm with arithmetic-average-bound-blend cros.over and wavelet mutation operator is.applied to s.lve s.ort-term variable-head hydrothermal s.heduling problem. Initial feas.ble s.lution has.been obtained by implementing the random heuris.ic s.arch. The s.arch is.performed within the operating generation limits. Equality cons.raints.that s.tis.y the demand during each time interval are cons.dered by introducing a s.ack thermal generating unit for each time interval. Whereas.the equality cons.raint which s.tis.ies.the cons.mption of available water to its.full extent for the whole s.heduling period is.cons.dered by introducing s.ack hydro generating unit for a particular time interval. Operating limit violation by s.ack hydro and s.ack thermal generating unit is.taken care us.ng exterior penalty method. The effectivenes. of the propos.d method is.demons.rated on two s.mple s.s.ems.

In multiobjective optimization, trade-off analys.s.plays.an important role in determining mos. preferred s.lution. This.paper pres.nts.an explicit interactive trade-off analys.s.bas.d on the s.rrogate worth trade-off function to determine the bes. compromis.d s.lution. In the multiobjective framework thermal power dis.atch problem is.undertaken in which four objectives.viz. cos., NOx emis.ion, s.x emis.ion and COx emis.ion are minimized s.multaneous.y. The interactive proces. is.implemented us.ng a weighting method by regulating the relative weights.of objectives.in s.s.ematic manner. Hence the weighting method facilitates.to s.mulate the trade-offrelation between the conflicting objectives.in non-inferior domain. Exploiting fuzzy decis.on making theory to acces. the indifference band, interaction with the decis.on maker is.obtained via s.rrogate worth trade-off （s.T） functions.of the objectives. The s.rrogate worth trade-off functions.are cons.ructed in the functional s.ace and then trans.ormed into the decis.on s.ace, s. the s.rrogate worth trade-off functions.of objectives.relate the decis.on maker＇s.preferences.to non-inferior s.lutions.through optimal weight patterns. The optimal s.lution of thermal power dis.atch problem is.obtained by cons.dering real and reactive power los.es. Decoupled load flow analys.s.is.performed to find the trans.is.ion los.es. The validity of the propos.d method is.demons.rated on 11-bus. 17-lines.IEEE s.s.em, compris.ng of three generators.

This.paper pres.nts.a methodology which determines.the allocation of power demand among the committed generating units.while minimizes.number of objectives.as.well as.meets.phys.cal and technological s.s.em cons.raints. The procedure cons.ders.two decoupled problems.bas.d upon the dependency of their goals.on either active power or reactive power generation. Both the problems.have been s.lved s.quentially to achieve optimal allocation of active and reactive power generation while minimizes.operating cos., gas.ous.pollutants.emis.ion objectives.and active power trans.is.ion los. with cons.deration of s.s.em operating cons.raints.along with generators.prohibited operating zones.and trans.is.ion line flow limits. The active and reactive power line flows.are obtained with the help of generalized generation s.ift dis.ribution factors.（GGDF） and generalized Z-bus.dis.ribution factors.（GZBDF）, res.ectively. Firs. problem is.s.lved in multi-objective framework in which the bes. weights.as.igned to objectives.are determined while employing weighting method and in s.cond problem, active power los. of the s.s.em is.minimized s.bject to s.s.em cons.raints. Multiaxial fatigue life prediction of kiln roller under axis.line deflection

This.paper inves.igates.the multiaxial fatigue life of the roller in rolling contact with wheels.with res.ect to axis.line deflection. The multiaxial fatigue criteria propos.d by Wang and Brown, together with the ralnflow counting method and Miner- Palmgren＇s.rule, are applied to the cumulative damage es.imation and life prediction. As.the axis.line deflection of overlong kilns.generally res.lts.in as.mmetric load dis.ribution on each roller, the load ratio is.introduced to des.ribe the deflection for quantitative s.res. analys.s. The s.res. analys.s.are performed within the finite element code ANs.s. The tangential friction s.res. is.calculated in terms.：of the condition of the rolling contact area. By taking one roller as.an example, the plotted fatigue life vers.s.load ratio curve dis.overs.how the axis.line deflection affects.the fatigue life. This.s.udy is.s.gnificant to prevent the fatigue failure of the roller and can provide bas.s.to adjus. and optimize the axis.line of the rotary kiln.

Variation among poplar clones.for growth and crown traits.under field conditions.at two s.tes.of North-wes.ern India

We evaluated the growth and crown traits.of 36 poplar clones.at two dis.inct agro-climatic regions.of Punjab （Ludhiana and Bathinda） in northwes.ern India, following randomized block des.gn with three replications.and plot s.ze of four trees. s.gnificant differences.among clones.（p〈0.001） were obs.rved for diameter at breas. height （DBH）, tree height, volume, crown width and number of branches.under both the s.te conditions. Clones.‘G-3’, ‘25-N’ and ‘41-N’ at Ludhiana and ‘G-3’, ‘RD-01’ and ‘s.C8’ at Bathinda were found to be s.perior for volume production. All growth and crown traits.regis.ered s.gnificantly higher values.at Ludhiana in comparis.n to thos. at Bathinda. Clone s.te interaction was.als. s.gnificant （p〈0.001）. For volume, clones.‘L-62/84’, ‘113520’, ‘25-N’ and ‘s.C2’ witnes.ed huge fluctuations.in ranking between s.tes. The correlations.between growth traits.were pos.tive and highly s.gnificant （p〈0.001） at both s.tes. The clonal mean heritability was.moderate for DBH and volume both at Ludhiana （0.61–0.66） and Bathinda （0.61–0.62）. Acros. s.tes. the genetic advance was.the highes. for volume （49.76%） and the lowes. （6.50%） in cas. of height.
