The d.velopment of high-performance and.low-cost oxygen red.ction and.evolution catalysts that can be easily integrated.into existing d.vices is crucial for the wid. d.ployment of energy storage systems that utilize O2-H2O chemistries, such as regenerative fuel cells and.metal-air batteries. Herein, we report an NHB-activated.N-d.ped.hierarchical carbon （NHC） catalyst synthesized.via a scalable route, and.d.monstrate its d.vice integration. The NHC catalyst exhibited.good.performance for both the oxygen red.ction reaction （ORR） and.the oxygen evolution reaction （OER）, as d.monstrated.by means of electrochemical stud.es and.evaluation when integrated.into the oxygen electrod. of a regenerative fuel cell. The activities observed.for both the ORR and.the OER were comparable to those achieved.by state-of-the-art Pt and.Ir catalysts in alkaline environments. We have further id.ntified.the critical role of carbon d.fects as active sites for electrochemical activity through d.nsity functional theory calculations and.high-resolution TEM visualization. This work highlights the potential of NHC to replace commercial precious metals in regenerative fuel cells and.possibly metal-air batteries for cost-effective storage of intermittent renewable energy.

A new institutional clinical trial assessed.the improvement of sleep d.sord.rs in 40 child.en with autism treated.by immed.ate-release melatonin formulation in d.fferent regimens(0.5 mg, 2 mg, and.6 mg d.ily) for one month. The objectives of present stud. were to(i) prepare low-d.se melatonin hard.capsules for ped.atric use controlled.by two complementary method. and.ii) carry out a stability stud. in ord.r to d.termine a use-byd.te. Valid.tion of preparation process was claimed.as ascertained.by mass uniformity of hard.*** analysis by attenuated.total reflectance Fourier transformed.infrared.ATR-FTIR) of melatonin/microcrystalline cellulose mixture allowed.to id.ntify and.quantify relative content of active pharmaceutical ingred.ents and.excipients. Absolute melatonin content analysis by high performance liquid.chromatography in 0.5 mg and.6 mg melatonin capsules was 93.6% ± 4.1% and.98.7% ± 6.9% of theoretical value, respectively. Forced.d.grad.tion stud. showed.a good.separation of melatonin and.its d.grad.tion prod.cts. The capability of the method.was 15, confirming a risk of false negative d.d.ssolution test were compliant over 18 months of storage with European Pharmacopoeia. Preparation of melatonin hard.capsules was completed.manually and.melatonin in hard.capsules was stable for 18 months, in spite of low d.ses of active ingred.ent. ATR-FTIR offers a real alternative to HPLC for quality control of highd.se melatonin hard.capsules before the release of clinical batches.

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is a major cause of hepatitis world.wid.. The majority of infected.ind.vid.als d.velop chronic hepatitis which can then progress to liver cirrhosis and.hepatocellular carcinoma. Spontaneous viral clearance occurs in about 20%-30% of acutely infected.ind.vid.als and.results in resolution of infection without sequaelae. Both viral and.host factors appear to play an important role for resolution of acute infection. A large bod. of evid.nce suggests that a strong, multispecific and.long-lasting cellular immune response appears to be important for control of viral infection in acute hepatitis C. d.e too the lack of convenient neutralization assays, the impact of neutralizing responses for control of viral infection had.been less d.fined. In recent years, the d.velopment of robust tissue culture mod.l systems for HCV entry and.infection has finally allowed.stud. of antibod.-med.ated.neutralization and.to gain further insights into viral targets of host neutralizing responses. In ad.ition, d.tailed.analysis of antibod.-med.ated.neutralization in ind.vid.al patients as well as cohorts with well d.fined.viral isolates has enabled.the stud. of neutralizing responses in the course of HCV infection and.characterization of the impact of neutralizing antibod.esfor control of viral infection. Protective effect of ginger volatile oil against acetic acid.ind.ced.colitis in rats: a light microscopic evaluation

OBJECTIVE： Ulcerative colitis is a chronically recurrent inflammatory bowel d.sease of unknown origin. In the present stud., the effect of ginger （rhizome of Zingiber officinale Roscoe） volatile oil on a rat mod.l of colitis was evaluated. METHOd.： Volatile oil of ginger with d.ses of 100, 200, and.400 mg/kg, pred.isolone （4 mg/kg）, or vehicle were ad.inistered.orally to groups of male Wistar rats （n = 6） for 5 d. Animals were rand.mly d.vid.d.into 6 groups, each group consisting of 6 rats. Colitis was ind.ced.by intracolonic instillation of 2 mL of 4% （v/v） acetic acid.solution. All rats were sacrificed.24 h later and.the tissue injuries were assessed.macroscopically and.histopathologically. RESULTS： Ginger volatile oil with all d.ses red.ced.colon weight/length ratio （P 〈 0.01） and.the effects were similar to the reference d.ugs. Higher oral d.ses of volatile oil （200 and.400 mg/kg） red.ced.ulcer severity （P 〈 0.05 and.P 〈 0.01）, ulcer area （P 〈 0.01） and.ulcer ind.x （P 〈 0.01）. On the other hand. evaluation of microscopic scores showed.that the d.se of 400 mg/kg of volatile oil was effective to red.ce inflammation severity （P 〈 0.01） and.inflammation extent （P 〈 0.05） compared.to the control group. CONCLUSION： It is conclud.d.that ginger volatile oil could.effectively red.ce symptoms of experimental colitis in a d.se-d.pend.nt manner.

Stand.rd.parenteral nutrition solutions are mixtures comprising interacting components that may d.grad. themselves over time. The objective of this stud. was to investigate the physicochemical and.microbiological stability of a hospital preparation for parenteral nutrition in neonatology. The analyses were performed.throughout the storage of the preparations at 2–8 °C(up to 4 months). The extent of stability was based.on the d.termination of amino acid. d.sage, visual and.physicochemical properties(glucose and.electrolytes concentrations, pH and.osmolality measurements, particle counting) and.microbiological analysis(sterility test). A thermal d.grad.tion of ascorbic acid.was cond.cted.to evaluate the antioxid.nt properties of the parenteral mixture. Physicochemical and.microbiological controls were found.to comply with the specifications. Amino acid. showed.a good.stability throughout the 4 months storage except for cysteine, which was progressively d.grad.d.to cystine, conferring a yellow coloration to parenteral solutions. Parenteral nutrition stand.rd. solutions remain stable for 4 months at 2–8 °C,ensuring safe ad.inistration in preterm infants.

In biod.versity management, spatio-temporal heterogeneity is important to consid.r conserving high levels of habitat d.versity and.ecosystems. In this stud., we investigated.the relationship between land.cape spatio-temporal heterogeneity and.biod.versity in a mosaic-land.cape, located.in the Fontainebleau forest (France). The d.versity of successional stages along a grad.ent from heathland.to forest as well as the persistence of Calluna vulgaris (L.) Hull in d.fferent forest stand. was examined.in ord.r to find.how the numerous patches of European Heathland.habitat embed.ed.in this area should.be maintained. The results ind.cated.that in the areas of high spatio-temporal heterogeneity, a general increase is observed.in species richness, in particular for vascular plants, bryophytes and.carabid.. C. vulgaris persisted.in coniferous stand. and.young mixed.stand.but d.creased.und.r d.cid.ous trees and.old.mixed.stand.. The Ellenberg’s values for light, nutrients and.acid.ty, show the persistence of favorable enviromental cond.tions for heathland.vegetation und.r coniferous stand. and.young mixed.stand.. These results enable us to offer recommend.tions to better manage mosaic-land.cape biod.versity, and.in particular, the heathland.semi-natural habitats in the Fontainebleau forest and.elsewhere in Europe.

Anti-hepatitis B virus(HBV)therapy lead. to the emer- gence of mutant viral strains d.ring the treatment of chronic hepatitis B with nucleos(t)id.s analogues. The existence of HBV variants with primary antiviral resistance may be important for treatment choice. These mutations were rtV214A/rtN238T in one patient and.rtA194T in the ***,mutations in untreated.patients d.serve cautious *** d.ta ind.cate that mutations that can theoretically confer ad.fovir or tenofovir resistance may emerge in treatmentnaive patients.
